South Beach State Park, Newport, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

I will start by saying this is a nice park, but HUGE! We were placed about as far from the entrance as could be. What we did not know upon entering, there is only ONE trash site and it is in the entrance of the park. The other thing we were unaware of, you need to buy your firewood upon entering the park. Other parks we visited they would come around with it. Since it was close to a mile back to the entrance and we are elderly with limited walking, we could not go back once the MH is set up. Luckily I flagged down some nice park workers and they sent out a ranger and he went and got our firewood for us. Then after 3 days we decided to rent a car to be able to see the local sites. First night another employee knocks on our door at 8:30 and needs to collect an additional $7.00 for the extra (?) car. Had we towed the car in, there would not of been a charge. Does this make ANY sense? We were told to address it with higher ups, they could not help us. I have since done this, to no avail. It's an old rule on the Oregon books to discourage others from joining you once you enter the park. I get that, but our rental car did not take up any additional space and there was only 2 of us the whole time! Does not seem fair. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Humbug Mountain State Park, Port Orford, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

It was a very nice park with the exception that our site was VERY close to the road and the next campers. Our "area" and the neighbors "area" over lapped. Luckily our dog and theirs, as well as ourselves all got along. VERY close to the road also. At night it wasn't too noisy. Our first Oregon trip, would probably pass on this one next time or be sure to get a spot OFF the road. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.
