Beechnut Family Campground, Mount Airy, North Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for the Autumn Leaves Festival in Mt. Airy. It is a pretty little campground. It was off-season so none of the campground amenities we open, but there were a couple of pools and a zip line that I remember. The staff was very nice and helpful. The entrance into the campground is a bit tight and winding. We stayed in the back against the pond. It was a tight fit with our 34' camper behind my crew cab truck but we got it in there despite a steep hill on the other side of the road from our site. The back of the camper was almost even with the timbers that made the pad but it was fine. There are a lot of full timers in there but they seemed nice. The site was gravel and fairly level. The hookups were located well and worked as they should. We had a picnic table and a fire pit in the site and access to the pond. There were some folks next to us that were fishing but I didn't see one get caught. It's a nice little place to stay. If you have a big rig or a long camper, it will be tight but it can be done. I can see me staying here again. We camped at Beechnut Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Manning RV Campsite, Greenville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice little spot to stay if you are in the Greenville area. We stayed here over the weekend for an ECU football game. We were arriving late Friday night and the owner met us and escorted us to the site. It was a brand new pull-thru he had just finished and everything was very nice. The owner apologized that there wasn't any grass or plants since he had just gotten the certification from the County that week. I told him I understood and that everything was okay. He and his father were usually around the campground or were available at his house across the street. All the sites have 50amp electric but he will loan you an adapter if you need it. They are also all in the open with no trees around. Water was good and had good pressure. It did rain on us a little so it got a bit muddy but I know the site was new and really aren't complaining. I will stay here again. We camped at Manning RV Campsite in a Travel Trailer.

Whispering Oaks RV Resort, Greenville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for an ECU football game. We arrived at around 9:30pm and were met by John the owner on his golf cart. He showed us to the campsite and helped us get organized. He came by again later to make sure we were all set up and happy. I spoke to him again on Saturday and mentioned there was a slight washout from recent rains. He said he would come in after we left and smooth it out. I wasn't complaining but he was very concerned with how happy we were. I'm making additional reservations. We camped at Whispering Oaks RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Carolina Beach Family Campground, Wilmington, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

These are nice people and the campground is convenient to Carolina Beach. It was available and inexpensive. Now for the real review. I was lucky. I have family on the island so I spent most of my time there, not in the campground. The sign says established in 1963 and there haven't been any improvements since. The driveway was potholes with some dirt mixed in. We found our spot which was supposed to be a pull thru. It probably could have been had it not been for the tree on one side and the power pole on the other. I got backed in though from the other side. A bit tight but I made it. Got everything hooked up and of course one of my boys has to use the bathroom almost immediately. He went to wash his hands and the smell of rotten eggs permeated the camper. The water smelled horrible. I talked to another camper there and he was running two charcoal water filters inline with each other to make it bearable. The pool was similar in color to the Olympic Diving pool in Rio, a nice greenish hue. The WiFi was available almost everywhere. I connected to four different access points and got mind blowing speeds just short of 1Mbps. That's more than double what dial-up can provide. The campground is more suited to the permanent residents as there are many on site. If you have somewhere else to shower and brush your teeth, then thus is a good place to hook up and lay your head at night. If you need the campground facilities, go somewhere else. We camped at Carolina Beach Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.
