T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park, Port St. Joe, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the Gulf Breeze loop for 9 nights. The good news is the campground is directly on the gulf, so getting to the beach is a short walk away. The one bath house is very nice, the other is in desperate need of remodel. There are no sewer hook ups, the sites are cramped and electric is 30 amp. We had electrical issues; even with limited usage we kept tripping the breaker. Our fridge wouldn't cool, although we had no problems prior to being there or after we left. The park sent somebody to look at our pedestal; he found it to be hot, and had to get parts b/c parts broke into pieces when he unscrewed it. We had our 2 yr old grandson with us, who has had 2 surgeries and can't get water in his ears, making showers difficult. Instead we bought a small baby swimming pool to give him a bath each day. On day 6, after doing so for almost a week, a ranger came to our site and told us her boss saw the little blow up pool sitting on our site and said we could no longer do this. We were given no explanation as to why, and there's nothing in the sheet of park rules that mentions anything to prohibit it. At the same time our "neighbor" hung 2 hammocks from the trees, which goes against park rules and nothing was said. Lastly, we (and several other campers) had very limited cell service. The park is quiet at night, and the beach is lovely, although we decided to head home a day early (our reservations were for 10 days). We camped at T.H. Stone Memorial St Joseph Peninsula State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Milton / Gulf Pines KOA, Milton, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at this campground several years ago on route to our destination. We travel with 5 small dogs (who are obedience trained), and usually stay at KOA's, since they are very pet friendly. When I called the Milton KOA office to reserve a site for the night, the man took our information to make the reservation. When he asked about any pets, I told him we had the dogs, he then put me on hold for several minutes. He came back to the phone and said we couldn't stay there! When I asked why, he said b/c of the dogs. I told him we had stayed there before without any problem, and he replied the park has new ownership, and now enforces a 2 dog limit. We camped at Milton / Gulf Pines KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We were on our way home, after driving for 12 hours, and needed to stop for the night. I called Ameristar to reserve a site, explaining we were still several hours away and wouldn't arrive until around 10pm. I was given a site number and confirmation number on the phone. It was dark when we arrived yet the park was easy to navigate, well lit, and we pulled into our site without problem. We then took the shuttle to the restaurant for dinner. The next morning, once again, we took the shuttle for breakfast (which offers great views of the Mississippi River) before leaving. Every single employee we encountered was friendly, helpful and welcoming. The park is extremely clean, quiet, well maintained and secure. This was our second visit, since we stayed there for the night several years ago, and I'd stay there again if in the area. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Avalon Landing RV Park, Milton, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We needed to stop for the night after 11 hours of driving in route to our destination. We travel with 5 small dogs, who are well behaved, and also had our 2 year old grandson with us. Another "pet friendly" park, we had stayed at in the past, turned us away b/c they had changed their pet policy. We didn't know what to do so, and was exhausted. I called Avalon, expecting them to also deny us. Instead the lady I spoke with in the office was very pleasant and welcoming. Since we'd arrive after office hours she gave me our site number. The park is close to the I-10 exit, which was very convenient. We stayed the night and the park was quiet and appeared well maintained. I would stay there again without a doubt. We camped at Avalon Landing RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park, Saint George Island, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 10 days in this park and will return. The shower room was extremely clean, the playground well maintained, staff was helpful and the beach was awesome! The only negatives are b/c it's a state park there's no internet, cable TV (we brought our DISH) and cell phone coverage (we have AT&T) was spotty. For the most part we had the beach to ourselves most of the time; the water was clear, the surf mild enough for our 2 yr old grandson to enjoy, we saw dolphins and I found some cool shells. There's plenty of foliage between sites so it feels private. We did encounter some biting flies and mosquitos so if you have a screen room it'll be a godsend in the evenings. We camped at Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Triple C’s Campground & RV Park (Formerly Chattahoochee/Tallahassee We, Chattahoochee, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived at 9:30pm due to some difficulties on the road and the campground host waited for us to get there. B/c it was dark the host led us to our site, where he kept his lights on until we finished hooking up. The campground was clean, the sites spacious, and staff helpful. The pool area was nice, and park well kept. About the only drawback was no cable (although they have wifi). We camped at Triple C’s Campground & RV Park (Formerly Chattahoochee/Tallahassee We in a Fifth Wheel.

Magnolia RV Park Resort, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We traveled with a pickup towing our 5th wheel and an SUV towing a small UHaul cargo trailer due to an out of state move. Because of the closeness to I-20 my husband called Magnolia Resorts.

When we arrived in the evening my husband went to the office to check in; at that time he asked if it was possible to rent an adjoining site so we wouldn't have to park our other vehicle in the back lot. He was told that somebody had already booked the adjoining site. Needless to say nobody ever pulled into the adjoining site and it remained empty when we left the next morning.

As far as being a resort, it isn't. The grass must have just been freshly cut because we tracked it in each time we returned from outside. The swimming pool was green. The sites were extremely close. The cable tv had very limited channels. The park was quiet at night though. We camped at Magnolia RV Park Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Road Runner Travel Resort, Fort Pierce, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

I have reviewed many parks in the past and never have I given one a low ranking until now. We spent 6 weeks here. First, there is Wi-Fi but only available if you sit on their store porch. Second, the park has many large trees, most of which tower over the RV's. We had constant pine cones falling on our roof. We also had a big branch dangling by a thread near the front of our trailer where we parked. Twice we brought it to the attention of the office saying we feared it would fall on our vehicle; we were told we'd be put on the list for removal but their picker was presently broken. 4 weeks later the branch fell and luckily our vehicle wasn't there at the time because it would have been damaged. I later learned another camper, who was a resident, has been on the "list" for 2 years now for a dangling branch. Third, this park has a duel personality; one during off season, another during season. During off season the park is friendly, more relaxed and quiet. But in late fall many French Canadians snowbirds seem to take over the park; they are not a friendly bunch and the atmosphere is more tense. There also seems to be 2 sets of rules, one for Americans, another for the Canadians and rule violations aren't uniform. Lastly, they claim to be pet friendly but unless your dog is a stuffed animal it is not true. We camped at Road Runner Travel Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Travelers Campground, Alachua, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2011 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

If I could rate this campground beyond a ten I would, it is one of the best we ever visited. We had a mechanical problem late at night while coming in with our tow vehicle which left us stranded near the entrance. The owner towed us in, helped us set up, and gave us a number of a dealership who resolved the problem (a bad sensor). The park itself is immaculate, the little animal/safari area was cool to see, and the swimming pool perfect. It was a great stress reducer to a very stressful day. I give this park 2 thumbs up and would stay again! We camped at Travelers Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
