Destin West RV Resort, Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $105.00
Overall Rating:

Our 1st stay was 2013 and have stayed every year since. May be our last stay. I hate to sound cheap, but since 2013 nothing has changed (except addition of community fire pit) except the price. Premium sites 12 and 39 went from $400/week to $740. With zero amenities improvements.
Not disclosed on the web site is the 30% deposit, forfeited 30-days in advance. New management needs to get a grip. We camped at Destin West RV Resort in a Motorhome.

They try to justify rate increase by pointing at hotel across street with lots of amenities. If you want to schlep all your stuff across the street, have at it.

Windemere Cove RV Resort, Langston, Alabama

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Park continues to improve since our 1st stay in 2014. An ownership park, slow but steady population growth among full-timers. Beautifully maintained lawns, clean sites, spotless pool, clean clubhouse, new boat ramp and boardwalk along riverfront. Downside: location. Long drive to find Restaurants, grocery, fuel, etc.. It's a smaller, quiet park with friendly staff and residents who "make their own fun". Geared to adults, friendly to boaters, and perhaps best suited to folks who are truly self contained in their RV. No cable tv, didn't try satellite, and OTA was good reception but limited channel selection. WiFi was typical campground spotty. Almost no shade trees beyond riverfront. We have already made reservations to return. We camped at Windemere Cove RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Closest "civilization" amenities are beyond walking/biking distance. Restaurants and shoppingare what very small Alabama communities can support.

Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA, Lebanon, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

This was our 4th stay at this campground, our 2nd since it became a KOA. Progress has been slow but steady under KOA ownership, much improved, a few old issues. The new, larger KOA sign marking the entrance is better, but still partially obscured by a tree on neighboring land. Entry is still narrow if you meet a departing RV. Old, shabby RV's that used to line entry are mostly gone. Check-in loop has been improved, easier for big rig access. Staff remains friendly & helpful. Park is clean and wooded with mature trees in most areas. WiFi is free and works "ok" to check e-mail. Cable TV service has been upgraded and is excellent. Power and water hookup fine; sewer connection at our site was a little funky but we worked it out. Staff was working while we were there with grader and gravel to improve roads & sites. Pool area is small but VERY clean. Playground was enjoyed by our "grands". Sites are a little close together, IMO. This park continues to improve, and remains the best choice in the area as a family park for stays of a few days to a couple weeks. We will return, but they won't take 2019 reservations until October 2018. And this place is busy on weekends. We camped at Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are sites with fewer trees (for satellite devotees) bordering a field that separates the CG from a cemetery. Some are creeped out with that, we had no problem with it, very quiet (!) and in the fall/cooler weather the lack of shade is not a problem. In the summer, we like the interior sites with shade.

Cave Country RV Campground, Cave City, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This park is geared towards use as home-base for touring the area, not a kiddie-park in itself (no pool or playground), not a Resort park. It is well priced, well managed, and offers level gravel pull thru sites with full hookups. Trees are young yet, not a lot of shade offering, but: generous room between sites, no problems with slides or awnings. Meticulously maintained, spotless restrooms. Excellent cable with lots of channel choice; WiFi is far better than most parks. If the noise from a railroad or interstate bothers you, close your windows and turn on your a/c, you won't notice it. This is our 4th stay in 35' Class A with toad. We look forward to our 5th stay. We camped at Cave Country RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Destin West RV Resort, Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $67.00
Overall Rating:

Today is our last day of 2-week stay, our 5th visit to Destin West. I regret to say we spent a half day yesterday looking for alternative CG. The people here remain friendly and accommodating, the pool is wonderful and heated, the park is clean and well landscaped (except for a few bushes the winter freeze got). Ownership has changed. The Fudpucker's restaurant next door (in the past, a source of noise complaints) appears closed and may be converting to a pontoon boat rental facility. The Ramada Inn across the street with its "available facilities to RV'ers" is undergoing a huge renovation and is essentially closed. The big reason we are looking elsewhere: Value. Weekly Winter rates for 2018 are $470/wk. 2019 Winter Rates will be $666/wk, a 40% increase with zero in facility improvements. If you are good with these rates, there are several RV Resorts within a 50-mile radius offering great locations and much nicer facilities. We camped at Destin West RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Buena Vista Coastal RV Resort, Orange Beach, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

Finally a RV Resort that someone who understands RV's had a hand in designing! The focal point(s) of the Park are the lagoon with fountains and the pool/lazy river complex. The individual sites are pull-in or back-in, depending upon which position will give the best view out the panoramic windshield of most motorcoaches! I have never understood why even newer resorts seem to think a motorhome has a huge rear window to look out. Also, professional landscaping includes 6-7' tall bushes for privacy between sites. We stayed in a bare-bones site (#16) with no chairs/tables, tiki hut, hot tubs, etc and were perfectly happy. Just a short walk to the indoor heated pool/jacuzzi which was welcome in late October. If you want to grill, have a propane grill (some sites have nice, large grills provided, ours didn't). No charcoal, open flame grills allowed and there are no fire rings. But.....the privately owned site behind us had an outdoor fireplace. Go figure. We have been staying at another RV Resort located on Okaloosa Island in the Ft Walton Bch/West Destin area, but this place has it beat, hands down. We camped at Buena Vista Coastal RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Harbor Cove RV Resort, Coldwater, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

As per prior reviews, brand new park. Not ready for prime time. We stayed just an over-nite, were given site near gate. Best sites clearly those near water. Roads & sites are gravel, sites reasonably level, close together but enough room for slides and awning. We had to carry a picnic table from an empty site to ours, very few sites had tables. WiFi did not work, no cable TV, minimal grass/weeds, small (3-4') trees planted will be nice in several years. This park will be VERY nice when it matures, but right now, other than lake lots, it's a gravel parking lot with full hook-ups. We camped at Harbor Cove RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Safe Harbor RV Resort at Elm Hill, Nashville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $95.00
Overall Rating:

This is a brand new Resort and is pristine. Roads paved, sites concrete and level, views of lake jaw-dropping. The Resort follows the contour of the land, thus sites are on multiple levels giving a variety of views. Lady in the office was very personable and helpful. Issues? Yes: 1) the sites are close together. VERY close. A very few sites have neighbors on one side. Choose your site carefully. 2) If you have a 40-45 foot rig, many sites appear designed for you to back in with your last axle at the end of the pad, with the back end of your rig hanging over. If you are towing a vehicle, choose your site carefully. 3) Almost all sites are back-in. If you are in a motor coach with panoramic windshield but no rear window, the views are wasted. 4) There are some "parallel parking" RV sites. I've never seen this before. Judge for yourself. 5) Nightly prices from other Reviewers quoted last year up by 30-40% depending upon season. No discounts offered that I'm aware of. 6) Final curiosity- be prepared to present your RV Insurance Declarations page and hope it meets their minimum, along with your Vehicle Registration and Drivers License. We camped at Safe Harbor RV Resort at Elm Hill in a Motorhome.

Destin West RV Resort, Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

Our 4th stay. A smaller park, well landscaped, comfortable room between sites even with 45-foot MH's next door. Very clean, trash pick-up from your site several times per day. Laundry facilities and restrooms, while very clean, are small and designed NOT to encourage long term campers. In fact, the more self-contained you are, the better, which means larger, newer MH's, 5-ers and TT's. The heated pool is the social center to meet/greet, or walk your dog on the loop. Only negative is their annual price increases. We camped at Destin West RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Within 20-mi east on Hwy 98 or 30-A are tons of excellent restaurants, retail shops. Beach and large "family pool" access at the Ramada across street, reached by pedestrian bridge. Sites 39, 38, 12 are best; sites 2-10 I'd try to avoid.

Cave Country RV Campground, Cave City, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Cave Country Campground is best as over-night stop or 3-4 nite base while touring the Cave Country area. Small landscape trees provide minimal shade and can be an issue when extending slides and awnings (depending upon how you set your camper up) but when they mature this will be a beautiful park. When we arrived in a driving rain storm the lady in the office saw our coach pull up, grabbed an umbrella and made her way to our camper door to shield us from the rain! A very nice, unexpected touch! Other small but important points, the paperwork you are given upon check-in tells you the bathhouses can be used as storm shelters in event of an emergency, and a notation that you are in Barren County when watching weather updates that often post advisories by county, not city. The park is VERY clean, the sites are level. Roads & sites are gravel. Fuel and restaurants are close by, but (my opinion) not walking distance. My wife and I noted there were more high-end class-A motorhomes in the park than in our previous stays. Perhaps this campground has been "discovered"? We will be back. We camped at Cave Country RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Live Oak Landing, Freeport, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

1st impression this used to be a fishing camp. Located on a canal with boat launch that opens to the Bay. A screened pool is the only on-site family activity, although there is a Community Room. RV sites are mixed with "tiny homes" that are privately owned and rented out. As the park expands more tiny homes are being built, sold, rented. This means there was construction noise from heavy equipment during our stay. Our site was concrete, level, in good repair, long enough for 35'MH plus toad. Had picnic table, BBQ grill. Good water pressure, 50amp elect, sewer hook up, trash pick-up at your site. If you have a vehicle other than your RV, this park is well located with access to Sandestin and shops/restaurants. Without a vehicle, plan on eating in your RV and playing board games if you don't have a boat and a pool doesn't interest you. We'd go back for short stay under a week. We camped at Live Oak Landing in a Motorhome.

Henry Horton State Park, Chapel Hill, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Roads and sites are paved, sites are relatively level. Lots of room between sites, lots of tree canopy. Park is clean, employees put forth great effort to have family activities. Golf course was inexpensive and in good condition overall. 20-30 minute drive to Franklin, TN shops & restaurants. Downside: no sewer hook-ups, not uncommon in state parks. No cable TV, tree canopy made antenna reception spotty for very few channels. Frequent drive-by of park employees but no "valet trash" service. Office keeps odd & infrequent hours. As a State Park, its pretty darn good, beats our home state of Alabama parks. We would go back. We camped at Henry Horton State Park in a Motorhome.
