San Francisco RV Resort, Pacifica, California

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

At first sight, this looks like little more than a parking lot, with units packed tightly together. But this is San Francisco. Homes are packed just as tightly. This is not camping here, rather it is a place to comfortably stay in your RV, and either relax or enjoy the area. We were assigned a spot in the very front row, overlooking the ocean. There has been bluff erosion in the past, and fences are in place to prevent the stupid from falling over the edge. But the view is tremendous, with Drakes Bay visible go the North and Devil's Slide to the South. With the Farralones in the distance, one can watch the endless procession of ships as they enter and depart The Golden Gate. The park is clean, with adequate trash receptacles, doggie bag stations, laundry, nice restrooms, and a friendly staff. They have a nicely stocked camp store with many of those RV repair parts that only fail on the road. There is an incredible bakery nearby, fuel, hardware store, supermarket, butcher, and post office. Water, power, and waste utilities all worked as they should. Wi-fi isn't free, unless you are doing laundry. They have cable tv with HBO, and broadcast HDTV reception is good here. AT&T cell service was about 4 bars. Picnic tables are at some corner sites, and scattered throughout the park. We camped at San Francisco RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Try the bakery. Visit Devil's Slide trail. Visit Golden Gate Park. Check for museum "free admission" days. Visit the Cable Car Museum. San Francisco does not have to be expensive.

Mountain Valley RV Park, Tehachapi, California

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here on four separate occasions, each when transiting between Northern and Southern California. The location is lovely, at the base of the mountains, and on the edge of a glider airport. If walking your dog on the runway, be sure to watch out for aircraft, rabbit holes, and dog poop. The sites are level, nicely landscaped, and well-sized. Typically, it is a quiet location, a few miles from town, but still close enough. We camped at Mountain Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Gliderport has a nice little restaurant. Willow Springs-Tehachapi Road is a nice winding drive through the windmills, yet do-able in a motorhome.

AA Royal Motel & Campground, North Tonawanda, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

With a name like this, our expectations were not too high, nor were they exceeded. The site was level enough, the power was okay, the wifi worked, the water was okay. I did not feel comfortable leaving anything outside or unlocked. A couple of long-term units with their accompanying piles of junk. A high price, but probably in line for the area. We camped at AA Royal Motel & Campground in a Motorhome.

Waterloo Harbor Campground , Waterloo, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We were first directed to a space that had just been vacated by a seasonal renter. The Park obviously did not check the site as the sewer connection was broken and the power had a bad ground, shocking my wife when she touched the water pipe. Once we were moved to a better space, all was well. Nice staff. Good price.

The Harbor isn't much to speak of, as it was surrounded by long term renters, and well-weeded. Restrooms were spartan but functional. The area doesn't drain well when it rains, which it did. Walking to the restroom was a shoe-soaker. We camped at Waterloo Harbor Campground in a Motorhome.

Getaway Mountain Campground, Ascutney, Vermont

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

A complete difference from the other campground up the road. Lush greenery, nice roads, a pretty place. No restroom at our end, except for a porta pottie. No wifi except at the office, and that really doesn't count. Campgrounds need to grasp the concept of having high speed reliable internet service to all sites. If we really wanted to get away from it all, we'd be in a tent.

Nice family owners. We camped at Getaway Mountain Campground in a Motorhome.

Running Bear Camping Area, Ascutney, Vermont

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

To be fair, they were closed for the regular season, and they did allow us to stay, without water or restrooms. The site was level, with power. So, what is there to complain about? Besides being right by the interstate, the place was just unattractive. It is a large field with some trees at one end, and narrow, hilly, access roads. I would not want to be there in the busy season. It just didn't fit the image of Vermont. We camped at Running Bear Camping Area in a Motorhome.

Blackberry Crossing - WMNF, Conway, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

A very pretty campground with some historic significance. Our site was flat and level, with plenty of space. I find $35 a little pricey for no services, and it was close to the road. But with fall colors being at their height, it was beautiful. We camped at Blackberry Crossing - WMNF in a Motorhome.

Old Forge Camping Resort, Old Forge, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We came in on a Tuesday and it was wide open. They assigned us a great space one row from the lake. Level site, clean, 30A service, and near enough to the lodge to get decent network access. Nice crew working here. Nothing going on in town as the season is over. But so nice and quiet here. I would not want to be here on a weekend or during the regular season. We camped at Old Forge Camping Resort in a Motorhome.
