City of Canton - Mississippi River Park, Canton, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We loved staying at this campground. Fascinating to watch the barges coming through the locks and even enjoyed the trains that some reviewers disliked. We would definitely stay here again if in this area. We camped at City of Canton - Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

Petit Jean State Park, Morrilton, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very popular state park which was booked solid on the weekend that we were passing through en-route to Hot Springs. ALL sites here are reservable, but was told there was an overflow area that offered electric & water but not sewer in an open field area. Took a chance & arrived at park at about 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon. We were able to occupy a site in Loop A with electric & water but it was next to the highway & the walking & biking trail. The highway closed daily at 10:00 pm so privacy was more of an issue than road noise. We did check out the overflow area & actually, it was pretty nice. It even offered a view of the lake that the campsites in Loops A-D did not offer. There are many Ranger programs available. We attended one in the evening about the owls in Jean Petit. BE SURE to make a point to visit the Petit Jean burial site to see breathtaking views of the valley below!!!! We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Motorhome.

Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground), Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Felt fortunate to find a creek side site here! Yes, spaces here are tight, close together & most are not level but park has just upgraded all sites to full hook up including sewer & auto pay system NOW accepts credit cards. Each site seems to have a grill OR fire pit, but not both. A wonderful mix of campers made our 2 night stay most interesting. Used the 1.4 mi. hiking trail into town since we travel in 26 ft. Class C without toad. Trail into town is well maintained, with moderate inclines. That said, only steep incline is just as you are entering town by the Fordyce Visitor Center. On the way home, there are stone stairs & a steep uphill climb on the trail that was a challenge for this 70-year old short legged lady! Just wish we could have lingered another couple of days here .... We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to tour the Fordyce Bath House. We did the self guided but there are park ranger guided tours at 11:00 am & 2:00 pm. Highly recommend the Superior Bath House Brewery lunches! Had great panini sandwich & tomato bisque soup! Best tomato soup I've ever, ever had!!
