Rustic RV Ranch, Beaver, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Used this as an overnight on our way home. Not a destination, but after driving through New Mexico and the panhandle of Oklahoma, I needed a place to stay. Owners used some land next to their home to put in 14 spots for the influx of workers on wind farms. There is solid power (30 & 50a), good clean water and sewer hookups. Rusty, the owner is super nice, even offering their basement in case of severe weather. There is a 2 unit clean shower house, 2 each washer and dryer (free!) on property too. I will use this place again on trips through the panhandle, it's like a little Oasis! We camped at Rustic RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Hang out with Rusty the owner and ask him about the wind farms in the area. I learned a lot about this resource from him. Play with the dogs, and enjoy a western Oklahoma sunset, the best around!

Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice campground that has spacious sites compared to others in the area. Within a 20 minute drive to Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park and Custer. We camped in "ranch camp" area. Up on the hill and moderately wooded. Nice big bathroom/shower house with 3 each washers and BIG dryers, I don't remember price, but it was average for a campground. Lots of tall pine trees, some were difficult to get around while hitched.

Staff was ok, somewhat helpful, but not exactly what I would call friendly (I'm from the south so my standards are high). It would have been nice to have someone escort us to site because such a large campground with so many areas. Nice large pool, camp office/store was big and lots of supplies/souvenirs.

As others have said, WiFi was a little spotty, but, not extremely important to me. The pool was a bit of a hike from our site. Would be nice to have a trail from the ranch camp area to the sidewalk that leads to the pool and playground. I agree with others that the price might seem steep, but given the location, and elbow room, I believe it was well worth staying here. I will definitely stay again when we visit the Black Hills. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

All the attractions in the area are close! Must see Mt. Rushmore lighting ceremony. Only one small Grocery in Hill City, prices there are a bit steep. If you can make it to Custer, about 25 minutes, there are two big grocery stores there.

Famil-E-Fun Campground and RV Park, Mitchell, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Stopped by for an overnight. Didn't have reservations, but park was pretty empty so no issues getting a spot. Ownership is way nice, all sites have good amount of shade on them which is awesome in SD during the hot summers. Pool wasn't sparkling clean, I'm sure it's hard to keep clean with the dust and wind, but definitely clean enough to cool off in. No cable, doesn't bother me though. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Famil-E-Fun Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Clear Lake State Park, Clear Lake, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for an overnight. Gorgeous state park on the edge of the lake. Did not expect to find this in the middle of Iowa. The park is almost all pull throughs, Gravel/grass and electric only. Giant mature trees around the park. Short trail to the lake/swim beach. Water was nice and relatively shallow. We camped at Clear Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beaver's Bend Resort Park, Broken Bow, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely State Park in far south east Oklahoma. It is a little confusing getting around, so if you can get a map online before you go, it would help you get around. There are 4 RV campgrounds here, Buckhorn (reservable) Acorn, Cypress and Fern. Fern is on a different section of the river and the only area that you can get into the water. This is where we stayed. Campground was very far spaced apart, even for a state park. Tall trees kept the sun and heat at bay, the cool river was awesome to jump in after a hike. The previous inhabitants of our site left it kind of dumpy, but not horrible. The bath/shower house was clean, however, they are OLD. Water pressure was intermittent in the showers. Lots of hiking trails and wildlife, a herd of deer wandered throughout the campground the entire time we were here, coming as close as 5-10 feet sometimes! We camped at Beaver's Bend Resort Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a "float trip" company that for a reasonable fee, (2 person $24, single $14) you can float down this nice cold river on a hot Oklahoma day for a couple hours. As well, there is a trail that takes you on a short <1 mile hike up a step hill to the top of a bluff that overlooks this river. Very gorgeous and worth the climb (plus, you go downhill after!)

Natural Falls State Park, West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Gorgeous state park. We stayed in February, so there was no foliage on the trees, but still a beautiful park. It always amazes me to find beautiful places like this in Oklahoma, the waterfall area is cool, trails are less than 2 miles, and moderate difficulty. I will definitely come back. I've read about the grumpy old man, and he's here, but he is just a rule follower and comes off rough. We camped at Natural Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Kountry Air RV Park, Prattville, Alabama

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Stopped here for an overnight stay. A bit of a drive, only about 20 minutes from the interstate, but worth it to not be in a parking lot for the night. Owners were very polite and helpful. Owners helped get to the site and even helped me hook up. Lots of personal touch they have given it like gardens and such. Pool was clean and cool, nice for the kiddos to wear some energy out from the road trip. We even had a swing hanging from the tree In our site. Worth the time off the highway from Montgomery! We camped at Kountry Air RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Selma, AL was only 30 minutes west. Lots of civil rights history was made there. There are a lot of historical buildings there.

Tall Pines Campground, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

I love this park. It is close to Silver Dollar City, enough you can sometime hear the train whistle. Far enough from Branson that you can get away. Grocery store within 10 minutes. Park is very clean, pool is one of the best around, has some nice "tall pines" around it. Deep and cold, nice on a hot Ozark day. The staff here are amazing, will help out whenever they can. Our site was great and fairly level. I would definitely recommend anyone going to Branson area to stay here, we will be back! We camped at Tall Pines Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The Wilderness at Silver Dollar City, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park in Branson. We stayed here during spring break, so the Pool was not open and the trees had no leaves on them yet. Park was very clean, the roads and sites were well maintained. No problem with the cable, electric or sewer either. The sites were a little close together for my liking, not bad, we are just used to state parks. Close, but not too close to Silver Dollar City, and about 12 minutes to the center of Branson proper. Throughout the day you can hear people screaming on roller coasters and the train whistle in the distance, a really nice ambiance. Perhaps when all the trees leaf out the sound would be even more diminished. The Camp Store area was very nice and clean, Had all the necessities and some extra. Staff was very helpful, as all Silver Dollar City staff members are. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at The Wilderness at Silver Dollar City in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Silver Dollar City is a great family park to ride roller coasters and enjoy a theme park. Dixie Stampede is another great show/dinner we like to attend: go hungry though, you will get a lot to eat!
