Echo Bluff State Park, Eminence, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a brand new park. All facilities are brand new and shiny and well maintained. There are 62 electric sites and 12 walk in. The sites are not large and for now there is absolutely no shade for non primitive sites. The scenery of this nearly 500 acre park is what makes it special. Many trails to hike and the Sinking Creek river offers a beautiful place to swim, fish and float. The park has a beautiful lodge and restaurant overlooking the bluff and creek boasting decks to sit and relax to enjoy the view. We camped at Echo Bluff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Montauk State Park, Salem, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Montauk State Park is magnificently beautiful park located in south central Missouri on the Current River. The spring fed waters are stocked daily with rainbow trout raised in hatcheries in the park. Although the focus of the park is trout fishing, anyone will enjoy visiting. You can visit the hatcheries, take short hikes, visit the lodge and restaurant. There are 4 loops in the campground, each with a host and are generally nice sized although some sites that are considered family sites have pads that are quite close together. Many campsites are located along the scenic stream with easy access for fishermen. Most sites have a asphalt pad, gravel drive, concrete pad for table and grassy area. Many sites do tend to get messy when when it rains since the asphalt is only as wide as the drive. Our site this time was a center site and relatively narrow. fire pit and table were a place a bit too far from the pad. Only two shower houses are available and are a bit distant from some of the sites. They are generally well maintained. Montauk has cabins and motel rooms for non-campers. We camped at Montauk State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Eau Claire Co. Expo Center, Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park worked very well for our purpose so I rated accordingly. The campground is located on the Eau Claire Exposition grounds. The sites for RVs and other travel trailers that use electric are in a parking lot. We were the only ones there. The contact person said unless there is an event at the Expo Center the campground is sparsely used. Tents sites are located in a field near the picnic area.

The Restrooms are next to the picnic area and are clean and well lit. A single spacious shower is available for men and one for women. The park is clean, well lit and safe. However, there is no one on duty all the time. It is not somewhere to stay for a lengthy stay to be one with nature. It is a convenient , clean and safe place to stay on the way to a final destination or if you are involved in an Expo Event. We camped at Eau Claire Co. Expo Center in a Travel Trailer.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park, Kaiser, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Lake of the Ozarks State Park is a large park with many campsites. There are a lot of beautiful sites right on the lake, however you need to make reservations early. Our site was shady and nice for just the two of us, but one side of the camper was very close to the neighboring site. This was the side away from our table and fire pit so it was not an issue when we were outside, however after bedtime it felt like we were right in the middle of their campsite since we were so close. For anyone wanting more primitive sites there are many large camp sites. Our restrooms and showers were clean and well kept, but one of the older facilities in the park. Sometimes we would use the newer facilities, but it was necessary to drive to there. This park has a couple of yurts in the camping area. Further away there are cabins. These take about an extra 10 to 15 minutes to get to. There is a camp store at this park where you can purchase some very basic supplies, fountain soda and ice cream but there hours are limited. Many trails are available. This year there were many deer to see. Be careful driving the curvy road into the park. Often we saw deer right on the edge of the road. The staff at this park were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of rangers and Missouri staff were around as well as many campground hosts. We camped at Lake of the Ozarks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Mark Twain State Park, Stoutsville, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Our family stays at this park at least once a year. Overall, it is a quiet park with many good sized sites that are wooded and shady. During holiday weekends, the campsites do fill up rapidly. A lot of boaters and fisherman use this park, as there is a boat launch onto the lake. The marina is a not located at this section of the park, but is about 20 min away. Note that on the holiday weekends there is quite a bit of traffic in the loop since many people do have boats with them. Mark Twain Lake has many trails to hike on of varying lengths.

The restrooms in the Badger Loop are older, but kept clean. However, some people do go use the newer facilities in one of the other loops. These newer facilities have individual showers that are roomier. We camped at Mark Twain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Hawn State Park, Weingarten, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Although small, Hawn is one of my favorite parks. It is especially nice for families since it is small and not a lot of traffic. The playground is close to any site in the back loop and the kids wade and play in the creek which runs behind many of the sites. During the summer weekends, the rangers often hold educational and craft sessions for the children. Site 13 is particularly nice for families since it is roomy, in view of the playground and backs up to the creek. The restrooms are newer and feature the unisex showers which are convenient for families. Instead of stalls there are individual rooms about 6 feet by 6 feet and are really nice when showering toddlers and other small children. The park is quiet overall. People with children do seem to get up early though. We camped at Hawn State Park in a Travel Trailer.
