Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

The RV sites themselves are not very appealing, but you are here to see Yellowstone aren't you? I had to park our truck across the front of our site, but this was not inconvenient. It was a bit tough backing In due to adjacent trees. Fortunately, the parallel loops in the cg are each separated by wide stands of tall trees which greatly improve the overall feel of the cg. There were also plenty of staff on hand and I felt the cg was well run. The laundry room was satisfactory, but busy at times. The nearby Fishing Bridge General store had a basic inventory of fresh food, snacks and drinks, lots of gifts and clothing, and a diner. One way traffic to/from Fishing Bridge CG due to major road and building construction was a pain, but I'm sure it will be worth it when they are done. I would stay here again to visit Yellowstone partly because other RV camping options are are too far away. We camped at Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Go see Yellowstone!! Have dinner at the Lake Hotel dining room, but make reservations well before your stay. The bison filet, and the elk chops, were great by the way. I found the free app, "NPS Yellowstone National Park", to be very handy for advance planning, and used it often during our 9 day stay.

Colter Bay Village RV Park -- Full Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) , Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $71.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is terrific. There are a lot of trees, many hiking trails, and plenty of eating and shopping opportunities. (My dog gives it a 10 for interesting places to walk, quality of the smells, etc.). The dirt campsight was a bit unlevel side to side & front to back. Our large camping mat helped keep the dirt outside. I only unhooked to go sightseeing, NOT because of any site limitations. We only had 4 days here due to time restraints, but we want to come back for a longer stay next year. We camped at Colter Bay Village RV Park -- Full Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

We had dinner at Jackson Lodge (Mural Room), about 12 min drive from the campground. The food was excellent, and the environment and service were top notch. Make reservations ahead of your visit. Rent a kayak at the Colter Bay Marina. There are plenty of things to see and do on the Grand Teton NPS website: https://www.nps.gov/grte/index.htm I also recommend getting the free app, "NPS Grand Teton National Park" as it is very useful in planning your trip to this area.

Buffalo Run RV Park & Cabins, Island Park, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here one night on our way to Yellowstone. Check-in was easy and they let us pick any free site. Site 17 was recommended for its 3 trees and good shade. The RV campsites are down a small hill, away from the cabins and longterm residents on the upper/entry side. Its a small but pleasant campground and I would stay here again. Heyburn Riverside RV Park, Heyburn, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We were here for one night on our way to Yellowstone. The camp host came up to our truck as soon as we arrived. He checked us in (cash or check only), told us the few rules and suggested a few things we could do for fun. Our site was level and clean. The tree on our site gave some afternoon shade. The park seemed very well maintained and quiet. Although this is a no-frills park, I would definitely stay here again if I were passing through. Boise / Meridian KOA, Meridian, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here 4 nights visiting friends in Meridian. Our check-in went smoothly and I found that they had added two days to our original 2 day reservation as I requested, if someone else cancelled. It was a very busy, packed-full campground while we were there. It is a large park, and had more full-timers than I've ever seen at a KOA. Never the less, the ones I met were friendly and the sites were neat and quiet. The park wifi was too slow for me, but my Verizon MiFi signal was the fastest I've ever clocked. Our 8 pound dog visited 2 of their their really-small dog 'runs' but didn't like them. I found the grass around the office parking lot, and on the outside street, to be more to her liking. Parking for our tow vehicle (in front of, or next to our trailer) was sufficient but snug. Trees at most sites offer some shade for several hours a day. The park seemed well maintained and there were plenty of staff to be seen. We camped at Boise / Meridian KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Restaurants we loved in Meridian: Had a great Filet Mignon at Kahootz Steak and Ale House - a very informal, small bar & restaurant. Ginos Italian restaurant was excellent, and a pleasant setting. Big Daddys BBQ food was terrific - try the tasty "50-50" sandwich for lunch or dinner, or their generous pancakes for brunch. Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzaria served 6 of us (2 x 18 inch New York style pizzas) - excellent!

Burns RV Park, Burns, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

I received a warm and friendly check-in. They do offer Good Sam discounts. I chose to disconnect from my trailer, but did not really have to. There was room for my 30' trailer and truck. The campground has plenty of trees, but my site was shaded only in the afternoon. This site is about 100 yards from the road but I didn't notice any noise during the day with the AC running, or even at night when the AC was off. A few other sites are much closer to the road. My sewer connection included a recessed, threaded connection below ground level, but it was a bit too small for my threaded 'elbow' sewer connector. I was able to use a rock to secure my connector into the above ground part of sewer pipe. This worked fine. No issues with power. This site only has 30A. I stayed here for 2 nights and would stay here again if I come through this area. We camped at Burns RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sully's RV Park, Alturas, California

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a cozy little spot that I stayed at for one night on my way to Idaho. Check in was easy and the manager was friendly. They give you a key for bathroom entry, but I didn't use their bathroom or shower. They have 5 or so pull-through sites next to the entry that are apparently set aside for overnighters. The remaining sites all seemed to be long term users. Long term campers were quiet. The overnighter pull-through sites were well maintained. I didn't use their WiFi but my Verizon worked well there. There were plenty of trees around. The campground is on the edge of town with open countryside views. I would stay here if I come through Alturas again. We camped at Sully's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Almond Tree RV Park, Chico, California

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Easy and friendly checkin. Site was level. All services worked as expected. The pool looked, nice but I didnt use it. I didn't use their WiFi....my Verizon signal was 2 out of 4 bars, usable. Lots of plush grassy areas which my dog loved. There is a shade tree on one side or the other at most of the pull-through sites, and the back-in sites have tall trees and shrubs behind them. Interior roads are asphalt. I did not have to unhitch my trailer, but chose to do so. I am here for two days and I would stay here again if in the area. Pomo RV Park & Campground, Fort Bragg, California

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

We had reserved late and only had one "group area" site available. At check-in, the lady went out of her way to call people who hadn't arrived yet to see if they were still coming. As a result, we got to move to a nice, private site. We didn't use their wifi. Verizon signal was weak and spotty. They sell wood for campfires, and provide a pile of kindling for free pickings. Cable TV was excellent with lots of channels and a clear connection. $49/night is rate for 30amp. Add $5 for 50 amp. 10% discount for a week. Roads are asphalt and in great shape. There is an expansive grass area for sports, etc. Many of the sites are private with tall bushes separating the sites. Others are in a more open area suitable for groups. There are lots of trees. Our site, and many others I looked at, was level and without potholes. We camped at Pomo RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tahoe Valley Campground, South Lake Tahoe, California

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

$54/nite reflects their weekly rate. We stayed 10 nights starting late April. On arrival, staff were very nice and helpful. Our site had panoramic views of the pine trees from our rear bedroom. Several loops were still closed and only a small number of RVs were here at this time of year. Although there are no privacy shrubs, etc., we still felt the separation from our neighbors was good. The asphalt cg roads had a few potholes but we had no problem maneuvering our 32ft travel trailer. There were plenty of staff raking and leveling sites throughout our stay. Snow was still on the ground in places, and we experienced a wonderful snowfall one afternoon and evening. Our site was still a bit muddy at one end from but dried out in a few days. I had no problem leveling our trailer with a few leveling blocks. This early in the season, the cg only had 30amp sites available - 50amp loops were still closed. Verizon signal was weak/slow but usable. The cg is a short drive to Lake Tahoe, stores, restaurants and etc. We will definitely camp here again in the future, and probably during this same season. We liked the emptiness, quiet and cool weather this time of year. If you want to use the pool, tennis court, volleyball court, etc. or need 50A service, you'll want to come later in the year. We camped at Tahoe Valley Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The beachfront Beacon Bar and Grill has good food and a sports bar. The upscale Riva Grill on the Lake has excellent food and good lake views. Drive 20 minutes Inspiration Point for a beautiful overlook of Emerald Bay. Glen Alpine Falls is nearby - a wonderful sight late winter through May, and a short walk from the road. Raleys Market and CVS drugstore are 2 minutes away by car, and Raleys has inexpensive diesel fuel to boot.

Gilroy Garlic USA RV Park, Gilroy, California

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

On arrival, the staff were quite friendly and there seemed to be plenty of people working inside and outside. The campground seemed crowded with spacing between sites being adequate, but not generous. Despite the number of campers, the grounds were quiet, and we did not hear any traffic sounds. We did hear distant train horns twice, but they were not disturbing - we ran our overhead fan for white noise while sleeping, just in case. I didn't see any green landscaping in the park interior but there were trees around the periphery. I don't call this a destination site, but if you are in the area for an event, sightseeing, etc., this campground would be a good choice. We would return, if only for another overnighter on our way to/from home. We camped at Gilroy Garlic USA RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Olema Campground, Olema, California

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 4 nights. We received a friendly and polite welcome. Our site was on the main circle. We disconnected only so we could visit local attactions without our trailer. The trailer did not require leveling blocks. There were privacy shrubs between sites on the circle. Other sites, not on the main circle, appear more spacious, with trees and park-like. No cable available, and no air/antenna reception - a good time to read and enjoy nature. Our Verizon 4g signal was adequate - 2 bars, and we did not try their wifi. The cg is older but well kept. There are lots of hiking/nature opportunities nearby. E.g., Bear Valley trail. The Pt.Reyes lighthouse/national seashore, and Tomales bay area, are great for day trips. We recommend the Station House Cafe in Pt.Reyes and the Farm House restaurant in Olema. Its a 5 min walk to the tiny town of Olema, and a 2 mile drive to the town of Pt. Reyes Station where you will find more services, stores, restaurants and tourist attactions.

Yanks RV Resort, Greenfield, California

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Stopped here for an over-nighter in November. This must be a brand new cg - the office, store, grounds, roads, campsites and etc. were modern and immaculate. We received a warm reception, were guided to our site, and the friendly guide even helped us back in. Our back-in site was 50ft long, level concrete, and plenty wide. The pull-through sites are 75-100 ft long! Our Verizon MiFi worked well here so we didn't test out the cg's free wifi. The cg is a minute away from the freeway - the traffic noise was barely noticeable outside, and we could not hear it at all inside our trailer (our site was at the back of the cg away from the freeway). There's plenty of grass, shrubs and young trees. The cg is surrounded by miles of pleasant farmlands. We will definitely stay again if we are travelling by. Avila / Pismo Beach KOA, San Luis Obispo, California

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

New owners have done a lot of work upgrading this cg. Very clean; new redwood fences separate you from your neighbors utilities; level sites; nice game room; very nice pool area and walkways. Owners initially had trouble finding/training/keeping good managers, leading to some negative reviews about the staff, but over four days, we interacted with three different office/store personnel and were treated very nicely and with great courtesy. I believe this cg has made a great turn-around.

Freeway noise was noticeable from our site but we turned on the fan at night and slept well regardless. They have a good store with an unexpectedly broad wine selection. Site 81 was double-wide because of a shade tree that bisects it - I think its the best site they have. Our fees averaged $60 over 2 weekday and 2 weekend nights, with our KOA discount - fees are higher for Friday & Saturday nights. Considering the high prices we've seen elsewhere along the CA coast, I think this discounted fee is about average. We will definitely camp here again. We camped at Avila / Pismo Beach KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Shell Beach and Pismo Beach are only 10 minutes away too. The Avila Valley Barn is close enough to walk to, featuring fresh fruits & vegetables, nuts, kitchen accessories, gift items, a petting zoo, and etc. It seemed modern and upscale, but prices were down-to-earth.

Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park), Garberville, California

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Price relects average over three days and a festival weekend.

Site was level. Nice patio table but no fire ring

Friendly greeting on checkin. Office/store was clean, had good assortment of supplies and snacks. Bathroom was spacious, clean. Rec room was large and very nice. CG was busy, but they had enough staff to handle it.

Asphalt interior roads, mature tree between every site give moderate shade. Ends of each row had pretty flowers and shrubs. Well kept grounds. Plenty of staff in golf carts roving around on a regular basis. They proactively asked me if I needed help - handy, and good security too.

Although I reserved online, they were nice enough to call me to let me know Reggae Festival attendees would be partying there.

Highway 101 noise is noticeable but not a deal breaker.

Seems like a destination campground with golf course, nice pool, Eel River nearby, bike riding and a towed "train" for the kids.

Verizon signal was very weak. Cable TV was good.

A bit expensive for an overnight stay but the cg is very nice for a longer stay and if you plan to use their amenities. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.
