Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison, Connecticut

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Very friendly place! Being a state park, you would expect trees, but there were none. However, there were nice vistas, including a pretty lake. We only stayed overnight and it was great for that. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Camp Bell Campground, Campbell, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Very comfortable once inside to your spot. There's a horseshoe club that meets there and the guys are really nice. The first row, which is all their seasonal folks and in the front of the park, kind of looks a little like skid row. Get past there and the place is fine. Conveniently located. We camped at Camp Bell Campground in a Motorhome.

Autumn Moon Campground, Middle Grove, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The main campground is a little sparse for vegetation. We stayed two nights and got to stay in the seasonal area (most of their seasonal guests had left for the winter), which was tucked away in the trees. Very nice hiking. Looks like there is a group area that can be used by a large group such as boy scouts. We felt very comfortable and safe at this park. We camped at Autumn Moon Campground in a Motorhome.

Heavenly Acres Campground, Stanardsville, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

When we checked in, we showed our Passport America card and were informed that they didn't have any PA spots available. There was no indication on the PA description that spaces were limited. However, he did give us a mild discount of some sort anyway. Maybe Good Sam or AAA? I get the impression that this is a one-man show. Not all was in the best of repair, but it looked as though he was working hard to, perhaps, catch up. The cabooses were a cool touch, but need sprucing up on the outside. We didn't go in any of them. The place was decked out for Halloween. They had a haunted trail to walk through. They do hayrides. Lots of trees! We camped at Heavenly Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed overnight. Got there after hours. Left fairly early next day. The park seemed nice. They had easy-to-use accommodations for after-hours arrivals. Lots of trees. We camped at Stony Brook Recreation and Camping in a Motorhome.

Whispering Winds Campground, Sheffield, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

One of our favorite campgrounds. Tucked in a valley. Set on a babbling brook. Great trails to hike. Camp store, pool, game room, picnic pavilion, horseshoes, volleyball, nice playground, long-term folks have clean, well kept units. No privacy between spaces, but the other campers are very friendly. Did I mention the babbling brook??

Activities within a 30 minute drive. We camped at Whispering Winds Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Warren is about 20 minutes away and nice to visit. Kinzua State Park is about 30 minutes away. Kane, about 5 minutes away, has some neat little shops and a good grocery store....and Bell's Meat and Produce. They make their own sausages in about a dozen varieties and every one is delicious!

Beaver Run RV Park, Metter, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

How could you not love this place? Just as we were finishing setting up, they deliver some warm, home-made chocolate chip cookies!

The spots were quite long and comfortably wide, but not very private. Most sites are nestled among a pine forest. The other campers there were very friendly. We camped at Beaver Run RV Park in a Motorhome.

Taps RV Park, Asheville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Very small spaces. On a busy street. Not terribly well maintained. However, if you can get a spot in the back row, there is a stream to enjoy looking at and the spots are longer, have concrete pads and have fire pits (but are still quite narrow). The gentleman who runs the place is very friendly. We only stayed one night and felt moderately safe. It is over-priced for what you get. Lower the price and I'd give a higher rating. We camped at Taps RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a gas station on one side of the park and a bank on the other. Family Dollar, Arby's, Zaxbys, a small grocery store and a local Italian restaurant are all across the street (but crossing on foot is tricky).

Utt's Campground, Fancy Gap, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park. Mostly pull-throughs. Most spots are in a large field and some are in a very lovely woods, which is certainly large enough to wander around in. I would say this place is more geared towards older folks, but there is no reason you can't bring children. We felt safe there. We camped at Utt's Campground in a Motorhome.
