Sill's Family Campground, Adamstown, Pennsylvania
Date of Stay:
June, 2016 -
$65.00
Overall Rating:
We stayed here spring 2016. As we pulled in and as we got close the office, you could smell sewer. The smell was really bad all weekend. But that was not the only problem. The price was higher then we wanted. Higher rate for family. 51 base rate but extra for older kids. But I realize that adding for adult kids is normal.
Internet was spotty. Kept kicking us off. The RVs/trailers are packed in like sardines. You have campers very close on 3 sides of you. No privacy at all. We really didn't have any grass. We didn't even have a fire ring, not that we had the space to use it. I don't think you could park a car between the campers--they were too close. We couldn't use our awning.
Also, there is many permanent sites. It seemed as if 75 to 85% (could be much higher)are permanent. Just looked and felt like a trailer court. Doesn't feel like you are camping. The bathrooms were not clean and smelled of mold. There was green algae growing on things--not all things but the propane tank and shed were the worst. The office looked OK. And the people seemed nice.
There was a few 'cabins' that from the outside looked good.
We didn't check out the pool. The campground roads were confusing a bit. We will not go back because of the smell, no privacy, high prices and lack of good atmosphere. We
camped at Sill's Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Shawnee State Park, Schellsburg, Pennsylvania

$30.00
Overall Rating:
Our site was close the play area which made it nice. We were just up for the play area that helped keep the foot traffic through the site low. The lot was large with gravel drive area. That section has some larger gravel pads. Other sites are not as large in other areas. I think the the price is a little higher for these sites with large gravel pad. But worth it. There is enough space to put up a tent (even a couple!) The gravel lot was long so it easily fit our camper and tow vehicle. and you could walk around the vehicle with space around it. Lots of trees but with some sun coming through, not full tree cover. But varies in areas. Easier to drive to 'day use area' then to walk. Nice trails in day use area. Has some Geocaches on the park grounds. We have stayed in this campground in the same area often. Nice place. Bathrooms are good for state parks. Cleaned daily. Mostly concrete floors and such but expected. Showers were good and warm(hot). Only problem was you couldn't control the temp of the water. Can't get a cool shower if you wanted. We camped at Shawnee State Park in a Travel Trailer.
