Lufkin KOA, Lufkin, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Arrived after hours, Had to use our GPS due to the road construction, but came right to the park. Easy check in was cash in envelope box. Easily found our site; very level concrete, long pull thru with full hook ups. Some shade in afternoon from huge pecan tree next to office and our awning. Morning was very bright, hot sun, but we only camped for one night. Sites were widely spaced, so plenty of room to plant some fast growing pine trees. Grass needed to be mowed between the sites. Adjacent to highway, but didn't hear much noise. We camped at Lufkin KOA in a Motorhome.

Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground, Yuma, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This was our third time camping at Parkers Crossroads, and I'm sure that we will stay again. The owners have the right ideas about running an RV park down to the very helpful check-in packet with much community information. Friendly staff who are glad to see each and every camper. Check in was quick, we were escorted to our site, and made to feel welcome even though they were busy as the park was filling up for the night. Our site was very level gravel with full hookups, cable and Wi-Fi, and the nicest deck which solved the hillside slope problem perfectly. Having just stayed at a park where we felt like we might roll down the hill, this was a welcome change. Our site was shady in the evening with tall trees west of our site, but quite sunny and warm the next morning. The lack of shade is the only reason I can't give a perfect 10. Otherwise it is a great place to stay. We camped at Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Riverside Campground, Abingdon, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived late in the day at the beginning of a weekend. The road in was narrow and right next to the river. A little scary for the passenger when meeting an outgoing car. Fortunately the road was not busy that time of day. Campground was almost full; think we got the last site because someone's reservation was not honored. Since we arrived after hours had to find someone to check in. We were in a pull-thru spot; so did not have to unhook our tow. Lots of weekend campers and sites were very close together. We camped at Riverside Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Good for an overnight stop. Campground had lots of activities for families, with a pool, playground, volleyball court, and stage where Karaoke was going on. Right next to river, so fishing was possible.

Holliday Lake State Park, Appomattox, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great location to camp for visiting Appomattox National Park Civil War sites. Couldn't reach park by phone, so just took a chance that sites were available. Registration after hours was on the honor system. Park was located about 6 miles from Hwy. 24 main road and 13 miles from the National Park, though it seemed much longer while traveling through the national forest to reach the campground. Very quiet, relaxing and secluded with only one other camper in sight. Site was fairly level with table and fire ring. Firewood was most reasonable price we've seen (also on honor system), but weather was way too warm for a campfire or to enjoy the outdoors. Restrooms and showers were convenient and looked clean though we did not use them. No cell service in the park, except on a hill close to the office if you are lucky. No cable, and too many surrounding trees to get satellite. Swimming in the lake was available and seemed to be a popular place. Would camp here again if in the area. It would be beautiful in the Spring with the Red Buds blooming. We camped at Holliday Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

General Burnside Island State Park, Burnside, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

The site required levelers for the RV, but it was impossible to set the picnic table Level on a hill. Nice shade tree, but unable to use our satellite. Limited local channels. Electric hookup was inadequate. We were allowed to select our site from a map of available sites, after asking for a 30 amp, and water. Had we known that the electric hookup for our site was shared with the adjacent site and only had one 20, one 30, and one 50 amp plug, and the 30 amp was already in use, we would have gone elsewhere. The electric and water were also on the opposite side of our RV hookup. Had to use a heavy duty long cord and hook up to the 20 amp. Discovered later while walking that the electric sharing sites were only in one part of the park. There were empty sites that were not made available to us. We camped at General Burnside Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We will NOT be back to camp at a Kentucky State Park. The weird electrical hookups and strange layout of the parks has been a frustration in other Kentucky State parks, not just here. Last year we camped at Kenlake, and though the park was almost empty, we had to search to find a site with electric close enough to use.

Hungry Mother State Park, Marion, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived late afternoon after finding Hungry Mother on internet. Just stayed for one night due to being enroute to destination. Would have enjoyed a longer stay. This is a beautiful park on a lake nestled among the mountains. Though we didn't go, there is a beach, and a restaurant. Tried to go to the restaurant for breakfast, but it was closed on Wednesday morning. I understand there is a nice Sunday brunch. There are two camping sections, the Hungry Mother original park and Camp Burson, which was added to the park. Not being familiar with the park, we chose the HM park area. The road into this campground was narrow, winding, and had drop offs. Fortunately, we didn't meet anyone on a curve in the RV. Next time, we will choose Camp Burson. Our site was a backin next to a beautiful stream. Enjoyed watching a family of ducks on the stream. Could not get satellite due to heavy shade from trees though there were two empty pull thrus that would have worked. Our AT&T cell service would not pick up a signal either. Would like to return sometime for a longer stay. We camped at Hungry Mother State Park in a Motorhome.

Big South Fork National River & Rec Area, Bandy Creek Campground (NPS), Oneida, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Bandy Creek is a beautiful, extremely well maintained park with numerous RV sites, most were shady. Nice clean rest rooms and showers are situated in all three RV camping areas. W&E were conveniently located at each site. Large gravel picnic area with fire ring, table and lantern hook. Parking pads were fairly level. After 5 registration was easy; pick a site and honor system envelopes. We camped at Big South Fork National River & Rec Area, Bandy Creek Campground (NPS) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We will definitely come back again if in the area. It was very quiet and peaceful. Only heard the birds singing, even a Parauque night hawk. Would love to spend several days here and hike some of the trails.

Do not depend on GPS to lead you right! We drove in from the West from Jamestown. The GPS directed us to take the north Bandy Loop which turned out to be gravel and no place to turn around. ArrIving from that direction, there were no signs, so we missed our turn. Should have arrived from the other direction.

DeGray Lake Resort State Park, Bismarck, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park on DeGray Lake, only 6 miles off the interstate. Very friendly park personnel including the lady vacuuming the lobby at the lodge/restaurant where we had a good buffet breakfast. WIFI at the lodge was free and very fast. AT&T cell service was good. We camped in #62, a very level shady site with a water view. Only negative was a couple of big bumps in the road leading into our camping area. Only stayed one night on a longer extended trip. Will definitely camp here again. We camped at DeGray Lake Resort State Park in a Motorhome.

RV Haven Park, College Station, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night while attending an event at Texas A&M. The location close to the university was perfect, easy to find and easy to get in and out. Though not officially open yet with all amenities installed, we were invited to stay at a reduced rate. Personnel were very friendly and helpful. This is a new park with asphalt roads and crushed asphalt level pads with water, electric, and sewer provided. We had our choice of sites and loved the tree and covered gazebo patio with a fire pit adjacent to our site. Located away from the busy highway, we enjoyed a very quiet night. Will definitely stay here again when in the area! We camped at RV Haven Park in a Motorhome.

Lake Wood Recreation Area, Gonzales, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed three nights in early April with friends camping adjacent. Park was not full for a weekend, so was very quiet. This is a very nice park in the Guadalupe River bottom shaded with beautiful enormous Pecan trees. Access to the Guadalupe River for fishing. The Lake was drained for repairs to the dam to be completed later this year, but we were not planning to use the lake. Lots of birds in the trees. Very well maintained grassy areas. One spot on the loop road through the park was too narrow for our small RV, but no problem getting out the other direction. A small camp store with basic supplies and friendly staff during check-in. We camped at Lake Wood Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
