Temperate Zone RV Park, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Rate quoted was based on weekly rate. We paid additional for electric. Relatively small, basic campground without picnic table. Big sites with trees. Nice laundry room using honor system. Peaceful campground with great views of the mountains. Very friendly and helpful campground owner. The biggest drawback was the 1.8 mile washboard Perrin Road getting to the campground. We camped at Temperate Zone RV Park in a Motorhome.

Las Cruces KOA, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

The best thing about this campground was the view as it was on a hill overlooking the town with mountains in the distance. Our pull thru site was long and level but close to the campers on either side. We didn't have a picnic table although there were a group of them off to the side that were available. However, we wouldn't have had room for it on our site. The campground was very clean and staff raked every site with their tractor after campers departed. We camped at Las Cruces KOA in a Motorhome.

Carlsbad KOA, Carlsbad, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We reserved a big rig pull-thru for a 2 week stay and were assigned a buddy site where the picnic table and fire ring were at the door of the other "buddy." If I stayed again, I would request a non-buddy site because we would have liked to use the picnic table. (I left our grill on the ground and it was "watered" by the cats roaming the campground overnight.) The water was extremely hard, leaving a white powder residue in the shower and sinks. (We ended up buying a water softener.) We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.

Tucson / Lazydays KOA, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

The price was higher than we prefer but the campground was nice. It was quite large campground with sites that were long enough and wide enough. There seemed to be many seasonal campers. We wondered about safety of the location since the security gates were locked at 6:30 p.m. Amenities included two swimming pools, a fitness room, a mail room, and restaurant among other things. Sites included trees, some of which were grapefruit and lemon. One day they shut off the water for maintenance and I wouldn't have known if I hadn't seen the notice on the front desk. We camped at Tucson / Lazydays KOA in a Motorhome.

Marathon Motel and RV Park, Marathon, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 4 nights to see the local attractions, including Big Bend, Alpine, McDonald's Observatory, and the Marfa Lights. Long pull thru site with FHU. Windy & dusty but accept that as part of the location. Liked the campground, dark skies, and the view. However, the train crossing across the street, and loud whistle during the night (between 3-3:30 a.m.), every night, would make me hesitate to stay again. We camped at Marathon Motel and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Broke Mill RV Park, Del Rio, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a week. Broke Mill is a nice park with many amenities, including a pool and fitness room. The bathroom and shower were nicely appointed and very clean. In Fiddler's Hall there is a dinner and music on Thursday nights and Cowboy church on Sunday. They allow washing of motorhome and car at your site and our motorhome was appreciative. When we arrived, we had some trouble pulling into our site because of a sharp corner. I would have liked a picnic table at our site but there didn't appear to be any provided. The worst part, for us, was the highway noise from 90 but we would stay here again if we were in Del Rio. We camped at Broke Mill RV Park in a Motorhome.

We had a pull thru site relatively close to the office. Directly in front of us was the bike rental, air hose, walkway to the pond and pool. Everything was conveniently located. We camped at San Antonio KOA in a Motorhome.

Midway Park COE, Waco, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We only stayed one night driving through Waco to San Antonio. Our site was one of the pull thrus closest to the road and there was some road noise. The sites had picnic tables that were under cover. Between our GPS misdirecting us and road construction right outside the park arrival was somewhat challenging. We were an end site and getting out was a tight turn. However, this park was a great deal for the price. I would stay here again if driving through. We camped at Midway Park COE in a Motorhome.

North Shore Park, Bastrop, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at North Shore Park for two weeks, changing sites mid-stay. The camp host was not there when we arrived & office was only open Thursday through Sunday, which I assume is winter hours. However, we did not know that before we arrived and had to figure things out on our own. (The telephone number provided when making a reservation is for the South Park campground.) The 50 amp wasn't working on our pedestal and we had to report it at South Park but it was eventually fixed. The sites were not level and I now understand the reviews that said this park is good for practicing. - We did manage to find a somewhat level section of the site. This is a small campground and was very quiet when we were there. The day rate I listed includes the day use fee that is in addition to the reservation charge. We camped at North Shore Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You can receive mail while at this park but must use the South Park address and pick it up at South Park. When we were on site 60, there was a cardinal that seemed to think our motorhome was in his territory. He attacked our motorhome and car mirror from sun up to sun down. He didn't bother us when we moved to site 68.) However, at some point during our stay something (probably a squirrel) chewed through the wires for our tow dolly lights.

Baton Rouge KOA, Denham Springs, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 4 nights to visit the Baton Rouge area. Our pull through site was long enough but the sites were very close together. The back of the park seemed to have permanent residents but it was separate. Staff was helpful. The park was clean and well maintained. We camped at Baton Rouge KOA in a Motorhome.

Whispering Meadow RV Park, Westlake, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 6 days on our route west. The park manager was helpful and easy to work with. The park seemed to have mostly permanent residents but everything was well maintained. There was nice patio furniture at our site. We camped at Whispering Meadow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Matagorda Bay Nature Park, Matagorda, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Matagorda Bay for two weeks and enjoyed this campground for the remoteness and the quiet. It was nice being able to walk on the beach and to watch all the seabirds. We felt lucky to see roseate spoonbills while we were there. Staff was always helpful and the park was very clean. Not sure if it was just while we were there but the water was brown, coated our filters, and left sediment in the "house" filter base. We had to change all three (house, in-line, and Brita) filters when we left. We camped at Matagorda Bay Nature Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Because of the brown water we bought bottle water after the first day. Shopping (Bay City) was quite a distance but HEB and Walmart were well stocked. The campground is very open and and wind can be difficult at times. The rate I quote includes a per person day use fee that is charged at check-in. For full-timers, mail is only through general delivery at the Matagorda post office just before the bridge.

Southern Marsh RV Park, Cut Off, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a week trying to minimize overnight freezing temperatures during an unseasonable cold spell. We were toward the back of the park so even though it was near a main road and truck stop/casino, we didn't notice much noise. A few odd things, such as not getting a wifi code on check in. I think there must be a key to access the bathhouse & laundry because I couldn't get in. However, the staff was helpful and friendly so if I had needed either, I think it wouldn't have been a problem. The pads were gravel but the sites were spacious. There was no cable. There were cement patios but they did not have picnic tables. It seemed to have a mix of full-time and overnight sites. We camped at Southern Marsh RV Park in a Motorhome.

Grand Oaks Resort & Museum, Lady Lake, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a month while exploring the area. First two weeks in a pull thru with cement pad and the second one was grassy back in. From the pull-thru we could hear announcers starting at 7 a.m. on the event days. The back in was an end site so very spacious. The RV Park supports the equine activities .which we weren't involved with, but we watched part of some events. There was a nice pool with spa but neither were heated when we were there. We were told the heat was coming. The wifi had been damaged from the weather so was only available in the clubhouse when we were there. Overall, very nice campground but I would chose the back in option if I stayed again. We camped at Grand Oaks Resort & Museum in a Motorhome.

Pontchartrain Landing, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $71.00
Overall Rating:

With PA, our nightly rate would have been $39. We were here for a week, but the rate jumped significantly at the end because of New Year approaching. We ended up being charged as a mixed daily rate, which decreased the value for the stay. If Passport America could be used for the entire stay, the value would have been better for us. The sites were gravel. The staff was helpful when needed. There is a restaurant on-site with live music on some nights. The offer a shuttle to the French Quarter but it is also an easy drive if you don't need to park. We camped at Pontchartrain Landing in a Motorhome.
