Cactus RV Park, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Very basic park located on busy Route 66 so some street noise. NO RESTROOMS or SHOWERS, but full hookups. Everything worked as it should. Grounds were neat and clean with shade on some sites. Entrance and exit are one way with no turn around. We had to back up to sidewalk. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

USA RV Park, Gallup, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here before and very happy this time too. Everything was good. We got some much needed rest on a long cross country trips. We took a site that had cable which was well worth the $2.oo extra. Easy on & off I-40 nearby. If we get back this way we will stay here again. We camped at USA RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Call ahead because sites go quickly in the afternoon. Food and gas nearby. Shopping is a little farther away via Rt. 66 east or I-40 east. If you like stars a quick drive west of park on Rt. 66 gives you a very dark sky at night.

Desert Palms Mobile Home & RV Park (Formally Bakersfield Palms RV Park, Bakersfield, California

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed overnight thankfully. Nice place, but didn't get much sleep because of noise. In the city on a busy highway and near very busy railroad tracks. Trains ran about every 30 minutes with several trains back to back. Not a place to rest on a long trip. I would not stay here again. We camped at Desert Palms Mobile Home & RV Park (Formally Bakersfield Palms RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is in the city of Bakersfield and shopping and restaurants are nearby. Just off SR-58 on the way to I-40 and I-15 in Barstow. Not much after leaving Bakersfield, but food and gas. The drive through Tehachapi pass is nice.

Second time we've stayed because all the other RV Parks are full. Not many RV parks in this area. This time everything worked and we had a good overnight stay. This is a very busy area with numerous trucks stops nearby. We camped at Los Banos West / I-5 KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Willits KOA, Willits, California

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here overnight on a trip from Oregon to Florida. Not far from the intersection of US-101 and SR-20 about twenty miles from the Pacific coast. Clean park great for families who need plenty of things for the kids to do. Rate is for winter with only electric and water. Noise was a bit of a problem with all that is going on, but okay for overnight. This park was one of two on our route, so we didn't have any options. We camped at Willits KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

SR-20 from Willits to Fort Bragg has restrictions on length because it is a curvy mountain road, but has beautiful scenery. US-101 is much easier for a rig of any size. I would recommend US-101 to get to the coast. Willits is a small town with limited shopping and restaurants.

Rio Verde RV Park, Cottonwood, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Older park with many permanent resident. Limited restrooms and showers, but fairly clean. Our site was large and on the beautiful Rio Verde. Hookup arrangement was a bit of a problem. It was difficult to park so the hoses and cords could reach. The site was well worth the effort. We were in town to see relatives so we didn't spend much time at the park except at night. Some road noise that died down later in the night. Park was mostly full while we were there. Glad we called ahead. We camped at Rio Verde RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Cottonwood is a fast growing town close to Sedona. Lots to see and do. Shopping and restaurants are great, but expensive. Beautiful mountain vistas abound. Many state and federal parks in the area, but roads are not the best. There is a lot of road construction in this area. Well worth the trip.

Second time we've stayed here. Nice park near I-40, but couldn't here much noise. Nice folks who run this park didn't let us down and we enjoyed our stay again. Not many RV parks in this area, so this is like an RVers oasis. We camped at Needles KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Brookings/Harbor area is a remote part of the Oregon coast so shopping will require some driving. The city of Brookings has some shopping and restaurants, but because of it's size it is limited. To us it is the best of what the Oregon coast has to offer. If I were to live in Oregon, Brookings would be the place.

Riverside RV Park, Brookings, Oregon

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice and clean park in a beautiful location on the North bank of the Chetco River. Well landscaped with native trees and plants. Close to Brookings, Ore, but in a country setting. Entrance goes down a steep hill, but we didn't have any trouble. They are almost always full so book ahead. We had to stay in the overflow, but still had full hookups with cable and wifi. Their showers are heated. There is a small park down by the river where you can sit and watch sea lions and otters fish. People fish there too. I would recommend this park. We camped at Riverside RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Beaches in this area are great, but are difficult to get down to from bluffs. This part of the coast is very developed, so beach access is more difficult than further south. Shopping and restaurants are about 20 miles north or south. Weather forced us to turn south. A brutal winter on the coast of Oregon.

Lots to do in area from riding the dunes on four wheeler or horse back to hunting agates on nearby beaches (found many beautiful gem quality stones). Shopping and restaurants nearby. Whales watching was great up and down the coast. A trip to Sweet Creek Falls Trail head is highly recommended. It just doesn't get any better than this trail. Overall great stay.

Redwood Coast Cabins & RV Resort (formerly Eureka Campground), Eureka, California

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This park is an old KOA park. There are a number of full time working families living here. Everything worked well except cable. They told us cable does not work at all sites. They didn't know which sites did have cable. Our site didn't. I don't like paying for something I can't get. Park is north of town on a busy highway. Be careful. Sportsman's RV Park, Fort Bragg, California

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Small park only about ten sites all full hookups. Walking distance to bluff overlooking the ocean. Glass beach is about a mile away. Most of the glass is gone because it was sold off by the city to a scrap dealer. Ocean rise has eroded the bluff in this area and is subject to collapse so be careful. Our rate was based on a four night special. We camped at Sportsman's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Glass Beach is an old city dump where for many years locals dumped garbage. The only thing left is the glass from thousands of broken bottles tossed by the surf into billions of tiny bits of glass prized by collectors for art work. Now. however, most of the glass has been hauled away, according to locals. There are some restaurants nearby as well as fast food.

Overall Rating:

Not my first choice. The only other park in this area was full. If I had seen the showers and restrooms first I would have kept on going. Didn't stay long because we need decent showers. The office was closed the entire time we were here. Some guy came around and swiped our card on his I phone. I wasn't comfortable with this. The worst thing was how dirty the restrooms and showers were. I've seen bad, but this was a health hazard. There is NO WIFI or cable. We need get a couple of channels OTA but not too good. I would not recommend this park. We camped at Campers Inn RV & Golf Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Los Banos West / I-5 KOA , Santa Nella, California

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

A run down KOA that is hard to get into and over priced. This was not our first choice, the only other park in the area was full. Not many RV parks on this leg of I-5. We called ahead and confirmed they had cable. This is important to us. When we got there and set up we found the cable was fading in and out. I reported it and they came out in a few hours, but could not fix it. They stopped working because it was quitting time. We didn't have cable as they advertised. The wifi cuts you off after only a few minutes. If your in the middle of something you may get cut off. This happened to me and I was not happy. I would not stay here again. Tips for other Campers:

This area has very heavy traffic because of several large truck stops. This park is closer to Santa Nella than to Los Banos. Both are very congested. We drove into Los Banos to go to a Walmart there. The Los Banos Walmart is very difficult to get into and out of. Gas is very high in this area. Restaurants and shopping is abundant.
