Three Rivers State Park, Sneads, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first visit to Three Rivers and it did not disappoint. The drive in was on paved roads through beautiful pine forests. The roads inside the campground were dirt and gravel and unfortunately suffered from all the rain we've been having, but we had no trouble negotiating them. Our site did slope a little to the right side, but we easily leveled our rig. We were able to get a decent satellite signal from our site, but that might not have been the case for other sites. The campground hosts were great...very friendly and helpful and they kept this little park in pristine condition! There is a boat launch dedicated to registered campers only and stakes driven into the bank along the lake to tie your boat to. I really wish we could have taken a boat! Several good hiking and biking trails and fishing from the pier on the lake. There are Piggly Wiggly and Dollar General stores in Sneads if you forget something. We saw lots of deer, raccoons, armadillos, birds and birds of prey. Oh and BTW, NO SWIMMING because Lake Seminole has LOTS of alligators. If you're looking for lots of entertainment in the surrounding area, you probably would not like this park as there's not a lot to do in nearby Sneads and Chattahoochee. If you want a quiet, serene place to camp, you can't do better than Three Rivers. We camped at Three Rivers State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Potters Creek Park COE, Canyon Lake, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

We only planned to stay here a couple of days, we liked it so much we stayed a week. It's a great place to make a base camp and take day trips to see the surrounding area! They recently got a new contractor to keep the rest rooms and showers clean, they did a great job. Staff and camp hosts were friendly and helpful and the grounds were clean. Nice boat ramp. Be aware that it can get a little windy around the lake, so don't leave your awning out! We woke up every morning anxious to see what wildlife was in and around our campsite. Counted 17 deer one morning and not unusual to have deer visit throughout the day. Had several jack rabbits, raccoons and armadillos visit. We had no trouble getting Directv from our site (#4) got OTA stations in Austin and San Antonio for local news and weather , no wi-fi, but had good 4G cell service. Only about half the campsites are available, due to flooding of bath houses and other amenities in 2015, but they're hoping to have the rest of the campground open for the July 4th 2017 holiday. If I ever make it back to Texas Hill Country, I will for sure visit Potters Creek again! We camped at Potters Creek Park COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

It's about 8 miles to get gas and groceries (Brookshire Brothers), several places for a quick bite to eat and a Dollar General store, Walmart Superstore in Spring Branch about 20 miles away.

Hanks Creek COE, Huntington, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park, would rate higher if sites had sewer connections. Dump station was conveniently located, but strangely configured to make it difficult to dump without "accidents". Asphalt pads on several sites were badly buckled and needed to be repaved. Nice boat ramp and good lake views. Bathrooms were clean and staff was friendly and helpful. It was mostly families when we were there, it wasn't a rowdy group as when some other reviewers were there. Would stay there again. We camped at Hanks Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Service Park Campground COE, Coffeeville, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful very clean park on the Tombigbee River. We stayed on our way out to Texas and like it so much we stayed again on our way home. The best sites are probably 11 and 12, pull thrus with a great view of the river. We didn't use restrooms or showers but I checked, they were very clean. there was a washer and dryer in the bathhouse, $1 per load. If sites had sewer hookups, this park would be a 10, but the dump site is conveniently placed on the way out, so not really a big deal. Park hosts were very friendly and helpful. Not much in the way of shopping close by, so stock up before you get there. Nice boat ramp. We camped at Service Park Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is Alabama, with a lot of logging trucks on the road, so be careful pulling out onto the highway when leaving. Logging trucks operate at one speed....all out...and they don't seem to be acquainted with the brake pedal!

Shell Mound County Park, Cedar Key, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This small park is well worth the money. During our 2 night stay we had the place to ourselves. The caretaker was friendly and helpful, the park well kept and clean. It's a bit off the beaten path and you should definitely stock up before you get there because there's not even a Dollar store in sight. Directional signage was adequate, we had no trouble finding the park. The site surface was well packed limerock. Even though we had a couple of really heavy rains, we had no trouble with standing water. Our trailer is a 26 footer and we had plenty of room. Really large RVs may be a bit cramped. Be advised that this campground does not accept reservations and payment is cash only. We would definitely stay her again. We camped at Shell Mound County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Be sure and check out the shell mound and the birding and observation deck. A visit to Cedar Key and the Cedar Key Museum is a great side trip.
