Timberlake Campground & RV, Stevenson, Washington

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Only an overnight, but the place is great. Full hookup, level back in, everything very clean and maintained well! Great dog play area up the hill. The staff work really, really hard. We could have taken a bigger site but for just an overnight we took one close to the bathroom and store. We camped at Timberlake Campground & RV in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There isn't much within walking distance, but it's sheltered. White caps on the Columbia river, just a little breeze up in the trees. Bit of an uphill drive on a narrow secondary road, but only three miles, well worth the drive. Cascade Locks and a busy little town, Skamania, to the west; The Dalles to the east.

Goose Lake State Park, Lakeview, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a little Oregon state park right on the OR/CA line. I've stayed here several times and really like it. So quiet, with wide open spaces. In the right season the birds are magical. This is not a high end RV park but a stop-over for a day or two is magical. Hosts were wonderful lovely people. The park is a big loop with back-in asphalt pads. No sewer but a dump station is right off the entrance. Don't expect a full hookup, there is only one 30 amp space, the rest are 20 amp outlets. We camped at Goose Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a stop-over site, unless you are comfortable with a partial hookup for an extended stay. The park is open, shady lots of grass and run-around area for the pooch. Mind the skeeters, this is a wetland fringe area.

Sparks Marina RV Park, Sparks, Nevada

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This place was stuffed with big rigs, had no problem getting our travel trailer in from the minute one of the staff led me to our slot in a golf cart and parked me in a pull-through. Interior roads wide enough to easily navigate. Not far off the freeway but far enough that you don't hear much, asphalt driveways, level concrete pad. Will be quiet for being in town, as soon as they finish the apartment buildings next door. Cannot fault the park for that daytime construction noise, and the project is almost done. The dog runs are smallish but raked and washed every day. We camped at Sparks Marina RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Just a ton of stuff to do all around the area. If yellowjackets become a nuisance (happens some years) wipe your clothes down with an anti static dryer sheet, keeps them off for a while. And mind the sunscreen! you're at 4500 feet and the UV is a bit stronger.

Boulder Creek RV Resort, Lone Pine, California

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Everything sparking clean. Lots of room to maneuver. Site was relatively level, with full hookups. The park is right off the highway, but we didn't really notice too much noise. We camped at Boulder Creek RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Manzanar is important, humbling. The drive up to Whitney Portal was well worth it for the view, and the unique change of scenery. The area up around Alabama Hills is really something. Lone Pine is a nice little town with lots of funky little shops and restaurants. Hiking, fishing, hunting, scenery all around.

Mono Vista RV Park, Lee Vining, California

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean park, very nice staff, gravel with grass sides. Nice view, although we were on the corner, nearest the exit with a mostly clear view to the north. Wifi should be included, and if they are going to put a cable hookup at the site, it should work with at least a few channels. We camped at Mono Vista RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a good base camp for a couple of days with a partial hookup, or make a reservation for a full hookup for an extended stay. Bodie Ghost Town state park is north, Mono lake is just across the road, Yosemite is up and over Tioga Pass to the west, and Mammoth Lakes and Devils Postpile are south, all within an hour drive. Fishing, hunting, scenery all around. Weather can be dicey, we arrived the last day of summer, and it was snowing!

Scotts Flat Lake Campground, Nevada City, California

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Busy weekend, the roads coming in and the access roads are all very narrow, with camp kids spilling out into the street. Most of the sites seemed reasonably level. We camped at Scotts Flat Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Seems to be a fishing lake, although we did not fish here, it was also a good home base for traveling around the area, Grass Valley is not far away. The Yuba River lies to the north, a very nice little river with good old fashioned swimming holes here and there. There also gold in them thar hills.

Red Rock Canyon State Park Ricardo Campground, Mojave, California

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

I claimed the first pull through I came across. Should have driven the whole loop, but it was only for one night so that was fine. That site was too close to the road, so dust was a problem, but the campground was lightly occupied so not a huge problem .

Lots of little trails, and plenty of OHV use in the area. I could have chosen a site further off the road, but I was done driving for the day. This place is very quiet, can get gusty in the afternoon. This will be dry camping so plan accordingly. The visitor center was not open so there was no local information or wood available, they will likely staff the visitor center later this summer, I am guessing. Also, no cell service either. VERY quiet. We camped at Red Rock Canyon State Park Ricardo Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Highlands RV Park, Bishop, California

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This was a quick in and out, overnight stay, and I will definitely be back. This will be a great home base to explore the upper Owens Valley. Only drawback is the wifi is a little slow, but I am used to high speed cable. I can live with that. Lots to do on day trips around the area most of the year. We camped at Highlands RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Bridgeport (fishing), Mammoth Lakes and Devils Postpile, June Lake, Mono Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, Bodie Ghost Town, all to the north; east is White Mountains and ancient Bristlecone Pine forest, west is the eastern Sierra Front, including Mt Whitney from Lone Pine, Manzanar Historic site is south as is the north approach to Death Valley. In town don't miss Schat's Bakery.

D. L. Bliss State Park, South Lake Tahoe, California

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

I was a camp host there last summer. Dogs are allowed but only on leash on paved roads and in campsites, not on trails. Cell service barely exists. Free Wifi is only available immediately around the visitors center. They say 18 feet max for motorhomes. This is a very old campground layout, that has been updated as much as possible. It is in great shape, for such heavy use. Parking, especially at the beach is premium. That said, this is a premium location, spectacular views, great hiking, and a wonderful Sierra experience if you are in the area. We camped at D. L. Bliss State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

A campsite gives you day use access at all the nearby state parks also. Parking is at a premium! You should have room for your tow vehicle if your trailer is less than 15 feet. There are longer spurs, but likely reserved months in advance
