Catfish Heaven Campground, Saint Martinville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Really hate to make negative comments about a facility, especially when the owners are no nice and park so attractive. The park is located about 12 miles off of I-10 on some of the roughest roads we have traveled on in Louisiana. We have driven on some dirt roads not as rough. Tree branches lining the paved road in the RV park need to be trimmed as some thin/light branches brushed against the coach several times as we transitioned thorough the park.

The sites are extremely narrow, some of the narrowest we have seen. If all the sites were being used, you would not be able to extend slides and awnings if your neighbors were attempting the same. Park had very few RV's during our stay. When not busy/at capacity, our site functioned as a drive thru, however at busier times, there would be two RV's on the site, back-to-back and the site would be a back-in. Sites, in my opinion, just do not lend themselves to any outdoor patio enjoyment/living. Too narrow, no adequate room for carpet, picnic table, BBQ or chairs. With that said, our overnight stay was only $17.50 for full hookups with Passport America discount.

Roads in the park are paved and narrow. Most sites appear level with concrete pads, some beginning to crack and a few with broken sections and very small grass patio. All utilities worked as intended with pedestals very close to the coach on both sides.

This park has a very large recreational and play area. Lots of open fields, lovely pool area and large covered pavilion. Park was clean and grass cut. Open sky for satellite reception. Verizon, Sprint and T Mobile all worked well. This venue would lend itself well to a family reunion with children where all activities were at the main pavilion and pool area.

The Passport America rate is awesome, however I do not believe we would return to this park primarily due to the rough 10 mile drive in and out and the narrow campsites. We camped at Catfish Heaven Campground in a Motorhome.

Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park, Niceville, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $20.00 per night, no discount with electric and water only. Central dump station on site, easily accessible and relatively clean. Below reviews are very accurate. Park is attractive with each campsite being in its own alcove of trees. Very large level clean dirt sites. All sites lend themselves to a semi-private, spacious and enjoyable outdoor use. Due to density of trees, most sites will not allow satellite service. Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile all worked well. Downside to the park is location, there is a $4.00 toll each way to cross the bridge to go to the communities (stores/restaurants) along the gulf waters/beaches. For this reason and this reason only we would explore other options on the south side of the bridge. There are two more State Parks on the south side of the bay in very close proximity to the Destin area. Note: should no other economical parking be available on the south side, we would return here and pay the toll. We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Motorhome.

Camping World RV Sales of Chattanooga, Chattanooga, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $21.00 per night includes full hookups and cable. Campground is old and in need of a little TLC. Park did not appear full/sold out during our stay. Some of the sites are used to store new RV's being sold at the store. The roads are gravel, and narrow. Most sites are pull through. Site pads are gravel and relatively level, most have a concrete patio with some grass and some have a picnic table. Sites vary in size from being short and narrow to others being adequately wide and long enough for easy tow vehicle parking and awning/slide out use. Most sites are shaded and adequate in size for outdoor activity. All hookups are on the left side of the RV and old. Some water faucets are installed very close to the pedestals and not overly convenient to hookup the water hose. Limited number of sites with 50 amp service. Office allows you to select any open site after registration and then report the site number to the camp host. The campground is located between the Camping World retail and service buildings and has golf cart traffic going back and forth very frequently during business hours. Campground entrance is controlled access via a touchpad code. There is a pool and shower/bathrooms that we did not use or check out. Verizon, Sprint and T Mobile all have multiple bars and work well. We will stay here again when traveling to/through Chattanooga, excellent value for the rate. We camped at Camping World RV Sales of Chattanooga in a Motorhome.

Riverside Campground & Resort, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $36.00 per night is with a Good Sam discount. We concur with all the previous reviews as they appear accurate and reflect our opinion/findings as well. This park is very large, around 300 sites and they were close to sold out during our 3 night stay. Office staff is very welcoming and helpful. They will gladly visit and help and inform newbies on opinions of local attractions. Traffic for the area is our only negative, during our visit over the Columbus Day weekend it would take us well over 30 minutes to travel the 6 to 8 miles to Pigeon Forge and another 30 minutes to Gatlinburg. Bumper to bumper traffic in both locations. This campground is an excellent value and should be the standard for all RV parks. We will definitely select this park again if in the area. We camped at Riverside Campground & Resort in a Motorhome.

Shadrack Campground, Bristol, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $18.00 includes tax and is with Passport America discount. We arrived after hours (in the dark) and helped ourselves to a site we liked. Entrance to the park is on a slight incline to the office/staging area and then a short steep gravel/dirt downhill drive to the campground. Roads are gavel and in fair shape. Site are designed as back-in but can be pull through if no one in site behind your site, pads alternate, every other one being gravel then grass. During non busy times RV's park on the gravel and have a large grass patio, extremely wide site although not very deep. During race weekend and very busy times grass becomes an RV pad and sites are very narrow, very close togther. Park was not busy during our stay, majority of park empty and clean. All hookups are at the rear of the site with some pedastalls being shared from RV's parked behind or to the side of your site. Depending on site selected, some hookups could be on the wrong side (far rear right) of the RV. Park is very close to Bristol Speedway and not far from retail outlets. Office staff very friendly. Sprint, verizon and T Mobile worked well. We did not locate or visit the shower or restrooms. There is a small store in the office with a few basic food items and a good varity of items/hardware for the RV. We would stay here again although not on a race weekend. We camped at Shadrack Campground in a Motorhome.

Cherry Hill Park, College Park, Maryland

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $63.00 per night is with Good Sam discount for back-in with full hook ups. This is one of the most professionally run parks we have stayed in. Although the rate is outside our budget and higher than our comfort zone, the management invests the money back into the staff and facility. The previous reviews are accurate. This is a controlled access park. The park has a very inviting and appealing appearance. The staff, and there are many, are all very friendly and very willing to help and accommodate. I'll not repeat previous posted comments but will suggest that if you select this park to give serious consideration to their guided bus tour (not a Grey Line Tour) of DC at night. This exceeded our expectation, and in our opinion, was well worth the $50.00. Considering all the factors, location, appearance, staff and amenities this may be one of the few parks worth this price. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to the area. We camped at Cherry Hill Park in a Motorhome.

Village Scene Mobile Home Park, Hatfield, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $40.00 per night for full hookups, no discounts offered. Camping/parking here is akin to parking in a Walmart parking lot with hookups. Office hours are limited. Staff is friendly and willing to accommodate. As previously posted, all roads and sites are paved and level. Parking is parallel to the road and can offer a challenge to get into depending on the site and other units. Ambiance does not lend itself to outdoor activities such as sitting outside under the awning or BBQ'ing, although some did, zero privacy. All utilities worked as intended except the water was extremely murky, the color of weak ice tea. Maintenance had to come and purge the line. Every morning I had to run the water several minutes to get clear water. Although a convenient location, I would seriously explore other options before returning here. We camped at Village Scene Mobile Home Park in a Motorhome.

Silver Springs Campground and Cottages, Saco, Maine

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $30.00 per night is with Passport America discount for full hook-ups, regular posted rate is $55.00 per night. Campground is a mixed community, cottages/cabins, seasonal and transients. The facility has a very appealing appearance and is located a short drive to Portland. Entrance to the park is a paved driveway that gives way to interior dirt roads once past the security gates. Our site, number 11, was back in and could be difficult depending on parked cars. All utilities are midway on left side of coach, easy to access and worked as intended. Pad is a mix of gravel and grass with patio area being grass. Our site was on a slight incline, just wide enough for slide-outs and awning, very deep and under a very large shade tree. Site included very nice picnic table and fire ring at rear of site. Bathrooms were clean, however there is a charge for using the shower. The facility has a large open green space and small playground for the children, 2 pools and hot tub. There is an extra charge for additional campers over 2 adults & 2 children and all guests. Verizon, Sprint and T Mobile all worked well. The owner was very friendly. At the Passport America rate this is a very good value for the area. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Silver Springs Campground and Cottages in a Motorhome.

Bar Harbor Campground, Bar Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $40.00 per night is for full hookups, no discount offered, payment is cash or check only - no credit/debit cards. There is an ATM in the lobby. All previous reviews appear accurate. Sites vary throughout the campground, many are in an alcove, heavily shaded and private that would typically be found in a state park. Our site and patio area was gravel, on an incline with a splattering of grass around and open to the sky, no shade, easy access for satellite dish. Hookups were on the left side of the RV and worked as intended. Each site had a picnic table and fire ring. Verizon and T Mobile had a weak signal, Sprint a bit better. Free scheduled shuttle to surrounding area and downtown. Did not use or checkout bathrooms/showers or local WIFI. All employees were very friendly and eager to help with directions and suggestions. Fair value for area, we would stay here again. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

Old Shipyard Beach Campground, Spencers Island, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $34.00 per night for full hook-ups (30 amp) plus tax no discounts offered. Campground is small, 20 RV sites and 3 cabins on a mixture of dirt and gravel, no grass. There is one road running the length of the campground and all sites are back in. Could be tight for larger/longer units. All sites face the ocean, great view. Tide rose 31' per day during our stay. All sewer hookups are on the left side of the site midway down. Water and electric hookups on the other hand could be on either side of the coach and both will need an extension to connect. The owner will provide an extension if needed. Sites are just long enough to be out of the road with ample parking bedside the rig for a vehicle. Sites are wide enough to allow for use of slides and awning. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring across the street by the rock sea wall. Bathrooms/showers were clean but old and dated and cost $2.50 per shower. The laundry room has three each residential style washers and dryers. Payment is on the honor system, $2.50 per load. Verizon and T Mobile worked well, no Sprint signal. The restaurant across the street was closed during our stay, not sure if out of business or closed for the season. Access to the ocean floor during low tide is via steps down the rock seawall. The beach/ocean floor is gravel. The owners are very friendly and will work very hard to please and accommodate. This is a unique facility, the park itself is not much to look at, utility hook ups/setup funky, the park location is isolated and the coastal wind blows constantly, however the ocean view, the tides and being at the coast (at least for us) more than make up for the short comings. A great place to just come and chill. We would stay here again. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Elm River RV Park, Glenholme, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $38.00 per night for full hook-ups (30 amp) plus tax with Good Sam discount. Entrance to the park from the highway is a dirt road as are all the roads in the park. Roads are one-way, we had no problem navigating through the park. Our site Y29 was a pull through grass site fairly level. Although sites are close together and open, they are large enough to extend slide outs and awnings without encroaching on the next site. All hookups were on the left side of the coach, easily accessible and worked as designed. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Location of fire ring, smoke, could be an issue depending on how the wind was blowing, close to the RV's. With the exception of the roads, the whole park is grass. There is a playground for the kids and the park sponsors activities in the rally hall. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We originally booked just two nights and stayed an extra night. Like most parks in the north, there is a sizable group of seasonal units in this facility, however, the park is very clean and appealing. Location very close to Masstown Market and a short twenty minute drive to Truro. Did not use bathrooms, showers or WIFI. Our Verizon and T Mobile had only one to two bars but did work. No service for Sprint. Enjoyed our stay here, we would return again if in area. We camped at Elm River RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pippy Park Campgrounds and Trailer Park, St John's, Newfoundland

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $46.82 per night for full hook-ups (30 amp) includes tax, no discounts offered. Park is located within the city, has semi-secured controlled access with students manning the office. The portion of the park we were exposed to, loop 2, has a hair pin turn at the entrance, you may need to backup to complete the turn. Park has paved streets in fair to good order with primary streets, two-way, being adequately wide enough for travel, however the loop street was much narrower, very tight turns with vegetation growing right up to and over the road in parts. Very tight maneuvering into and around our back-in site and depending on how other vehicles are parked could be an issue for longer units or inexperienced drivers. Each site is similar to many providential/state parks as each is its own little alcove providing some privacy and camping area. Site pads are somewhat level gravel with some grass and are wide enough for comfortable slide out and awning use. Each has a picnic table and trash cans located every few sites on the loop road. Fire rings are available for an additional fee. All hookups were on the left side of the coach, midway down, easily accessible and worked as intended. The bathroom floor and shower stalls are tile, and both appeared clean at the time of our inspection. Water control for the showers is a single push button providing lukewarm water at best that needs to be constantly re-pushed during the course of the shower. Verizon, Sprint and T Mobile all worked well. Our site allowed for our roof mounted satellite to get reception but could be an issue for some sites. The park has a very appealing appearance and is one of the nicest we have stayed in on our trip throughout NFLD. Although priced a little higher than we would like, we would stay her again if in the area. We camped at Pippy Park Campgrounds and Trailer Park in a Motorhome.

Cabot Hi-Way RV Trailer Park, Charleston, Newfoundland

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $25.00 per night plus tax for 30 amp electric and water, no discounts offered. Park is located next to highway and road noise could be a problem for some. Roads throughout the park are gravel in fair condition with plenty of maneuvering room. Sites are located around the parameter of the property with little shade provided by the large trees on the fence line. All are back in with most sites having a pad and patio of gravel, same as road area while some have a bit of grass. Water and electric hookups are located at the left rear of the site, easily accessible and worked as designed. There is a boil water notice in effect before drinking. The park has a central sewer dump station on site that is easily accessible for all sizes and kinds of rigs. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Like most parks we have visited in Canada, this park has a large population of seasonal units occupying better (guessing) than half the sites. There is a small playground for the children and a lake fronting one side of the park for swimming, boating and fishing. There are two unisex bathroom/shower rooms that are clean and cedar wood lined (smells nice) on the back of the office. Not fancy, shower stalls are plastic residential type stalls. Office staff is friendly. Office has very small store offering a few basic supplies and firewood. Verizon and T Mobile worked well - no Sprint service. Our site had a wide open sky for satellite reception, however did have a bit of a time positioning the XM radio antennae to get a signal. This is a no frills facility, very adequate for our needs, a very fair value. We stayed 2 nights and would stay again if in the area. We camped at Cabot Hi-Way RV Trailer Park in a Motorhome.

Country Inn Motel & RV Park, Gander, Newfoundland

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $33.00 per night total, no discount offered for full 30 amp hook ups. Roads throughout the park are dirt/gravel mix and in dire need of repair, full of large potholes. While most of the roads are wide and easy to traverse, some are narrow and tight, depends which section of the park you're in. Upon our arrival, the very friendly office clerk gave us several options on sites and suggested we go and select the one best suited for us before registering. Appears a moderate percentage of the sites are used by seasonal RV's. Our site was a back in, somewhat level with all utility hookups located in the middle left side of the coach. Our 30 amp service, water and sewer were easily accessible and worked as designed. This site had a clear view of the SW sky for easy roof mounted satellite connection. Some sites are very open while others are in an alcove and very heavily shaded. Sites are gravel and adequately long and wide enough for use without encroaching on your neighbor. Most have a picnic table and some have fire rings. Scattered vegetation (grass/weeds) very overgrown and in need of cutting. There are three individual unisex bathroom/shower rooms. All were simple, clean and appear functional. Laundry room is small, clean and has 2 each washers and dryer, $2.00 each per session. There is a small playground for children. Verizon and T Mobile worked well, no Sprint service. We stayed 2 nights and would return here again if in the area. We camped at Country Inn Motel & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Gros Morne / Norris Point KOA, Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Rate of $34.00 per night total after KOA club membership discount for full 3 - way hookup, 30 amp. Previous reviews are accurate. Our site 100 was a back in site, somewhat level with water and electric conveniently located midway down the left side, however sewer was located beyond the rear of the coach and required a second sewer hose extension to be able to use. This is a large park accommodating all types of camping, many tent sites and definitely caters to families. Many activities and toys available to entertain children. Park fronts on a lake with an on-site beach. Roads are dirt/gravel and in some areas tighter than others. Each site had a picnic table and fire ring. Did not check out the bathroom/showers. Many trees throughout the park, some sites secluded while others are more open as was ours allowing for satellite access. Both our Verizon and T Mobile phones had a useable signal, no signal for Sprint. Park is in a great location for a base to explore the surrounding area, two towns within a few minutes' drive and of course Gros Morne Park. This is a very busy park, we would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Gros Morne / Norris Point KOA in a Motorhome.
