James Island County Park, Charleston, South Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

If you like to stay inside your rig, and watch TV or peruse the internet, this is not the park for you (there is no wifi, and cable is limited). However, if you like walking, running or biking on paved trails, there are over 6 miles of beautiful paths for you to enjoy! If you like fishing in a lake or from a pier, this park is for you! If you love nature and wildlife, love waking up to birds singing, this park is for you. If you want activities for kids or grandkids of all ages, there are many options here! There is even a dog park! There are many annual events to enjoy - too many to mention. I just can't say enough about this park. I love the trails - every day I see something different in this beautifully maintained park. The sites are far enough apart for you to feel like you almost have the park to yourself, and each one has a nice picnic table and a fire pit. Very highly recommend! We camped at James Island County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pineglen Motorcoach and RV Park, Panama City Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The spaces at the ends of the park are large, and open. In the middle of the park, they are a bit cramped. There are beautiful ponds (not sure what impact on mosquitoes that would have later in the year), an open field where it's common to see deer, and a nice "forest glen" feel in the park. It's very pretty. Our only complaint is the internet. They essentially have none. We used up all of our data on our plan and then some the month we spent there. You can just never get on the internet! The park hosts are super! We had a couple of pieces of mail delivered to the park, and they brought them to our doorstep! We camped at Pineglen Motorcoach and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Red Bar in Grayson Beach is a must do. A better value, and less famous is Hurricane Oyster Bar, also in Grayson Beach. The Hoffbrau Haus in Pier Park is fun, especially if you enjoy German bier. Fishale tavern is also a good place to get a good local bier.

Pontchartrain Landing, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

The staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed here because the price was more reasonable than French Quarter RV park. I don't think we will stay here again; we felt it was quite expensive for what you get. The spaces are quite tight, with little room for vehicle parking. The park itself was a little run down, and not very well maintained, in my opinion. There were several areas of old, uncollected dog poo in the landscaped areas. My two biggest complaints are 1) there are no public trash cans available. You can't throw away your dog poop bag, a candy wrapper, an empty bottle of water on this property. You have to take all of your trash to your rig or your car, so if you are walking your dog, or walking around the park, that's very inconvenient. 2) their method of trash pickup in general is odd. There is no trash dumpster, so you are instructed to put your trash out for collection (staff drive around in golf carts and pick it up) by 10AM daily. The problem with that is that people put their trash out at all hours of the day. So at any point in the day, if you are walking around the park, you may be looking at someones trash laying out in front of their rig. Surprisingly, some people don't even bother to bag it - you may see a collection of rubbish out front of several of the RV's at any point during the day. It's just kind of gross. There are some nice things about the park - there is a canal adjacent, and lots of nice boats. There is a restaurant on site, and live music and other entertainment. You can rent kayaks and such. There is a pool and hot tub. While the service was great and the staff was friendly and helpful, I can't recommend this park, and it's unlikely that we'll return for our next visit to NOLA. We camped at Pontchartrain Landing in a Fifth Wheel.

Scenic Mountain RV Park & Campground, Milledgeville, Georgia

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This was really one of my favorite parks to stay. The grounds are beautiful, and very well maintained. They have a pool, playground and some of the normal amenities you'd expect in an RV park, but they have some that are a bit unique as well. There are a number of marked trails that meander through the woods on the property. They are not too strenuous, but offer a nice way to relax of enjoy a workout in the woods! They also have a dog park with an agility course! It's a very pet friendly park. The spaces are very large, and level. We camped at Scenic Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

A couple of great places to eat in Milledgeville: 1) Aubri Lanes, for fine dining, 2) Buffington's, a bar with great food and live music at times, 3) Metropolis Cafe, a hip scene with a full bar and Mediterranean food.

Five Flags RV Park, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Owner was very friendly and helpful. Park was very clean, pet friendly, laid out efficiently for set up and exit, easy to park the tow vehicle. Lots of full timers, as well as seasonal snow birds and some short timers. Friendly community. Park was very well maintained. Roads are gravel, residents respect the speed limit. We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay again. It's convenient to I-10 (exit 7), easy to enjoy Pensacola from this location. We camped at Five Flags RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Ocean Pines RV Campground (Military FamCamp), Virginia Beach, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Adequately spaced, level spaces; most with some shade. Well kept - regularly mowed and maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. Secure gate. Only down side is the number of people who ignore the posted 5 mph speed limit (posted a total of 6 times around the park). Approximately 50% of people (including Oceana Police) exceed the speed limit by dangerous amounts. Use caution with children, pets or walking/running with headsets! We camped at Ocean Pines RV Campground (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.
