William Mitchell State Park, Cadillac, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Be aware that if you are out of state you have to pay a $31 passport fee to use any Michigan state parks. And state parks don't have water at your campsite so you have to fill your fresh water tank at the dump station when you enter. This is a beautiful park with great hiking/biking trails and is situated between 2 lakes, so it is a boating/fishing nirvana. Nice sandy beach, large grassy area for games. We had a pull-through with 50 Amp hook-up but no water. Not much space between sites but not a problem for us since no one was on either side of us. Our site was grass and dirt with some gravel. Lanes are very narrow. Very clean park and quiet considering how crowded it was. Bathrooms and showers very clean. We camped at William Mitchell State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Cadillac is a pretty town with many shops and an historic downtown. Outdoor sports are very popular. If you don't feel like cooking while camping, there are fast food places and restaurants nearby as well as a laundromat.

Happy Acres Campground, Angola, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We planned to stay for one night but had to replace our leaking kitchen faucet so stayed 2 nights. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Price is reasonable considering we had full hookups and a pull-through. Sites are spacious, grassy areas with a picnic table, and the sites are easy to pull in and out of with our 35' --no narrow lanes to negotiate. Plenty of room to exercise the dog. Laundry area is outdoors but the cost is $1.00 to wash and $1.00 to dry a load. I can tolerate a few bugs for that price. Bathrooms and showers are clean. I didn't use the shower so can't say anything about the temperature of the water. Laundry and showers have soft water. Since it was the off season I can't say anything about the activities listed on their website, but the office was very homey. Only negative comment I have was the traffic noise, but you have that in all campgrounds near the interstates. We slept well. We would stay here again on our next trip to Michigan. We camped at Happy Acres Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
