Apple Island Resort, South Hero, Vermont

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for 11 nights on a Lakeview Water/Electric Only site. The site was large and plenty of room for my three children to move and explore. Site was a pull-through and large fire ring was provided. We only had water and electric, but dump site was close enough that it was not an issue. We enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle of the main campground area. Pool was extremely clean. Laundry area was clean and was reasonably priced. This resort is located on Lake Champlain, close to the Bike trail/Bike Ferry, close to the farmers market, and easy access to get to Burlington. My husband and daughter played 18 holes of golf at their on-site golf course. Well-maintained course. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming to our fulltime family of 5. We camped at Apple Island Resort in a Motorhome.

Searsport Shores Oceanfront Campground, Searsport, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

Positives: Family friendly. Beautiful location with private "beach". In-house free craft classes. Private garden. Spacious and eco-friendly playground for children. Lobsterbake was AMAZING! Rec Room for adults and children to gather. Friendly and caring staff. Nature walks and hiking trails.

Negatives: Price, but was worth it!

Overall: Cannot wait to go back. We are traveling the country with our children and this has been our favorite campground. The owners truly care that you have a fabulous experience. Many of the campers have been coming for years. Excellent location on the Bay, but close to Belfast for restaurants/grocery shopping. About one hour from Acadia National Park! We camped at Searsport Shores Oceanfront Campground in a Motorhome.

Seaport RV Resort, Old Mystic, Connecticut

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Positives:
Easy access for Big Rigs (we have a 45ft + toad)
Very clean showers and bathroom: Having no sewer hook-ups, I took our three children to the shower house daily.
Lots to do for children: Heated pool, playground, mini-golf, and laser tag
Super easy drive to Mystic Seaport
Laundry facility clean and reasonably priced

Negatives:
No sewer
Pump-out every three nights stayed, but no pump outs on Sunday. We were leaving early Monday and came in on Thursday so we did not get a pump-out.
No middle walkway to shower houses so you have to walk all the way around each row to get to the showers. Easy if its just you, but a pain when you are taking a 1 and 3 year old to the showers.

Overall: We would stay here again if planning on going to Mystic. Several seasonal rigs on site that were extremely well-cared for and maintained. Everyone was very friendly. We camped at Seaport RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Lums Pond State Park, Bear, Delaware

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

First, lets discuss the positive aspects of Lums Pond.

* Camp Hosts are wonderful.
* Plenty of room between sites, especially if you back up to the center grass common area. We were in site 30.
* Nice, new fire pits with built in movable cooking grates.
* Roads are freshly paved.
* New bathrooms were still under construction, but the old bathrooms were clean.
* New picnic table that are 8 feet long.

Now the negatives:
* $35 for a State Park mid-week. No wonder only 1/4 of the park was filled. We fulltime and stayed here to be close to family. For the price, there are NO amenities other that basic water/electric/sewer.
* It is an 8 foot wide concrete pad with the posts right next to the pad so it can severely limit slide access for your rig. We jacked up our rig with our air bags so we could pull out our front left slide. Just poorly constructed. I understand they want to protect their new electrical boxes, but just not well thought out.
* Excluding Camp Hosts, the other park employees were not knowledgeable about the sites available/accessibility. We stayed one extra night and the boy booked me in a site I would not fit in. Thankfully, spoke with the Camp Host the next morning and she got it all straightened out.
* No place to park your car in your site. "Overflow" parking is available near the front gate which is great... if your site is near the front of the park.
* MUD! Everywhere if it rains! They seeded, but they did not put any straw down so when it rains it turns into a mud pit. Straw would protect the new grass as well as prevent the sites from turning into muddy puddles. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

River Plantation RV Park, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Large RV Resort with well-spaced lots, large pool, small playground, arcade, and RV Wash. Several permanent units that are in excellent, well-maintained shape. Residents were very friendly to my children. Very safe and quiet. There is a nice fire ring by the main building with rocking chairs as well as a fire ring at every site. Speed limit of 7 is enforced so I felt comfortable allowing my 9-year old to safely ride her bike. We had an end-cap pull-through site which was wonderful. Slightly noisy with the RV's coming and going at all hours, but well worth it. We camped at River Plantation RV Park in a Motorhome.

Creekside RV Park, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Small park, but offers quite a bit! Excellent location. Located on the South area of the Parkway. Two trolley stops in Park which was great. Our site was located right next to restrooms. Sites are not overly spacious and our 45ft RV was at max in our back in. Nice shade around our site. Quiet, clean park, and excellent customer service. Pool was simple, but extremely clean. Super close to a nice City Park for children. Down the street is the Alpine Coaster which was a lot of fun. Trolley ride from Creekside to main Trolley Station takes approximately 20 minutes, but it is a nice ride. Kroger is located down the street and has great Diesel pricing.

Camping World RV Sales of Chattanooga, Chattanooga, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Don't get all the negative reviews of this place. It's 1 mile off I-75 on the Tenn / GA line outside Chattanooga. We got what we expected, a simple campground to spend one night, which has full hook-ups. The roads inside were easy to move our 45-footer around, but a few of the spaces tight. But not a problem. Good power, water pressure, and easy reachable sewer. We arrived after Camping World had closed, so we had no reservation. The wife ran around the park in the toad, found a spot and radioed me to come in. Didn't even have the engine shut-down yet and the camp host was there to greet us. Yes, she's a little rough around the edges, but she runs a tight ship and treated us great with clear instructions. She even called the next day to ask how our stay was. A fair amount of permanent units in the park, but no problems, and things well-kept up. We'll definitely stay here again for a stop-over in the area. We camped at Camping World RV Sales of Chattanooga in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Camp Host recommended an Italian Restaurant up the street. We typically don't take recommendations from hosts or concierges, but took a chance, and it was really good. $7.95 for a pitcher of beer with the most expensive thing on the menu $13.50.

Use the big Camping World lot to unhook / hook-up toad.

Goshen Springs Campground, Brandon, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Nothing fancy and 3 miles off the Natchez Trace. We would consider it Big Rig friendly as we were able to easily move our 45-footer through the campground easily. They do not take reservations and arriving at 6pm we only found about 3 spots remaining. We rode around in the toad to find one with full hook-ups and 50-amp. A lot of permanent units in the park, but for a Friday night it was very quiet. Most of the far-side has permanent units and concrete pads, and if empty had the meters removed thus no electric. Saw the Reservoir Patrol coming around many times. Mosquito spray truck came around morning and evening and we never had bug problems. Our sewer pipe riser was broke off, but were still able to connect. Make sure you have enough sewer hose, our 20-footer was stretched to the max to connect. Yet the water was so close it blocked one of our bay doors. Pad was gravel. Run by nice people. Our rate was $24, I only had a 20 and a 5. The lady called the next morning reminding me to come by and pick up my $1 change. We camped at Goshen Springs Campground in a Motorhome.

Cajun Palms RV Resort, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

If you are coming into Cajun Palms with children, this place is definitely awesome and they'll love it. We've been to Disney resorts that aren't as outfitted with kid's activities as this place is. The spaces are concrete, wide, and level. Water pressure good and clean power. We had a back-in on the west side and no problem putting our 45-footer and tow car in the spot. We were here during the week (it was empty) and heard the place can get a little crazy on the weekend. We departed on a Friday and the rigs were already rolling in pretty heavily. The pool area is open all week, but the kids area and bars (Thursday afternoon to Sunday evening) are not. But we found out, you just have to ask and they'll turn on the kids pool area for you. Very nice people running that place that it seemed couldn't do enough for us. The swim-up bar is really cool and drink prices decent. It's pretty clear that whomever owns the place doesn't skimp on amenities, landscaping, etc., and knows how to run an RV resort. There are some permanent units, but they are all clean, well-kept late model units that you can barely tell. No junk. Only downside was our picnic table: was falling apart. Many were like this as they seem to be all-wood low quality pressure treated lumber. We camped at Cajun Palms RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Pontchartrain Landing, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for 7 nights and it was great! Located along the Industrial Canal up towards the Lake around marinas and yacht builders. After seeing the location and tightness of the other local resort we were glad we chose Pontchartrain Landing. Not only is it run by nice people that know how to run a campground, it's kept up quite well. We had good power, water pressure, and plenty of cable TV options. The store, pool, and restaurant onsite are all very nice. We did get hit with $99/weekend night because of Jazzfest which was understandable. A few permanent units in the park, but all very well kept up with no problems. Great security that rides around most of the night watching the place and we felt very safe. They have a shuttle that goes down to the French Quarter at $6/pp r/t, but we didn't use it. Plenty of parking to be found down there during the week. 10-15 minutes to the Quarter. Just wish they paved this place because they grade it almost every other day, when dry it's a dust-bowl, when wet you have that sand/gravel everywhere. Be forewarned: like most of New Orleans, the streets getting to this place are a disaster. You'll want to go very slow down France Rd. Outside of France Rd. down towards I-10 there are areas that look like a war zone, but we never had problems or felt unsafe. We camped at Pontchartrain Landing in a Motorhome.

Sun-N-Fun RV Resort, Sarasota, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

The park itself was very well maintained and clean. Bathrooms and showers were spotless. Pads were close enough that our first day we could not put our awning out fully because the coach next to ours had their awning out. Our three children loved the pool (water slide, obstacle course, splash pad) and we loved the bar/restaurant. Park was quiet at night. We felt comfortable leaving our double stroller outside as well as our daughter's unlocked bike. Neighbors were friendly. Safe for our 9-year old to bike around the Queen's area. There are tons of activities, but we did not partake in them. Problems we found is they allow pool passes to locals. Some left their trash right next to splash pool (they were eating in the pool) as well as there was a fight at the bar. Several birthday parties were being hosted this past weekend. Would I stay there again, absolutely, however we would limit our pool time to weekdays and late in the day on weekends. We camped at Sun-N-Fun RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Target and Lowe's right down the road. Farmer's Market in Downtown Sarasota every Saturday morning. Siesta Key is approximately 25 minutes away and worth the drive for sunset or Sunday Night Drum Circle. JR's Old Packinghouse is a "dive" restaurant with live entertainment and good food. University Town Center Mall is 10 minutes away and has plenty of shops.
