Meaher State Park, Spanish Fort, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We fled to this campground to avoid Hurricane Michael; we liked our week stay here and will revisit in the future. 50A power, a different style sewer hookup point (than we're used to) required me to use an old, modified hose. Water pressure was only 22 pounds. Plenty of over the air TV channels, Verizon was strong. Intermittent wifi connection (pad 20). Staffed (daytime), locking gate at night (pass code provided at check-in). Staff made rounds hourly, local police patrolled at least once /day. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Smith Lake Park, Cullman, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Heartland held an Ala. group meeting here (17 campers) - at a reduced rate. Two months out we signed up to stay a full week ($160 - $170 for the week). Most important to know: no wifi and no Verizon; only two or three weak over the air TV channels. Parking pads required backing in at a 300 degree turn in - which pulled my safety brake cord out. The 50A service, water and sewer were fine. My assigned spot (M22) was foul with cigarette butts. We camped at Smith Lake Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

When we needed a resupply trip we typed Walmart in to the GPS, it took us to a Walmart distribution center; the real deal is just a tad bit further down the road. Verizon worked fine in town.

Engineer Beach RV Park (Military FamCamp) , Fort Rucker Army Post, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Due to its close proximity, and low price, we (me, my bride, 2 large dogs, and occasional guests and/or grandkids) stay here 3-4 times each year. No on-pad sewer in the near future but I have some great news, they claim they will soon be installing WiFi; and there is an area for the dogs to run free and play in the lake. Those last two items are important to me. We camped at Engineer Beach RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.
