San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA, Petaluma, California

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $78.00
Overall Rating:

They put us in spot 111. Must be for overnighters. Half the park was empty and they squeeze us into the smallest spot possible? Really! Not impressed. Goats at the petting zoo were the only perk here. We won't be back at $78 a night. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, Santee, California

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is our go to park in the San Diego area, when they can fit us in. Weekends are always a problem but during the week it is quiet and lovely. Weekends can be quite loud with lots of children and bicycles. You need to book way ahead if you know you are going to be there over a weekend. Beautiful sites on the lake as well as treed areas. Our 37' size limits us in some places but we have spent time in all the loops. The center loop backing up on the recycled water stream on the West side is our favorite as well as backing right up to the lake in the Lakeshore loop. The staff seems to to constantly go out of their way to help, they have been marvelous finding us spots when there didn't seem to be any. Call if there is nothing available on line. They are sweethearts! You can also have mail and small packages sent to the office. Power and water are fine as well. Great birding and bird photography around the lakes if you are an enthusiast, especially Fall winter, but this Spring we saw ducklings:) awesome:) Great trails to walk on as well. We camped at Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve in a Fifth Wheel.

The Californian RV Resort, Acton, California

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Concrete terraced parking lot. Over nighters and short term are sandwiched in, not enough room for our 37' trailer and dually, we are sticking out into the road. Monthly spots look like they have more room, difficult to get around your trailer once your slides are out. Worst problem is spiking 133 volt electricity-I've lost this review once already when the power went out. Our coach shuts down to protect itself. We had no power from 11pm to 7:30 this morning, this is expensive dry camping. Office said it was normal..NOT...my brother and father are electricians. The office said they need to keep it high for when all the AC's kick in...it's not AC weather yet. Some poor fools are damaging their appliances, stove and microwaves, as well as water heaters if their coach does not have high voltage protection, many do not. Our DRV has this protection. They didn't seem to care at the office, said it was within normal limits...sigh... We camped at The Californian RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Villa Maria Isabel RV Park, Mulege, Baja California Sur

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Wifi not available at the sites and I was told by another camper it was not working. Laundry room has been flooded out so no laundry. Good power and water. Sites can be tight, watch the wires coming in, if you are tall do not go around the circle, we popped our roof vent cap off on the low hung wires, luckily no damage. Stay to the right. Nice walk down to the river, lot's of storm damage here in the last few years and it has been slow coming back but a beautiful area. Great birding here in the RV park as well as walking out to the rivers mouth. We camped at Villa Maria Isabel RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Ojo de Liebre Campground, Guerrero Negro, Baja California Sur

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

Where can you camp at night and hear the whales spouting all night? Here! This is an amazing campground open during the whale viewing season from Nov. until mid April. This is dry camping. There are no facilities so stock up on water and provisions in Guerrero Negro before coming. It has a wonderful onsite restaurant, very reasonable and fresh as well as very clean showers and toilets near the base area where the restaurant and whale watching tours leave from. There are palapas you can rent or if you continue further on down the road to the West where there are multiple pull through and back in sites. The furthest West sites sit overlooking the bay. There are outhouses spaced between the sites as well. It is quiet, dark and simply an amazing experience. Whale tours go out on small boats at various times of the day. A worthwhile venture to get close to these amazing Gray whales. The drive in is partly paved and then a very well graded dirt road that is well signed. You drive through an area of salt flats to get there. Big rig accessible. We camped at Ojo de Liebre Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Malarrimo RV Park, Guerrero Negro, Baja California Sur

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $20.00

Only place with water, electric and sewer in Guerrero Negro but noisy. Dogs barking all night. Tight spaces, for rigs with slides you really need two. OK if it is not busy, it was quiet when we went. We camped at Malarrimo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rancho Santa Ynez RV Park, Catavina, Baja California

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $4.00
Overall Rating:

Cost is per person. This is THE spot to camp in Cataviña. Dry camping in a large hard packed dirt field with trees for shade, or a view of the Mexican Blue Palms in the arroyo (dry stream) far enough in from the Highway 1 as not to be bothered by noise. Beautiful spot to stay and explore the small cave paintings to the North as well as the amazing boulder fields. There is no cell service here FYI you can get wifi at the Mision Hotel in town for 25 pesos an hour. Small local restaurant here at the ranch, also rooms to rent. Good simple ranch cooking, slightly gringoized by the passing traffic but good and reasonable. Highway Patrol come in at night to check. We camped at Rancho Santa Ynez RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

El Pabellon Trailer Park RV, San Quintin, Baja California

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is an astounding place to stay right on the beach. You can see the sunset out your back window and walk on an empty beach for miles. Water (yes, salty as is almost all the coastal water here) Electric (yes, 15amp only, pretty normal for Baja) and yes there is sewer as well as spotless bathrooms and showers. Hosts are incredibly helpful and nice and don't ask for a discount please! Gimme a break, cheap Americans stay home! We camped at El Pabellon Trailer Park RV in a Fifth Wheel.

Glenn Cunningham Lake Campground, Omaha, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful spot but they need a campground host with a rake and a garbage bag. Spots had garbage floating about and the fire rings were clogged. Our site was littered with cigarette butts. Too bad as the view is nice and most spots are shaded, just no one there to keep an eye on things. NO water while we were here as well, (had tested positive for coli). Only pota potties. We camped at Glenn Cunningham Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park with electric, no water but you can fill on your way in. Many spots back up onto the lakes. Lovely treed sites as well. It seems that perhaps they have cut back on staff. The sites looked like they could use a good cleaning and raking. Fire pits were full of garbage. We camped at Fort Kearny State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful view from the Lake view Loop. Could be a bit exposed if windy or bad weather. Lovely clean sites, well maintained. Be aware you need to pay an additional $7.00 a day park fee on top of your camping fee. But it does give you access to Rifle Falls Park as well as Rifle Gap park when you go exploring. Dead Horse Point State Park, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to camp near one of the most beautiful areas in Utah. Yes there is electric, but no water, fill up before you arrive. Sites are nicely spaced, you don't feel crowded and the wild is at your back door. We had Kitt Foxes and hummingbirds, squirrels and jays. Great hiking trails and Visitor center. All in all a remarkable place to visit. Very dark skies for the astronomy crowd and photographers. Most sites have lovely shaded buildings around the picnic tables.
