Lake Hope State Park, McArthur, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This site along with many others are poorly designed and built. Site 175 is slopped down hill and while the pad was paved there was a sharp 45 degree drop off off of the payment. Unless you have a front of the axle door you have a 1' to 3 1/2' drop (with a rear door) from your steps. The lot is all downhill from there. There is not even a level spot for a tent. The neighbor, two lots down have 3' posts under the rear stabilizer jacks of this AirStream. To level my 5th wheel the pin was about 3' from the ground, normally when level about 4' This site needs a patio on the right side and steps down the hillside. Raising the back of the site to level with the road would be too much at this point, but a patio on this site and others would make this campgrounds a lot better. We camped at Lake Hope State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Huntington / Fox Fire KOA, Milton, West Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Overnight sites are very tight. Less then 21' in some cases.

Must share electric post with the neighbor, a 30 amp and a 50 amp out of the same post!? One site pulls in to the south, your neighbor to the north so your picnic tables are inline. No fire ring but the spot where the prior fire was is 7 feet from the trailer. Seasonal campers lots are twice the width. They took the site and split them in two. The tightness of this campground is why the low rating.

Campground sits along the Interstate so you'll have a lot of road noise. Be prepared to be friendly with your neighbor, because they'll be right on top of you. We camped at Huntington / Fox Fire KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Charles Mill Lake Park and Campgrounds, Mansfield, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed a Eagle Point which is separate from the main campground. Showers and restrooms were nice and clean. Only 30 amp available. Water at several points and at the entrance. No sewers, however dump station is available. Sites are somewhat tight. Upper part of campground has seasonal campers and lower part can be reserved. If not reserved, first come fist served. Well patrolled by park rangers.

Reservations are made online and there is an $8.00 charge. We camped at Charles Mill Lake Park and Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Boat rentals available, but little pricey. Lake view was nice with some lots right on the waterfront. Fishing requires an Ohio license. Some sites will be a little tricky for 5th. wheel as the slope off the road on some site is fairly steep.

Smith's Pleasant Valley Campground, Loudonville, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Showers old and limited for size of park. Pit toilets, plug your nose! Sites on the river cost $5.00 more. Shows Passport America discounts but very limited time frame. Watch for low limbs on trees on several campsites.

Camp store sells a decent pizza and they sell carry out beer. We camped at Smith's Pleasant Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Floating lazily down the river is the main attraction. Holidays and weekends are heavy usage. Be prepared for the drunks and partiers on the weekends/holidays. Can be very relaxing and peaceful during the week.

Wolf Run State Park, Belle Valley, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Sites have paved pads but grass or bare ground off 10' pads. Not very level front to back. You'll have to drop the nose of you unit to level it, so if you have a rear door you'll have a big first step. Even if your door is in front of the wheels you'll still have 4" drop off the paved pad. About 30' is max for this campgrounds. Beach is starting to be taken over by geese and their dropping have to be dodged along the beach. We camped at Wolf Run State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
