Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Only campground inside Yellowstone with any hookups. Only hardsided RVs allowed in this campground. Sites reserveable and a must. No picnic tables or campfire rings due to being in grizzly bear territory. All garbage to be placed into heavy duty park trash receptacles. Allow extra driving time between major areas of the park as it is large, with only two lane, paved roads. The Grand Loop is circular and takes you through some very scenic sections. Any time there is a slow down or traffic jam, be on the watch for wildlife near or on the road, but be safe and heed park rules of keeping 25 yards away from bison and 100 yards away from bears, stay in your vehicle. It is a wildlife preserve as much as it is an incredible national park. We always enjoy ranger-led hikes and walks here as they will take of bear spray usage if needed. We love the diversity of natural features and seeing large, wild mammals, such as bison and elk. We camped at Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This campground will be totally closed in 2019 for renovations but the Fishing Bridge Visitors Center will be open. Leashed dogs allowed on paved pathway from campground office to Fishing Bridge General store. About half mile walk along beach on Lake Yellowstone, behind Fishing Bridge Visitors Center, to the headwaters, start, of the Yellowstone River. Road to, and Fishing Bridge itself, was closd to traffic during our visit.

Tumalo State Park, Bend, Oregon

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We spent two midweek nights here in a travel trailer. Campground was clean and quiet, but its location on O.B. Riley Rd. Hwy meant an occassional 18-9wheeler and other traffic noise can be heard after dark, and definitely more so at daybreak. Trash and recycling needs to be hauled out to dumpster near campground entrance. We camped at Tumalo State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Just a 15 minute drive to downtown Bend. Lots of free, on street parking to access cafes and wonderful gift shops. Bonta Artisan Gelato there is awesome tasty, made from scratch. Newberry Volcanic Monument and the well curated, family-friendly, High Desert Museum are just a bit south of Bend, on Hwy 97.

Riverside RV Park, Chehalis, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Rate does not include the 10% Good Sam discount. An rv mini park right up against the green near the 9th hole of the golf course! Sounds like it ought to be quiet and peaceful. Well, not quite. A railroad track is nearby, a municipal airport is located on the other side of a levee, and cars occasionally roar by the small road parallel to the less than twenty-five full hookup, back-in sites. Full hookups along a stretch of concrete just beyond the gravel overflow parking area for the golf center. Trash cans located every few sites along the fence by the road. The adjacent site (#21) did not have a cover over the sewer opening but no smells emanated. Overheard another camper share that using sewer as dumping station could cause overflow, but is OK as periodic sewer system. No Wi-Fi. No showers or restrooms. No dump site. Meh tasting city water. We stayed a Friday and Saturday night for the convenience of location. The first night was tolerable but a wedding reception was held at the golf course club house on Saturday night and the speakers and pumping music played loudly past 10 pm made the evening far from peaceful. We camped at Riverside RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Facilities limited. Downtown historic Chahalis is just two miles away. Map of a walking tour can be had at the Lewis County Historical Museum, located close by. Friendly Black Sheep Creamery makes fresh cheese on site; sells wool in the shared shop space with Ewe and I. Walmart, Kmart, and a Starbucks are on far side of the airport. Hiking trail runs atop the levee with staircase access points across the street from the rv park.

Kanaskat-Palmer State Park, Ravensdale, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very serene physical features. Deep forested campsites, pull-thrus and back-ins, some quite large. Very spacious and relatively level site. Room for our 37' travel trailer. Plenty of clear space in back to pitch a large tent. Short private trail through forest to connect to main trail to restrooms. Pump water spigot with gray water drain, doggie doo bag station, and dumpster located two sites away. Short hike to rocky Green River through day-use parking lot, on wide, dirt trail through woods. River use recommended for expert rafters only. Burn ban in affect due to potential for wildfire so campfire wasn't allowed. Road through camp loop adequately wide for trailer. Park info mentioned possible volunteer fire fighter siren noise can sound at any time but we did not hear it during our overnight stay. However, city traffic and a nearby trains produced noise, especially sporadically throughout the night. As a light sleeper, I recommend ear plugs. We camped at Kanaskat-Palmer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

La Pine State Park, La Pine, Oregon

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Campground facilities and campsite were wonderful. Location fantastic for exploring nearby volcanic monuments and the city of Bend. Low rating due to concern for the large school group that arrived on Wednesday before Memorial Day and packed in more than the maximum number of campers in each of the INDIVIDUAL campsites. This was our second year camping here at the same time as the previous year. It sounded like having a day camp as a neighbor for several hours when each day, the adults held outdoor activities in the open grass field in the center of the Middle Loop campsites. There is a day use group site across the river but no group overnight area. This huge group of children should be placed away from campers who seek peace and quiet at a state campground. We will not be returning here a third year at the same time period. We camped at La Pine State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Whistlers Campground (Parks Canada), Jasper National Park, Alberta

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty wooded setting. An elk were out one morning. As we circled around the loop to our campsite, sealed trash bags were laying out on the loop road that our trailer ran over them before I got out to push a few back to the grass line. This was shared with the collector when he stopped by later. Only one shower was open for use in the entire campgound at the far side and we did not use. Train tracks nearby but noise not obnoxious. Fire permit must be purchased to burn wood in site fire pit. CAD camp fee listed above does not include online fee and entry cost. We camped at Whistlers Campground (Parks Canada) in a Travel Trailer.

St. Albert Kinsmen RV Park, St. Albert, Alberta

Very quiet and well maintained rv park. Park, playground, and trails nearby. Was told there is a dog park across the road but did not go due to having to cross tall, muddy grass areas with short legged, small dog. Friendly and helpful staff. 30 minutes to downtown Edmonton via easy access to freeways. We camped at St. Albert Kinsmen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

The nearby Enjoy Centre offers organic groceries, candles, gourmet foods, plant nursery. Drove through but did not stop in charming downtown St Albert. Did visit Edmonton and attended year round, indoor Old Strathcona Farmer's Market, and rode the High Level Bridge Streetcar to visit the Alberta Legislature building. Heritage Park Historical Village was a cross between more amusement than living history but the unlimited train ride was fun.

Incredibly well done living history recreation in the historical park. Do experience it. Fantastic poutine at the Bowladrome in downtown Thunder Bay. Kakabeca Falls is worth the dtive to see. Not many RV service centers as we traveled across northern Ontario and Recreation World RV in Thunder Bay saved our trip with suberb service and having the necessary part.

Overall Rating:

Immaculately maintained grounds, is dog friendly, adjacent to off leash, paved, flat public river trail. Horseshoe pits and playground. We stayed here twice in August, on separate occasions and the water in the men's shower ran tepid at best, at $2CAD for five minutes. No one else using other showers, laundry room close. Reported and told being worked on. Rate listed should be $30.62USD, which is converted from $39.69CAD, that includes Good Sam discount, taxes, and $1 fee each for two dogs. There's an awesome in-town made ice cream served at MacKay's, bronze artist Don Begg's Studio West gallery and foundry (call to arrange a free tour), and fresh baked pastries and bread at Cob's Bread bakery in The Quarry, a modern outdoor shopping and dining center. Forty minutes driving time to downtown Calgary.
