Williamsburg, Outdoor World , Williamsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Very convenient location to Colonial Williamsburg and other nearby places of interest. VERY friendly and helpful staff. OK, now I'm done with the good stuff.

The first thing you see is an abandoned eyesore of a building, right at the entrance to the park. Broken windows, rotting wood, clearly falling apart. Perhaps it used to be the park office? It should be torn down.

Had to use a hard-to-hear intercom to get into the park, directions were to follow the painted arrows. Good luck with that, the arrows are pretty darn faded. Since it was just after dark, I was delighted when the staff helped us find and back into a space. Delight was now over.

1. There are NO level sites in this campground. 2. Most sites are uncomfortably close together, and the park feels very cramped. 3. 75% or more of all sites are taken by seasonal campers, more than I've ever seen in any Thousand Trails location. 4. Sewer hookup at our site had habit of backing up after a little more than 20 gallons of waste. Luckily what ran on the ground was grey water, not black. 5. Did not enter a bath house (none in our section of the park), but the ones we looked at were really in bad shape from the outside. 6. Other buildings (office & clubhouse) looked very shabby from outside, with wood that needs paint or replacement. 7. WIFI strong and fast, price was reasonable for a week. Did not use cable TV, although it was available.

This was the most disappointing Thousand Trails facility we've ever visited. We camped at Williamsburg, Outdoor World in a Travel Trailer.

Rondout Valley Resort Thousand Trails, Accord, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

We were greeted nicely on arrival, and given several choices of campsites. The park is clean and seems well cared for, park staff are very visible. Pool is great. Lots of weekend activities for guests. People around us were really nice. Speaking of guests, I have one comment: It's really obvious that they cater to seasonal campers; we are Thousand Trails members, and were treated very well, but this place is PACKED with seasonal campers, which means there are not a lot of full-hookup sites for short-term guests. On high-demand dates, you should probably not be surprised if you can't get a full-hookup site. We checked in on a Sunday afternoon - at most RV parks we've visited, the place will be nearly empty. Not here. We were told there were only about 5 full hookup sites available. (They do have a "honey wagon" that appears to make daily rounds, but I believe it's as much as $10 a day. Wonder if they charge for that if you reserved a full hookup site and one was not available!) It was not a problem, but to me this is an issue for Thousand Trails members. Now for the negative: The water tastes and smells bad, which may explain why so many of those seasonal campers around us had water filters hooked up. I'm sure it's tested and is OK, but the smell and taste of the water are NOT pleasant. I have 2 suggestions for visitors here. First, take a portable dump tank, just in case. Second, have a water filter system. There is $$$ WIFI, seems to have good coverage; didn't pay for it, so I can't evaluate it. Also $$$ cable TV; again, didn't use it. Do NOT expect to pick up OTA TV - there isn't any. We camped at Rondout Valley Resort Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Shady Oaks Campground and Cabins, Orland, Maine

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We can't say enough nice things about our stay. The manager/owners made us very welcome, and did their absolute best to help make our stay a delight. Park is clean and neat, not big, pet and family friendly. They guided us to our site and helped guide us while backing the trailer into our space. The location is quiet, central and fairly close to lots of great Maine attractions, including Bar Harbor/Acadia. This makes it nice for day trips to go exploring. One example - we stopped at the office to buy firewood. VERY reasonably priced, but most amazing, they delivered it to our site within 5 minutes! I've never had that happen before. We camped at Shady Oaks Campground and Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

Hershey RV & Camping Resort, Lebanon, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Always a delight to visit here - think we've been here 5 weeks in last 2 years. Sites are clean, level and well-maintained. Many sites have nice shade. Staff are great and go out of their way for you. Wish they had cable TV, because OTA TV can be really bad (not the park's fault). WIFI only in the rec center, and it's usually not very good. Pool is great. Great outdoor recreation amenities, like horseshoes, tennis courts, kids playground, lake with canoes. Nice planned activities. We camped at Hershey RV & Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Circle M-Outdoor World, Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $3.00
Overall Rating:

Staff were great, they go out of their way to help. This was our third stay here - unlike other Thousand Trails parks, we have yet to discover a site that does not require extreme leveling; noticed that almost all RVs around us needed extra leveling. Sites need gravel and maintenance, there were ruts and gullies that make it hard to position the trailer on the site AND reach the hookups. Frankly the only reason we have visited here is that it's close to home and convenient. The "junkyard" of stored RVs is an eyesore, and it's right on the main road so you can't miss it. Picnic tables are not maintained. Park buildings, like bath houses, look run down and even dilapidated. Cable TV is barely adequate for $3.95/day. Could not access WIFI, as it's only in the store and office area. Good activities for families, especially for Halloween. Have not tried the indoor pool, which is nice to have. Location is great, central and convenient to Lancaster PA tourist attractions - if only the park itself were better maintained. If it weren't for our Thousand Trails membership I wouldn't consider staying here. And I certainly would not pay their published daily rates. It's a shame, because this location has great potential. P.S. Entrance from the highway is TERRIBLE because it's located on a blind curve, but it's been like that since the place opened in the 1960's - watch out when you exit the park! We camped at Circle M-Outdoor World in a Travel Trailer.
