Thousand Trails / Lake Texoma, Gordonville, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $3.00
Overall Rating:

The $3 rate is the 50 amp surcharge for members. The retail price for non members is around $50. We have been coming to this park for over 15 years. It is getting old, rundown and in need of upgrades. The roads are terrible and the trees need trimming. Most of the sites are small and in need of leveling and some gravel. It rained quite a few times during our stay and our site was very muddy. Very few sites are big rig friendly. There are lots of really nice big sites with full hook ups and 50 amps, but they are all taken by annual residents. Those annual residents are responsible for the improvements, not Thousand Trails. That leaves very few 50 amp sites left for everyone else. When the park is full their electrical system has trouble handling the load on hot days. The problem was so bad during the Memorial weekend that they now close a portion of the sites to help lessen the load. That seemed to help some, but we still had problems with low voltage and electrical outages. Luckily we had a generator and were able to stay cool during those episodes. The old water lines are constantly leaking. It is very common for the water to be shut off unexpectedly while they fix a leak. We have learned to keep a full tank of water for those unexpected shut downs. The trash dumpsters are always full and running over after a few days. There is constantly trash piled up around them on the ground. We were there on the 4th of July weekend when the park was full, which was a disaster. Evidently management had decided not to enforce any of the rules unless they absolutely had to. There were dogs running loose and pooping everywhere and the owners were not cleaning up after them. There were people parking in the grass and blocking the roads with cars and boats. Our neighbors were using the road to park extra cars, blocking us in. On the plus side the fireworks display was really nice, but that money would have been better spent on repairing roads and utilities. We camped at Thousand Trails / Lake Texoma in a Motorhome.

Smokin' Joe's Rib Ranch and RV Park, Davis, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The park is easy in and out. Not right on interstate so nice and quiet, but close enough to interstate for easy over night stop. The owner came and met us when I drove up, he was mowing grass. He was very friendly and very accommodating. He explained how they are improving the park and adding sites. The pull through sites are big enough to easily accommodate our 45' coach and towed. The roads were gravel but plenty of room for big rigs. My only complaint about the sites are the water faucet is below ground, so you have to get on your hands and knees to hook up water. The owner says that is one of the things he is going to change. The BBQ restaurant on site was excellent. It is very popular with the locals and there was a waiting line at dinner time. We camped at Smokin' Joe's Rib Ranch and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Canyon Trail RV Resort, San Marcos, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The park is located close to the interstate, easy in and out. Nice location close to Gurene and the Outlet Malls. There is a little bit of noise from the traffic and trains, not unbearable but you probably want to run a fan at night to mask it. This is a nice clean park with mostly pull through sites and cement pads. Our site was plenty long enough for my 45' motor coach and tow vehicle. However because of the over grown trees and low branches there were many sites that would be unacceptable to any taller RV's. The trees would definitely be a factor for satellite reception in many sites also. If they just trimmed the trees this would be a great park for over night stops. We did not use the bathrooms, WIFI or cable, so can't comment on them. We camped at Canyon Trail RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Mesa Campground, Gunnison, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for weekly rate. Staff was all great. Sites are level and gravel. Spacing was about what I would consider average. It was close, but at least there was a little space between rigs and your slides did not touch. Park was clean and neat. Would definately stay here again. We camped at Mesa Campground in a Motorhome.

Blue Mesa Ranch, Gunnison, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This reflects RPI rate. We have a 45' totally electric motorhome. I called ahead of time to make sure they could accommodate our big rig and that we required 50 amp service. I was assured that would be no problem, so I made my reservation. Upon arrival the sites were dirt with some gravel and lots of sage brush, no grass. The utilities were at the very back of site and on passenger side, so extra hose and extension cords were required. After backing into our assigned site I discovered it was only 30 amp. I returned to the office and asked to be re-assigned to a 50 amp and was advised that there were a limited number of 50 amp and none were available. We left and found much better accommodations down the road. We camped at Blue Mesa Ranch in a Motorhome.
