Elkhorn Campground, Frankfort, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a family-run cg that is very nice. We will have moved 4 times by the end of our Frankfort stay but we love this place. There had been quite a bit of rain so the 1st spot (86A) was muddy and had a tree in the middle of the patio so the awnings could not be extended. The 2nd site (80A) was good but our 45' coach mirrors hung out in the road a tad. The car had to be parked elsewhere. Site 57 was perfect with a fhu, everything fit with room to spare, patio, and nice grassy area for our dog to hang out. We liked it so much here that we extended our stay for 2 nights which resulted in us having to move a 4th time to a riverfront spot without sewer. No big deal and the dog loved it. They keep the grounds nicely groomed, there are new picnice tables, and they power washed the fence this week. Everyone we met was very pleasant and helpful. They really worked to get us into a good site for our 3 1/2 week stay. I would rate this place a 10 if all of the sites were level, asphalted or gravel, and a little longer to all for some stretch room. As I said, we were in a great spot but there were many that were very snug back to front, particularly. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Motorhome.

Raccoon Valley RV Park - Escapees Rainbow Park, Heiskell, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Other reviews have rated this park a 4 star. While it was clean, very friendly/helpful people, the sites are minimal. It is the 1st Escapees Rainbow Park we have stayed at but I am rating this based on other independent campgrounds we have been to. Not other Escapees parks. There are some long term people that could stand to clean up their sites to include the backside of the site. It is clean and safe but nothing to get excited about. Reasonably close to Oak Ridge and Knoxville. Sites are level with some grass and trees around. Nice dog park. There is also a nice half mile hike behind the cg and a stream running through and behind the cg. Good book and video library in the office. We would stay again but, in my opinion, it is a 3 star. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Motorhome.

Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground, Chattanooga, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Nice CG with the opportunity to hike up the mountain and/or explore a cave. The spaces are tight with very little room for yourself; looking out over the maintenance yard. Lots were pretty level. The grass was very long but eventually the crew came through and cut it. There is a nice big dog park and a good stream running behind the primitive section. There had been a lot of rain so the stream was running strong from our 2nd day on. There is a real swinging bridge over the stream about 15' long. No steel braces under the bridge but good strong cable holding you up. It was fun for humans and dogs. The hike was challenging for us as it required some hands and knees as well as rope climbing to conquer the mountain. There are a couple of paths you can take, but if you don't know that you don't know how easy or technically challenging your hike will be. All of this is right on the CG grounds. After saying all of this, I would probably look for a different park to stay at the next time through. The very tight spaces was a big negative. We have stayed in a lot of CGs and this was the worst for being on top of one another. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This park has full hook ups all the way down to primitive. Somewhere there is a site to fit your needs. Several loops that you can walk but this park has many hiking trails of varies skill levels. There is also an observatory in the park. Check the schedule for activities. Beautiful night lights of Huntsville as you walk the farthest loop. The roads up to the park are a little scary. Quite the climb on the road we brought our coach up on. There is also another road in coming from Huntsville that a big rig would be very challenged to make. There are warnings but what do you do if your GPS send you that way and you don't know. Thankfully, we did not have that issue. Just be warned. The park itself is very nice and we would definitely return. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.

Fair Harbor RV Park, Perry, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

There are 4 sections to this CG. One with old rundown campers, 1 with mid-range permanent campers, and 2 transient sections. Both of these are very nice. We had an extra large corner site in front of the lake. Some sites are quite tight and backing out was a little challenging because of our 45' length. There are horses boarded on the site, but there was no noise, flies, or smell from them, and the barn was very nicely kept. There is a permanent person (maybe the owner?) that keeps a large field of goats that are also quiet and not smelly. Fun to watch the children and dogs enjoy the goats. We camped at Fair Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Lots of things to do in Macon. Make sure you go to the visitor center to watch the 10 minute free video about Macon. You will come away thinking there is a lot more to Macon than you ever thought. Lots of good breweries near. Don't miss the Native American Ocmulgee National Monument.

Indian Springs State Park, Flovilla, Georgia

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

There are no assigned spots in this park. You drive around until you find a site that is available and you want. We were fortunate to be there when it was not at all busy so we had the lake on 2 sides and a super large site. Only negative point is that there was no full hook up. Only water and electric. We would have stayed longer if we did not already have reservation at another park. Very woodsy. We camped at Indian Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

Coastline RV Resort, Eastpoint, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

I made a reservation a year in advance to get the Gulf water view that we wanted. At the time of the reservation I informed the woman taking the reservation that we would be coming in a motor coach. When we arrived we discovered all the Gulf facing sites are set up for 5th wheels putting utilities on the wrong side for us. So, if you want to look out your windshield at the beautiful Gulf you must have sufficient electric cord, water and sewer hose to make it work. I was really upset that the owner did not take out a few minutes to have a conversation with me about this as well as when I made the reservation a year in advance I was not told they would were charging me the full amount upfront and there was a no cancellation policy. The woman that made the reservation was fired for making multiple mistakes with multiple customers but I still wanted the courtesy of a conversation. The sites with the water view are right on the road and there is heavy and very noisy traffic, particularly in the late afternoons/early evening hours. I will not stay here again because of the owner's lack of interest in their customers and the significant road noise. All that said, their bathrooms are fabulous. Granite counters, frosted glass stall doors, automatic turn on/off lighting, and a large shower/dressing area with soft elevator music playing throughout. We camped at Coastline RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Cedar Key RV Resort, Cedar Key, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a snowbird facility but has all 5th wheels and motorhomes. No park models. The people are all friendly and helpful. The pool was kept covered but if it was warm enough and someone wanted to use it they would uncover it. There was a nice drainage dip behind our site that permitted our dog to play with her ball with minimal interaction from us (she was on her leash). No burrs or nasties when we were there. We stopped as we traversed from Tampa area to the panhandle. We would stay again. We camped at Cedar Key RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Lazydays RV Campground, Seffner, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Nothing special about this park but its location is good for accomplishing things around Tampa. The employees in all areas (cg, sales, and service) were friendly. They do drive their golf carts very fast so keep an eye out. They leave the coaches unlocked during the day so people can view them at their leisure. That was very pleasant. There is a guard out from and other gates are lock at night. Not surprising, the sites are small and close together but it did the job we needed. There are a couple of nice dog parks: 1 in the cg and another in the "for sale" coach area. Well stocked store on the grounds as well. We camped at Lazydays RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Gulf Waters RV Resort, Fort Myers Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park with owned sites that can be rented out. We stayed 3 weeks on a site in the back on Barracuda Bend. It is close to a busy road outside the fence that can be very noisy (racing motorcycles and loud trucks). If we return we will pick an interior road site or something much closer to the front. Management has a very strange mail delivery process. If you have a package to pick up at the office, you need to wait for them to put a slip of paper in your rented box ($30 deposit for the key that is refunded when the key is returned), then walk to the office to request them to issue you your package. It is annoying. I will mention that there was a very odd smell of sewage that permeated the cg frequently. Initially I was looking at people's sewer hoses to see if they were leaking but they all appeared firmly fixed. Not sure if it was a water treatment facility or a paper plant. People told us both but we were never able to confirm which it may be. Beautiful grounds with pickle ball, tennis, shuffle boards, nice pool, and a cafe with food that look reasonably tasty. The grounds are full of foliage. With all that said, I am not sure I will return. Noise, mail, and smell leaves me questioning. We camped at Gulf Waters RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Gulf Waters RV Resort, Fort Myers Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very nice owners motor coach resort for the Holidays. While spaces are snug there is foliage between so you feel like you have privacy. Receiving mail is cumbersome unless you receive small envelopes because you have to check your assigned box outside the laundry room for a yellow slip. If you have one you must then walk up to the office to wait around until someone comes out for your yellow slip then goes back to hunt out which envelope or package is yours. The office staff is not very friendly but the residents are quite nice. There are a lot of activities for snowbirds to take advantage of. Most activities were starting in Jan and, sadly, we were off to continue our adventure. Would definitely stay again. We camped at Gulf Waters RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Palm Beach Motorcoach Resort (Class A only), Jupiter, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This is an owners park but it was so new only half the park was open and only a few lots were sold. It is a reasonable park with all sites either lake front or lake view. There is not much around but we managed to enjoy our few days stay. There were very fair with us but allowing us to retain our coupon for a future stay and charging us only 50% of their normal rate. The rate they charged us is what we thought was reasonable for the area and the amenities they will eventually have. Would go back as a cross through to another location. We camped at Palm Beach Motorcoach Resort (Class A only) in a Motorhome.

Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground), St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very basic cg. They are constructing a nice section in the back with paved sights, etc but those are not ready when we were there. There is a shuttle that runs from the office to Old Town St. Augustine's tour area. Very convenient. The park is a little noisy due to a busy road outside. Nothing the park can do about it and the location is great. I would like to see the sites have much more landscaping and grass. Just gravel and sand. The front 2 sections are passable but not really worth the price at this time. Maybe the new construction will see renovation to the old areas. We camped at Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground) in a Motorhome.

Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $77.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoy our visits to this resort. The foliage, good restaurants and shopping, and closeness to the beach is wonderful. The people are friendly with sites well-maintained. In rebuttal to other reviews, not everyone can afford or wants a newer coach. Not revealing too much, I will share that I have a Newmar Essex so I am not one with a "lesser" coach but I do respect the efforts of others. They are having fun and, while not a new coach, they all appear well maintained and the sites are organized (little/no trash or junktiques sitting around). Many sites have large/extended sitting patios with furniture, grills, etc available for use. Wood fires and charcoal grills are not allowed. Pool/hot tub and tennis courts are all active with happy "campers". Lots of walkers, bicyclists, etc to chat with. Workampers do a fabulous job in all aspects of maintaining and managing this resort. Hope to visit again someday. We camped at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort in a Motorhome.

Wilmington KOA, Wilmington, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA is improving itself. They have grass in the dog park now so our dog did not come back black from the dirt like our last visit. We also paid for a concrete pad site this time which helped keep some sand out of our coach. We have friends just 10 minutes down the road which is why we pay so much for staying. I wish someone would explain why KOAs are so expensive. This KOA is adding sites but the construction was not noticeable. Will be staying again. We camped at Wilmington KOA in a Motorhome.
