Oak Grove Park (Military FamCamp), Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

A very popular campground, that offers a great location for visiting the Pensacola area. Sites 46 - 51 are considered water view sites (although most of the view is blocked by trees) and are reservable for a maximum of 14 days. Sites 1 - 45 are reservable for a maxium of 90 days. Although the sites are close to each other, there is still plenty of room to make yourself home. Each site offers FHU. Campground is big rig and pet friendly. There are a few pull through sites; although, most are back-in. Even if you don't have a water view site, the beach is only a short walk from anywhere within the campground. Swimming is not allowed a the campground beach; however, swimming is allowed at another beach a short drive away. Free Cable TV and WIFI are avaialble. Both worked well, with only occasional slow periods with WIFI. Campground was clean and well maintained. Includes recreation room, laundry, and bath house. We camped at Oak Grove Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Museum of Naval Aviation is a must see for viewing aviation history from WWI through today! There are more than 150 restored aircraft! Tallest active lighthouse in Florida is just a short walk from the campground! Pensacola Lighthouse is open for tours daily. On Wednesdays you can watch the Blue Angels practice.

Blackwater River State Park , Holt, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Small, but well maintained campground! Lots to do! Great location for kayaking and canoeing. There are nature trails and places to bike. There is easy access to Blackwater River and it's sandy beaches for those who want to enjoy a swim or an afternoon in the sun. There is also access to the Florida Trail that passes near the park and a boat ramp for launching a small fishing boat or kayak/canoe. For those who need or want to rent a kayak or canoe, there is an Outfitter about a mile south of the campground. One thing I found disappointing was the number of reserved sites that were not occupied! By our third night, about one third of the 30 sites had no occupants; even though they were reserved! Nice for us; however, there were probably people who were not able to take advantage of this nice state park. One thing you will hear are numerous US Navy training helicopters flying in the area. They generally fly high enough to not be a bother. A surprising thing for a state park (that we've encountered) is that they pick up your trash at your site between 8 and 11 AM daily. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Gulf State Park Campground, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent family campground! Lots to do here: nature trails, paved hiking/biking paths, boating, kayaking, fishing, and close to beach. Many miles of new paved hiking/biking paths and boardwalks were added in the last few months. One boardwalk is 1.1 miles long, providing a scenic view of campground and lake. They were testing the recent installation of WIFI throughout the campground; which still requires some work. You get a pass to the Gulf State Pier (saves $3 per person) and the beach acess is free. Will return! We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area (Military FamCamp), Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Lots of family stuff to do: natural trails, biking, swimming, kayaks and sailboats for rent (unless you have your own), basketball court, volleyball, discus golf, paintball, and even a putt putt course! Has two camping areas: Battleship Row (concrete sites with FHU) and Anchor Cove (lots of trees, dirt sites, electric, water, and dump station)! Great view of Pedido Bay and fantastic sunsets! Close to Gulf Islands National Seashore! Not far from downtown Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, Fort Pickens National Park, and more! We camped at Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp), Naval Construction Battalion Center, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent campground that is convenient to beaches, boating, casinos, and more! The campground is well maintained and clean. The WIFI was a pleasent experience, because it acutally worked all the time. Did not experience the normal slow WIFI, normally found in RV Parks that advertise WIFI. There are actually two campgrounds at Shields RV Park, both by the same name. The main campground is near the entrance to the base! It has FHUs, WIFI, and Cable TV. The second campground is on the far western side of the base, near the golf gourse and lake. It has FHUs; however, it doesn't have WIFI or Cable TV. This one is has a few trees, more grass and appears to be quieter than the main campground. Will gladly stay here again! We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Gunter Hill COE, Montgomery, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Gunter Hill has two loops: Catoma and Antioch. Catoma is the newest and nicest! Most sites in this loop are level, large concrete or paved surfaces, and large enough to handle any size RV. There was plenty room between sites. Antioch loop is older, gravel sites, close to other sites, and many appeared unlevel. This loop does not provide sewer hookups. Our site was clean, even the fire pit! It was wide and long enough to handle both our TV and TT, with plenty of room to spare. We were away from the any of the playgrounds or buildings, so it was quiet and peaceful. Would stay hear again any time in the future; hopefully, longer next time. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Oak Grove Park (Military FamCamp), Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We had a water front site, with a short trail that led to a beach with a great view of Pensacola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Dogs are allowed on the beach; however, there is no swimming. The site had a level concrete pad. Lots of trees and shade. Great bike riding/walking/running trails adjacent to the campground. You can take a short walk to the Naval Aviation Museum (a must see) and the Pensacola Lighthouse. Lots of beach to walk on with the sugar white sand of the area. A very popular campground. Excellent laundry and bathroom. A great place! We camped at Oak Grove Park (Military FamCamp) Travel Trailer. We camped at Oak Grove Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Forkland Campground, Demopolis, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet and secluded campground. Hosts were friendly. Campground is well maintained and clean.

TV reception over the air was extremely limited. Cell phone service was One Bar (Verizon).

Has nature trail, boat ramp, and wooden stairs that provide access from the campground to McConnico Creek. The creek leads to the Tombigbee River.

Plenty of birds for those who enjoy bird watching and photography. Saw Bluebirds, Wood Peckers, Snowy Egrets, Great Blue Heron, and many more. Heard Turkeys when walking the nature trail. We camped at Forkland Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Service Park Campground COE, Coffeeville, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Fine location on the Tombigbee River for observing large pleasure boats heading south for the winter; along with many barges carrying cargo north or south.

Our site (one of ten pull throughs, along with three back ins overlooking the river) was on a high bank, affording an excellent view of river traffic.

This is another fine COE campground, providing ideal scenery.

Over the air TV is weak at best, so bring other options to watch TV. However, the scenery and interesting boat traffic is much better.

We look forward to another visit. We camped at Service Park Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground with great access to beaches, nature trails, and of course Fort Pickens. Biking and hiking opportunities are abundant. The beaches are fantastic. There are numerous birds to see; such as, pelicans, egrets, herons, gulls, etc.

Be careful when selecting your site, because some sites are tight to get into from the access roads within the campground. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Located at the entrance to Pensacola's harbor, you will see many boats of all shapes and sizes. Across from the fort, you have a great view of the Pensacola Lighthouse.

If you are into military aircraft, this is the place to be. Across the harbor is Pensacola Naval Air Station, which provides an excellent vantage point to watch the Blue Angels (this is their home base) on the days they're flying. Also, you will see Navy trainers and other military aircraft flying.

Anchors Aweigh RV Resort, Foley, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Although there were many empty sites in the RV Park, we were assigned a specific one: Site 56. When we checked in, I told them it was our first time at their park and the lady (don't know her name) said I will give you Site 56. Avoid this site at all costs if you visit. When it rains in floods, because all the surrounding sites are higher.

Also, the other campers strolled through our site all the time to get to their sites. Two specific times are worth noting:

One man strolled by and was actually looking in our windows (creepy).

One lady, as I was sitting at the picnic table, just announced she was walking though and looked at me in a manner daring me to ask her to go around as she barged through.

We left early and won't go back to this RV Park for two reasons:

I feel we were given this specific site (Site 56 floods when it rains), because we were new. All the empty sites didn't flood when it rained.

The other campers surrounding us were either creepy or had no common courtesy. We camped at Anchors Aweigh RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.
