Myrtle Beach State Park, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park. Short walk to beach. All sites are back in and some sites are very tight. Roads are narrow but passable. While we were there significant rain caused some sites to have standing water, which stayed for more than 1 day. If you leave, you may have a line to get back in. Seems they could find a better way for returning campers to get in, other than waiting in line for other users to pay and/or check in. The waits can be significant. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground, Raleigh, North Carolina

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

No reservations. A little difficult to find the right gate. Once we found the entrance, access was easy. Called security to check in, which was quick and easy. I didn't see any shower or other facilities dedicated to campground. Site utilities were well placed and adequate. Nice campground if you have activities in Raleigh area, or are there for fairground functions. We camped at North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground in a Travel Trailer.

First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Very busy park. Bathhouses could use some updates. Easy walk to large sandy beaches. Roads are tight but passable. Is next to military base, so you may get some aircraft noise. Shuttle bus to Virginia Beach is available. Lots of trails through cypress swamps. My site was only large enough for the RV. No room for a tent or canopy. We camped at First Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

Chippokes Plantation State Park, Surry, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Great park. Lots to do with swimming pool, museum, trails, and river within walking distance. Had a little power issue at our site but staff was very responsive and it was resolved quickly. Check in had to be taken care of at the visitor center instead of the entrance kiosk. We camped at Chippokes Plantation State Park in a Motorhome.

Holliday Lake State Park, Appomattox, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Another of Virginia's terrific state parks. Roomy and quiet. Lots of trails and lake activity including swimming, fishing, canoeing. Only downside to this park is getting there. GPS want's to route you down a dusty gravel road. There is another route, but it is a bit narrow without much shoulder. We camped at Holliday Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Fairy Stone State Park, Stuart, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park. Lots of shade. Sites are very small. Some tent pads are only a few feet from the next. The sites without tent pads (Green card) are some of the smallest. Several sites are not suitable for motorhomes of any size. The water and electric service was good. Our Verizon service was adequate to stream some movies. The sites need some updates. In particular: broken pavement, stumps, roots.

The camp host was very helpful and attentive. Firewood was not available in the campground and must be brought from the park office. The bathhouse has been recently rebuilt and is nice and clean. It did run out of hot water sometimes.

Terrific beach on the lake and good fishing areas. Very pet friendly. Several nice hiking trails. I would go back if I could be sure to get a site suitable for motorhome. We camped at Fairy Stone State Park in a Motorhome.
