Woodchip Campground, Byron Center, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We booked one of their two "premium" RV sites on the corner, adjacent to the row of full-timers. The roads at this campground are VERY narrow for big rigs, and cars from all of the campers and their guests are parked within inches of the road or on the road for virtually the entire way around the campground. Sites are all back-in around the perimeter of the campground, and I'm experienced with my rig and not at all intimidated about back-in sites. But with the narrow road and cars parked all along and on it, getting into my site was a challenge. Most other campers were not around to move their parked cars, though I suspect a couple of on-lookers were just curious to see how close I could come to hitting some! I was able to get into this corner site, but if I were at any of the non-corner sites, my 42' RV would not have been able to make the turn to back-in unless I was able to round up the campers who were parked all along the road.

Once in the site, I had to back DEEP into the woods until I could find a somewhat level spot. My site was not paved--most of them weren't, and there was very little gravel to help level things out. My heavy rig squished out what little gravel there was anyway, but eventually I got to a point where I could level--but only with my front wheels suspended 3" off the ground.

This is an old-school campground, primarily targeting young families. There are loads of outdoor activity for kids, and there are MANY kids there to enjoy it. Noise died down at around 10PM, and even the parents were exhausted by then so we did have quiet evenings.

Location was convenient for our purposes, but we won't stay here again with our rig. Anything bigger than 35' probably should seek other options in my opinion. We camped at Woodchip Campground in a Motorhome.
