Grand Island KOA, Doniphan, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Originally reserved for one night, however, we ran into a trailer brake issue coming out of the Dakotas. The manager worked her magic and got us to remain in the original campsite although she had it booked for the following night. The campground had mature shade trees and the nearby I-80 traffic sounds are minimal due to the surrounding cornfields between the campground and I-80. I was escorted to my site immediately after check in then asked if I needed help setting up. The staff from the owner, manager to the workers are very friendly and will accommodate reasonable requests. They offer pizza delivery (made in the campground office) in the evenings. These are very good people. We camped at Grand Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Timber / Greycliff KOA, Big Timber, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for one night. There was train and traffic noise, but did not bother us after a long day of traveling. The campground looked well maintained and clean with a lot of activities for smaller children. The individual sites are very narrow and you step out of the front door to your neighbors sewer, electrical and water hookups. The sites are long enough for long vehicles and you should not have to disconnect. The trees are mature and provide a lot of shade, but be careful maneuvering your rig as some are close to where you need to turn. All campground roads and pads are gravel. There is a small babbling brook at the back of the campground. A good spot to spend the night off the road, but is pricey for the narrowness of individual campsites. We camped at Big Timber / Greycliff KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Columbia Falls RV Park, Columbia Falls, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

A bit pricey, but the campground is picture perfect. There are strict rules, but they are for the safety, security, and happiness of all campers at the campground. There are no open campfires, but barbecuing is ok. Train noise can be heard, but did not disturb us. The front desk/scheduling ladies are friendly and nice. The maintenance and security staff are also very nice and helpful. There were mosquitos in the campground as it had not been fogged in a while according to the ladies at the desk. I was escorted to my site immediately after registering. The escort helped me getting the 5th wheel aligned how I wanted it. I would stay here again. We camped at Columbia Falls RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Indian Creek Campground, Deer Lodge, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campground! The ladies checked us in very quickly and helped me plot out our next 2 legs of our trip since they know Montana roads and highways. Extremely helpful staff, one worked on the gravel roads in the rain to ensure they were level and smooth. Extremely fast Wi-Fi and strong signals. The pads are gravel and are level and smooth. I definitely will stay here again! We camped at Indian Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $25.00

This is a decent Military Family Campground. The campsites are very close to one another, but they have full hookups and the pedestals are lit. The doorway from my trailer opens up to my neighbors sewer hookups. We camped at Crow Creek FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

WaKeeney KOA, WaKeeney, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We last stayed in Aug 2016 and extended to 2 days because of the owners friendliness and the campgrounds cleanliness. We made it a point to return this year and rerouted our trip to do so. Everything is better and they are as friendly as ever. We may route our return trip to stay on our way home. It is really great to pull off the road and enjoy the time there. The electrical connections were perfect unlike what was reported earlier by another camper. The owners will do whatever possible to enhance your stay. They have ice cream socials in the evening, pancake breakfast and sausages in the morning and the pool is inviting. Stop and enjoy their hospitality. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Natchez Trace State Park / Pin Oak Lake, Lexington, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed at campsite 27. Pads are gravel. Bathrooms and shower stalls were clean. The laundry facility in the bath house was a very nice bonus, not expected in a state park and was very clean. Although a bit off I-40 (14 miles from the interstate), it was very quiet and well maintained. The roads to it were also well maintained (asphalt). Verizon service is very bad, but AT&T seemed to be quite a bit stronger. No Wi-Fi. Cell service should be vital to communicate if emergencies arise and the state park service should remedy this. We camped at Natchez Trace State Park / Pin Oak Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

Townsend / Great Smokies KOA, Townsend, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Camped at site 11, about 40' from the river in a "Premium River Campsite" with deck, fire pit and full hookups 50 amp service. Was escorted to the site and helped in backing & positioning the trailer. Very nice & clean campground with spacious sites. We would have liked to have been closer to the river and the rapids to listen to the water. The escort came back while we were setting up and blew the few leaves on the concrete patio, graveled fire pit area, and wooden deck. Very, very nice ladies and escort. This KOA is an award winner and you will see why that is! The lower priced river front sites would have suited us very fine and would have been better for us. Extremely nice people and extremely clean. The store, restaraunt, campground store & Campground are owned by by the same people and are affiliated with KOA. Cable vision connection was good, but the lower channels had a lot of snow on the video, but viewable. The Wi-Fi is strong 2 - 3 bars but slow, very slow at times. Verizon signal was 1 - 3 bars inside the campground. We camped at Townsend / Great Smokies KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Chiswell RV Park, Max Meadows, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Camped at site #7, a pull through, with a 32' 5th Wheel. Full hookups with 50amp service, sewer, water, cable and Wi-Fi. The PVC sewer connection is cracked and broken and needs replacing. The cable has a lot of snow (audio & video interference) but is watchable and understandable. The owner/manager is very nice and filled my propane bottle as I checked in. The sites (most pull through) have enough distance between them comfortably, but you do know you have neighbors...most are very friendly. No fire pits, but all have picnic tables. Well stocked camp store and there is repair capability on site. Lot of rooms for the kids to play in with spacious playground and pool. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Flying J truck stop nearby just off I-81 on the way to the campground. If pulling a trailer, disconnect at the campground first before getting fuel...it is a bit tight turning in the truck stop. The campground is about 3/4 of a mile on the left from I-81. Very well laid out and nice campground.

The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground, Clifton Forge, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This could have turned into a bad review, but the owner made it right. Made reservations for site 11 with 50 amp service and all hookups. Employee gave our site to another, when we got there an employee said all sites were taken, but did find our reservation (I made reservation with him recognized his voice from phone call) and said he had nothing. I was in a bad mood already from the drive and told the owner and employee I'd go elsewhere. The owner, came out while I was trying to find another campground, offered his apologies and to use a 30 amp site with water, no sewer for free. My wife encouraged me to use it which we did. The site was small, but accommodating. I stayed connected to the 5th wheel (32') because of the small space. The owner did everything in his power to make everything OK and have a satisfied customer...his employees need customer service training and a better reservation tracking system rather than a bunch of papers in a notebook. This campground is small and has a lot of permanent residents with many older trailers. The campground could use the sites to be better maintained...the permanent residents accumulated a lot of unneeded "stuff" at this campground. The dump station did not have water outlet to wash out sewer lines and sewage. The cover on the dump station sewer needs to be redone and has a broken weld. Again, the owner is extremely nice. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Elkhorn Campground, Frankfort, Kentucky

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice reception upon arrival...an older campground. No escort, but found the site on our own. Don't be discouraged getting off I-64 and driving about 5 miles to the campground. The campground has quite a few "semi- and permanent residents set up. We got one that had a patio, but the campground sites are a bit close. Had to jockey around to get our 32' 5th wheel into the site #57. Site 57 looked to be one of those semi-permanent sites. Campfire ring across the road, tree and raised patio on our site were the hazards to watch for. Bathrooms were nice, but could use some updating. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA, Eureka, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Parked on an end of row site. Sewer, water and 50 amp service good. Wifi weak 1 - 2 bar signal only, cable connection very weak/bad and lot of video noise. Told desk clerk on check out, but was basically unconcerned and could care less. Sewer connection concrete was loose where it connects to sewer PVC. Bundle of wood $7.00. Lot of activities available. An older Park that could use some tender loving care and updating. Drive through site, but backed out due to tree on left side of site. Escorted to site, but internal roads have many potholes that need filling. Parked near construction supplies. We camped at St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

The campground is very nice overall and the campground hosts are very friendly. The bathrooms and showers really need upgrading and the bathrooms without showers should be upgraded to all having showers. The bathrooms and showers all have older sinks, toilets and showers and should be upgraded with better ventilation systems, this is the only reason not to rate it higher. Very nice campground. Some sites have no electricity, others have either 30 amp or 50 amp service. Campsites do not have water or sewage hookups. Dump station and freshwater fill located beyond entrance gate but before entering camping area. Each site has fairly new fire rings and grill grates over the fire rings. Nicely wooded and campsites are somewhat secluded from one another except for family campsites. We camped at Weston Bend State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Weston is a nice town with antique & craft stores. Dollar General is on Highway 45 going toward Weston. About 10 miles from Leavenworth, Kansas. Some noise from Highway 45, KCI Airport jet noise & train noise. Campground road is asphalt paved with some hills & valleys. Walking/hiking trails will take you to the river & there individual fenced dog excersise areas by the entrance.
