About Forest Service

I camp all over almost every weekend on National Forest. I love to find places that are unique and have fabulous views and a neat town nearby.

Bear Lake Campground, Routt National Forest, Yampa, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This area of the Flat Tops is gorgeous and if you have an RV, Bear Lake Campground is a great place to go. The sites are very wooded and they have a good amount of space in between the sites. It is actually a big loop and easy to drive through, some sites you can't even see anyone around you. There are 2 camp hosts here that are very helpful if you are looking for hiking info or anything at all. One thing I like about this place, is that if it is full, there is also plenty of camping outside of Bear Lake. And, I also like how the area has 3 different reservoirs to fish. (Yamcolo Reservoir, Bear River, and Stillwater Reservoir.) And a trailhead for 3 popular hikes is near here as well. The campground is separate from the lake, however it is only a short walk out of the woods and to the lake. There is no electric hook ups, but there is a bathroom and water. We camped at Bear Lake Campground, Routt National Forest in a Tent.

Sylvan Lake State Park, Eagle, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

Sites fill up fast and are kind of close together, but that would not stop me from camping here again. Looks like a great place for a family reunion or picnic too with lots of day use potential. I am not sure if you can reserve a spot here, but if you can, it would be on the recreation.gov site that offers all reservable sites in Colorado and other areas. We camped at Sylvan Lake State Park in a Truck Camper.
