Gulf Waters RV Resort, Fort Myers Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park with owned sites that can be rented out. We stayed 3 weeks on a site in the back on Barracuda Bend. It is close to a busy road outside the fence that can be very noisy (racing motorcycles and loud trucks). If we return we will pick an interior road site or something much closer to the front. Management has a very strange mail delivery process. If you have a package to pick up at the office, you need to wait for them to put a slip of paper in your rented box ($30 deposit for the key that is refunded when the key is returned), then walk to the office to request them to issue you your package. It is annoying. I will mention that there was a very odd smell of sewage that permeated the cg frequently. Initially I was looking at people's sewer hoses to see if they were leaking but they all appeared firmly fixed. Not sure if it was a water treatment facility or a paper plant. People told us both but we were never able to confirm which it may be. Beautiful grounds with pickle ball, tennis, shuffle boards, nice pool, and a cafe with food that look reasonably tasty. The grounds are full of foliage. With all that said, I am not sure I will return. Noise, mail, and smell leaves me questioning. We camped at Gulf Waters RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground), St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very basic cg. They are constructing a nice section in the back with paved sights, etc but those are not ready when we were there. There is a shuttle that runs from the office to Old Town St. Augustine's tour area. Very convenient. The park is a little noisy due to a busy road outside. Nothing the park can do about it and the location is great. I would like to see the sites have much more landscaping and grass. Just gravel and sand. The front 2 sections are passable but not really worth the price at this time. Maybe the new construction will see renovation to the old areas. We camped at Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground) in a Motorhome.

Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $77.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoy our visits to this resort. The foliage, good restaurants and shopping, and closeness to the beach is wonderful. The people are friendly with sites well-maintained. In rebuttal to other reviews, not everyone can afford or wants a newer coach. Not revealing too much, I will share that I have a Newmar Essex so I am not one with a "lesser" coach but I do respect the efforts of others. They are having fun and, while not a new coach, they all appear well maintained and the sites are organized (little/no trash or junktiques sitting around). Many sites have large/extended sitting patios with furniture, grills, etc available for use. Wood fires and charcoal grills are not allowed. Pool/hot tub and tennis courts are all active with happy "campers". Lots of walkers, bicyclists, etc to chat with. Workampers do a fabulous job in all aspects of maintaining and managing this resort. Hope to visit again someday. We camped at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort in a Motorhome.

Wilmington KOA, Wilmington, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA is improving itself. They have grass in the dog park now so our dog did not come back black from the dirt like our last visit. We also paid for a concrete pad site this time which helped keep some sand out of our coach. We have friends just 10 minutes down the road which is why we pay so much for staying. I wish someone would explain why KOAs are so expensive. This KOA is adding sites but the construction was not noticeable. Will be staying again. We camped at Wilmington KOA in a Motorhome.

Camping World Racing Resort (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway CG), Concord, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This cg is directly across from the speedway and nestled with the ZMax Dragway. There is a separate open field nearby as well but we did not stay there. This cg was covered in shale rock but did have nice dog park. Lots to do in the area. Easy in and out. Camping World was right there and we toured a few coaches on our own just to pass the time one evening. No amenities but we are self-contained and shale is not the best play to sit outside. There had been a big event over the weekend and we pulled in on a Sunday so trash was everywhere. Clean-up crews came in early Monday morning to spruce the place up. It stayed nice and clean for the rest of our stay. Would stay again. We camped at Camping World Racing Resort (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway CG) in a Motorhome.

4 Paws Kingdom Campground and Dog Retreat, Rutherfordton, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

It's all about adults and the dogs at this resort. No one under 18 allowed. 3 huge play parks with toys for the dogs. Nice people/dog swim pond (too cold for us to use). Our dog found the best toy in the whole world (in her opinion) - a big blue horse ball. She was the happiest pooch at this park. 3 different types of sites to choose from: no fenced area, fenced area, deck w/fenced area. You choose the type you want depending on your dog's personality. Lots of trees so no satellite and cell coverage was a challenge. They do have WIFI and cable TV that seemed to work okay. The owners are efficient and friendly as they manage the grounds. Workampers are super in delivering wood and helping any way they can. They changed their pricing for 2018 so that you no longer get one day free with a week stay. They now discount the weekday rate over the weekend rate. Actually worked out cheaper for us on our next stay. Definitely stay again. We camped at 4 Paws Kingdom Campground and Dog Retreat in a Motorhome.

Mayberry Campground, Mount Airy, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Nice big cg with no trees. Sites were of reasonable size with a firepit and table. Nothing special but a reasonable place for an overnight stay. The Andy Griffith Show is based on a town call Mayberry which is really Mount Airy, NC. This is our reason for visiting. Glad we only planned an overnight as Mt Airy is a very touristy place and we covered it in about 2 hours. Glad we did it but no need to go back. CG is fine though. We camped at Mayberry Campground in a Motorhome.

West Virginia State Fairgrounds, Fairlea, West Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Surprisingly nice cg. There are over 600 sights but this time of year there were only about 10 units (if that many) at any one time. Amenities were none existent but the sites were very level and spacious (due to lack of other campers). We felt very safe there. High school nearby so we could hear the band practicing. We were assigned site S32 but never found that. We just pick one we like and that was that. Since we paid in advance we did not have to check-in and never saw any mgmt. But trash barrels were emptied and the sites stayed clean. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at West Virginia State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Candy Hill Campground, Winchester, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This cg is right off a main artery (522, I think) and can be quite noisy. But it is convenient to I-80. Firewood can be purchased by the small bundle or wagon load. We bought the wagon load. What was delivered was not anywhere near the quality of the display load but it burned okay and we had fun. Our site was far from the main road and very nice. Office people are hit and miss for friendliness and helpfulness. Yard workers all seemed to like their jobs. Easy in and out and the cg roads are easy to navigate. Will stay again. We camped at Candy Hill Campground in a Motorhome.

Tri-State RV Park, Matamoras, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Good overnight stay. Check-in lady was very nice but the office is a mess. The cg is right off the interstate but a challenge to figure out how to get into it. The roads changed recently and the GPS had not caught up with that yet. We ended up having to unhold so I could figure it out the guide my husband with the coach in. All sites are on shale rock. Its just a parking area. Surprisingly there are a few people with semi-permanent looking sites. Maybe working or there for fishing the river that is adjacent to the property. Good stop over when going north or south from NY/NJ to PA/MD. We camped at Tri-State RV Park in a Motorhome.

Boston Minuteman Campground, Littleton, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

Easy commute in and out of Boston. Nice large site with fire pit and table. Trees were trimmed high enough to our 13' high coach to fit comfortably under. Lots of exposed tree root to trip you but that's what camping is all about. We were in the site just across from the office. The main cg area is tight and crowded. We were very happy with where we were assigned. The park sign is hard to see as it is hidden behind tree branches. When leaving with your unit, recommend turning right as traffic is very heavy and fast. If you go right there is a very good turnaround on the left just before the traffic light. Safety first. We would stay again. We camped at Boston Minuteman Campground in a Motorhome.

Timberland Acres RV Park, Trenton, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Nice cg near Acadia Nat'l Park. I don't remember what price we paid with out Good Sam's discount. Wide, looping roads with seasonal and transient people. People were friendly. The national park and Bar Harbor is why people come. While this is a nice park there is no dog area or anything else really special. Location, location, location. We camped at Timberland Acres RV Park in a Motorhome.

Make sure to hike Jacobs Pond and stop for the popovers. Yummy!! Also, Seal Cove Auto Museum is a must see. Many one of a kind historical cars on display. Extremely good descriptions and there is a display about how cars came to be allowed in Acadia. An audible pros and cons presentation on whether cars should continue to be allowed. Due to crowding they are looking for alternatives to manage the cars and people tredding on the grounds and air quality.

Pine Hollow Camprgound, Pownal, Vermont

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Cute cg nestled behind a neighborhood street. Very clean grounds with a nice pond as a focal point. We were assigned the only sight that mgmt says gets satellite so we were happy. This site does lack a few of the pond if another coach is parked to the right. Good road in the park and easy in and out. Would stay here again. We camped at Pine Hollow Camprgound in a Motorhome.

Riverbend RV Resort, South Tamworth, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

The cg is well located but the elderly couple trying to run the cg seem to be challenged. The lower site with seasonal occupants was relatively nicer than the upper part used for transients. Grass was uncut, pads were broken up, picnic table was unusable. The pool was very small and the general condition of the fenced in area was such that I would not have used it even if it was open. Playground was minimal and safety questionable. No dog park but the White Mountains allowed plenty of exercise for our dog. Not surprising - there were very few people there. We camped at Riverbend RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Mountain View Campground, Sullivan, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Could be a nice cg as it is on the water with some nice views. Big rig fhu sites are very close to Rt 1 so quite a bit of traffic noise. Not too bad though. We had a very large site with a water view so that made this week manageable. 2 dog areas but they are just open spaces with a path mowed through them. No play room and definitely not off-the-leash time. Trash smell was horrible and not picked up until Saturday. Lots of handmade signs telling you "No Rugs on Grass". There were only weeds growing through gravel so I don't understand the reason for the signs. Owner was very pleasant and helpful. Runs an antique shop on the site. My take is that the cg provides income to support the preferred antique business. Fire pit and picnic table were in good shape. We camped at Mountain View Campground in a Motorhome.
