Mount Fernie Provincial Park, Fernie, British Columbia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful campground, the sites were very spacious, flat and were very private. There are many hiking and biking trails which are easily accessed at various points in the campground. The road in is a bit potholed so you need to drive slowly to get in. It is a great spot to do some biking so you will wish you had a bike once you see everyone doing it! The washrooms were clean. The sites were kept very tidy. There isn't a park office, but Park Rangers come around and sell firewood and sort out reservations and fees. We camped at Mount Fernie Provincial Park in a Motorhome.

Kikomun Creek Provincal Park, Jaffray, British Columbia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We were staying midweek in June so the place was almost empty. We stayed in Surveyors Campground which has the best sites. They have trees around them and you feel you have a lot of privacy. There are no services in Surveyors, but there are several washrooms that were very conveniently located. You can use your generator between 9-11am and 6-8 pm. There are lots of trails and you can see the endangered painted turtles at the lakes. There is a nice beach that you can walk to as well as a small lake where you could easily paddleboard or kayak (not very far!) We camped at Kikomun Creek Provincal Park in a Motorhome.

Kiwanis Oceanfront Camping, St. Andrews, New Brunswick

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We had a lovely site in the trees. The sites are a good size. Since it was in May that we stayed, there were not many tents in the campground. They are a bit of a walk from the washrooms but just don't leave it until the last minute. There was a great building where there were chairs and kitchen facilities, so if it does rain and you are in a tent, you have somewhere to go! Fortunately it didn't rain when we were there and so we could walk to the beach, walk easily into town and get onto the paved bike paths. Saint Andrews is a very beautiful interesting town and this campsite is a perfect location to base yourself to see it. We camped at Kiwanis Oceanfront Camping in a Tent.

Hole-in-the-Wall Park & Campground, Grand Manan, New Brunswick

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This campground offers a unique experience to camp along a beautiful cliff with views of the ocean and the occasional appearance of whales and seals swimming by and sea gulls and cormorants flying by. There are sites near the entrance which are in easy reach of the office with flush toilets and showers. And the WIFI. There are apparently a few full service sites near the entrance. However the main attraction of the park are the "cliff edge" and "cliff top" sites. These have chemical toilets nearby and water can be carried in from the entrance. The sites also have car parking nearby. We saw whales and seals swimming by as we sat in front of our tent. It was truly a unique experience. The sites were spaced quite far from each other and were very private. There are facilities available near the entrance but the beauty of the cliff sites made up for any inconvenience of distance from facilities. It is a good spot to explore Grand Manan and experience hiking and whale watching. There is a terrific French Bakery on the island not to be missed! One downside is there is a foghorn nearby and if it is foggy it is very loud. You will need earplugs. We camped at Hole-in-the-Wall Park & Campground in a Tent.

Crystal Beach Campground, New Annan, Prince Edward Island

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The park was a place to stay near Summerside and the bridge. We were tenting and the sites were a good size with some trees which often isn't the case as parks cater more to large RVs. The facilities weren't great, really old with no sign of being cared for. While not filthy dirty, they weren't particularly clean. There was someone out cleaning the pool every morning for ages, but given the state of the washrooms and showers I wouldn't use it. The office staff were very nice, though when I asked about access to the beach they assured me the beach was easily accessed but didn't mention that it actually wasn't a beach, more a seaweedy rocky shore. I wouldn't stay there again. We camped at Crystal Beach Campground in a Tent.

Carstairs Municipal Campground, Carstairs, Alberta

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

This a great little site in a lovely little town. The sites are large, with trees. Our site was very level, with picnic table and fire pit. There was firewood for sale - $5 CDN for a wheel barrow load and it burned really well. The hosts stay on site and were helpful. There is a playground and large field. It was an easy walk into the town just over the road with a small supermarket, a great little coffee shop, a great little museum and visitor centre. There was free wifi at the library and coffee shop too. We planned to stay two nights and stayed an extra because we liked it so much. There was a nearby train but it seems you get that everywhere in Alberta and the Rockies. The showers were $1 for 6 minutes, very clean and hot. We camped at Carstairs Municipal Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a golf course in town, but the one a few miles away in Didsbury was a great choice for a quick cheap 9 holes. Olds also seemed like a great spot for shopping. The Koffee Kabin had good coffee and wifi. The library is located in the school and the wifi is very good but you have to go inside, and they will tell you the password. You can't get it outside apparently.

Jasper Gates Resort and RV Park, Hinton, Alberta

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The sites were quite close together but were clearly marked and with clear markers and fences between sites, you did feel like you had your own space. The facilities were very good quality, mostly very modern and clean. I was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't get into the National Park, but this was a reasonable alternative. It is not too far from the park and close to Hinton. There was a small shop on the grounds. The quality of the firewood they were selling was excellent. We camped at Jasper Gates Resort and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Three Hills Recreation Park, Three Hills, Alberta

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great town campground, near enough to walk into town. There are treed and open sites. The sites were spacious and clean. There wasn't an office but the phone number took you straight to the woman in charge and she was always coming and going around the site. We really like town sites that let you explore the local area and this one close to town and with the museum next door was a great one. The washrooms were very clean and the showers gave you lots of water for a dollar. We camped at Three Hills Recreation Park in a Motorhome.
