Barren River State Resort Park, Lucas, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here because it was my closest alternative when I found out that all sites at Baileys Point COE were full. Boy was this a compromise! This was one of the worst places I have ever stayed. Even after using all of my leveling blocks, the RV still listed to the rear. The water hookup was so far away from the site - on the 'wrong' side - that I didn't even bother to hook up the water line. We camped at Barren River State Resort Park in a Motorhome.

Charlestown State Park, Charlestown, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Great place to stay if you need to be near Louisville, Kentucky. It's just up the road but very convenient to either the east side of town (over the toll bridge) or downtown (over the regular bridge.) Both full hookup and water/electric sites available. Verizon service is good and there are a few OTA TV stations available. Full hookup sites are large and only minor leveling is needed. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

Columbus-Belmont State Park, Columbus, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nice little park in an isolated area on the banks of the Mississippi River. Not much to do but great for people with children. Like others have said, the connectivity is bad...no Verizon service to speak of. We camped at Columbus-Belmont State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

For Civil War buffs, the park is nice. There is a beautiful old cemetery across the road with a great walking path.

Paris Landing State Park, Buchanan, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

This could be a beautiful park if it was upgraded. I arrived and was assigned a site that was very un-level. They were very nice when I asked to move to a different site. I got hooked up just after the office closed, and my surge protector turned off the power due to an 'open ground' fault. In addition, the water hook-up was across the site in a very awkward spot that required me to put two hoses together to reach the RV. It was late and I was tired, so I moved down the road to another campground. We camped at Paris Landing State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The resort was closed for renovation. I appreciate that the state of Tennessee is upgrading a couple of their state park resorts this year. I hope they also upgrade their campgrounds as I have found some of them to be sub-par.

Fort Mountain State Park, Chatsworth, Georgia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park and everything others have said is accurate about the facilities. I was surprised that the premium sites have cable TV and that I could get a Verizon signal on my phone. Not terribly strong, but strong enough for intermittent Internet access, phone and text. I suggest you bring bear spray and/or noise makers as the bears are very active! We camped at Fort Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Trail of Tears State Park, Jackson, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet little park on the banks of the Mississippi River. Site #2 is very long, even though I did not have a toad. Only 18 sites in the riverfront campground. Some have full hookups and some only have electric. But water is available on-site, as is a dump station. Verizon coverage was excellent with a few OTA TV stations available. No cable or wi-fi. The train comes by a couple of times per night and it is LOUD, so if that bothers you, don't stay here. We camped at Trail of Tears State Park in a Motorhome.

Jacksonport State Park, Newport, Arkansas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park is a well-kept secret gem on the banks of the White River. We stayed on a Saturday evening and there were only two other campers in the park. There are about 10 sites facing the river and all have very good views. There is a swimming beach, boat ramp and picnic pavilion as well. Verizon service was great, and there were 3 OTA television channels. We camped at Jacksonport State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take what you need because the nearest grocery store is a few miles up the road in Newport. Jacksonport has an old court house turned into a museum and this is a great little town for bike riding.

Hernando Point - COE, Hernando, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This park is very nice and well maintained. My site was lake-front with a beautiful view. The park was easy to find and navigate. Verizon service was no problem. Hernando Point has swimming area, boat ramp, picnic areas and playgrounds. There are many sites that are 'walk-in' only but most are not directly lakeside. If you need a place to stop without a reservation you could probably get a site any time except a holiday weekend, and even then you could probably get a site if you arrived early. We camped at Hernando Point - COE in a Motorhome.

Village Creek State Park, Wynne, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park, and surprisingly empty for a mid-June weekend. Other reviews are accurate. There are great trails and two lakes. Our site was supposed to be 37' long, but I think it was more like 30', so if reserving a site, choose a slightly longer site than you normally would. We camped at Village Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

I just wanted to reiterate that there is NO CELL SERVICE in this park, even for those who have Verizon. You might get an occasional signal in some of the higher elevations in the park, but do not depend on it. The Verizon store in Wynne told us that they are building two additional towers in the area and that the signal might get better after they are built but that won't be until mid-2018.

Reelfoot Lake State Park, South Campground, Tiptonville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The campground was flooded due to recent rains and high lake level. Our original spot (#70) was under water. The camp host gave us an alternative site which turned out to be nice but only because the sites across from it were flooded and therefore empty. If the campground had not been flooded and had been full for the weekend, this site would have been very crowded. The electric and water are on opposite sides, so you can decide to back-in or pull-in depending upon which orientation you want. If I had pulled in the site, the picnic table and grill would have been on the 'proper' side of the MH, but the electric pedestal was also on that side. I decided to back-in, which some would consider 'backwards' but by doing so I had a nice view out of the passenger side of the MH. This park seems to be in the process of doing some upgrades on the old patio pads and picnic tables, which is sorely needed. We camped at Reelfoot Lake State Park, South Campground in a Motorhome.

Wall Doxey State Park, Holly Springs, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park. I had a reservation with late arrival. The park called me before closing to tell me that the site I had reserved was surrounded by a group of search and rescue people doing a weekend exercise. They told me that unless I just really wanted that particular site, I was welcome to choose another spot that was not reserved. There were plenty available and it was very nice that they called. I spent the first night in site 19 but the next day I moved to site 20. Much nicer with no one on the 'passenger' side of the camper. Great view of the woods. Quiet setting. We camped at Wall Doxey State Park in a Motorhome.

Paris Landing / Kentucky Lake KOA, Buchanan, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice staff. As stated earlier, some sites are 'built up' with gravel so there is a bit of a step-down when exiting the coach. Everything else good. Didn't use facilities; did use water, electric, sewer. All in good working order. We stayed here in order to have cable TV, but the connection was very bad, so it really wasn't worth choosing this campground just for that. We camped at Paris Landing / Kentucky Lake KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Nice place to stay near Paris Landing, but Paris Landing State Park is probably a better campground. As I said, we stayed here for the cable TV, which is not available at the state park, and I wish we had skipped that and stayed at the park.
