Robidoux RV Park, Gering, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Spacious park with a friendly staff. The views are extraordinary. The grounds include a playground in a huge fenced area. If there are no children in the playground (which there weren't), dog owners are allowed to let the dogs off-leash. That was a treat for my dogs and me. Winds were extremely high, which made the wi-fi iffy. We camped at Robidoux RV Park in a Truck Camper.

Sleeping Bear RV Park & Campground, Lander, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

If you're tired and dusty from the road, this is a welcome place. The water features including pool and fountains are delightful. Bathrooms are individually set up with toilet, sink and shower. You can do your whole routine as if you were home. The view is spectacular. Staff is welcoming. The sites are extremely close to each other. Yet even though the campground was packed during my visit, it was quiet at night. We camped at Sleeping Bear RV Park & Campground in a Truck Camper.

Double Nickel Campground, Waco, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a delightful park. The owners live in the park and are working hard to refurbish it. They say it was badly run down before they bought it. So many charming touches: Adirondack chairs and porch swings that the owner and his father built, lovely views of golf course and pond, daily trash pickup at each campsite. Good-sized dog run. Easy access off I-80, but be be sure to turn south, not north toward Waco. It's spacious and gracious. Yes, freeway noise. But you can't have both convenience and quiet. We camped at Double Nickel Campground in a Truck Camper.

Belvidere East / Exit 170 KOA, Midland, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I'm frankly not a fan of KOA but this one is above and beyond. It's easy access from the freeway but far enough that you can hear the birds singing. And there are lots of birds because the park adjoins a pond and lovely marsh area. There's plenty of space between campsites and lots of green areas for dog walking. The owners are exceptionally friendly and attentive. I've stayed here twice. My only disappointment the second time was that they formerly provided Indian tacos in the little restaurant but have discontinued that. Now it's pizza. Homemade pizza, but still. We camped at Belvidere East / Exit 170 KOA in a Motorhome.

Spearfish City Campground, Spearfish, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful location next to a spacious city park and Spearfish Creek with lots of paved walking trails. The sites were adequate but very tightly packed. Wi-fi absolutely did not work. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

Billings KOA, Billings, Montana

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This is an excellent park for families with children. Lots of activities, pool, hot tub, bicycles with plenty of paved roads for riding, and the prime centerpiece--the miniature golf course. If you're looking for space and quiet, it's not the best choice. But it is convenient to the freeway for a quick overnight stay. We camped at Billings KOA in a Motorhome.

Butte KOA, Butte, Montana

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

This campground, a typical KOA layout, is located next to a paved trail through a wildlife preserve, adjacent to a creek. Although the freeway's on the other side, you can still hear the birds sing. Some visitors may appreciate the take-out restaurant, which specializes in fried chicken and fish and chips. We camped at Butte KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Butte has one of the best off-leash dog parks I've found in any city. The park also includes a fishing pond for youngsters. You can get directions at the visitor information center, next door to the KOA.

Wallace RV Park , Wallace, Idaho

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a fine place for an overnight stay if you're hoofing it across the country on I-90. Tight quarters. No amenities, e.g., picnic tables, fire rings. But there's a roaring mountain creek that drowns out freeway noise, a very fine restaurant with a varied menu that even vegans will enjoy, a lovely gravel road/trail that's great for dog walking along the creek. We camped at Wallace RV Park in a Motorhome.

Belvidere East / Exit 170 KOA, Midland, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

For a one-night stay, this park offers a wonderful combination of convenience with natural surroundings. It's hard to believe the interstate is only a half-mile away, because you are surrounded with ponds and waterfowl abound. Everything about this park is carefully designed and maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. Don't miss the Indian tacos in the little restaurant for dinner! We camped at Belvidere East / Exit 170 KOA in a Truck Camper.

Don't be fooled by the address. This is NOT in Midland, which is 15 miles off the Interstate. It's very close to the interstate but still feels rural.

River Town Campground, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

I was concerned that this park, which I reserved ahead of time, would be too far from Vicksburg, but it's not. Easy, quick drive to all the places you want to see. The park is large and open with level sites. Only the sites around the perimeter have shade. Restroom is old but clean and adequate. Laundry is fine. Wifi connection is good. We camped at River Town Campground in a Truck Camper.

Don't miss the "Tomato Place," which is on the highway between the campground and downtown Vicksburg. It looks like a produce stand, and is, but has a great little restaurant in back.

Kountry Air RV Park, Prattville, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

I was here for only one night but was charmed by the park and the owners. They went out of their way to make sure I got situated. The park is a gardener's delight with flower beds and other nice touches. Wi-fi was good and restrooms clean. Most of all, I simply liked the spirit of the place. We camped at Kountry Air RV Park in a Truck Camper.

South Oaks Manufactured RV & Mobile Home Park, Palmetto, Georgia

I stayed here only because all other parks were apparently full or weren't taking one-nighters. No amenities. No upkeep. I paid $35 just so I could have electricity and water. Next time I'd do without. We camped at South Oaks Manufactured RV & Mobile Home Park in a Truck Camper.

Deep Valley RV Park, Allons, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This out-of-the-way park has a rustic charm and lots of trees. Campsites are close, but the park is small enough that you don't feel like you're in a crowd. Best part of the park was the host, who was more than amenable. He and others made sure my rig was level and situated to my liking. I'm a woman traveling alone, and the host checked in on me in a way that made me feel comfortable and secure. The surrounding area is beautiful, and I wish I could have stayed longer. Good wi-fi, too. We camped at Deep Valley RV Park in a Truck Camper.

Duck Creek RV Park, Paducah, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This park is convenient, which means it's close to freeway/highway and consequently you get a lot of noise. Spaces are tight but level. Restrooms are excellent. Wi-fi is good. Best of all, the park has a nice off-leash, fenced area for dogs with a pleasant place for dog owners to sit. We camped at Duck Creek RV Park in a Truck Camper.
