Cross Winds Family Campground, Linwood, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nice quiet park even though it's just off highway 85. Interior roads are mainly gravel but wide. Many pull through sites. Site are large width and length wise. Fire pits, picnic tables, open air and tree covered sites. Has a catch and release fish pond (no swimming). Small in ground pool. We camped at Cross Winds Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Good for a one night stop. There are other parks in the area with much better accommodations. Beware of the train noise. They run long and loud. We camped at Benson KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Second time here. This time it is a pull thru and is great. Large enough for our 40ft and truck without disconnecting if we chose to. Lots to do in the area (which we did much last stay). This time visited "Natural Bridge Caves. Nice attraction with other things to do within and next door. We camped at Travelers World RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Lost River RV Park, Baytown, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

There are two sections in this park. If you book, make sure you stay in the new section. It has very wide roads, large sites, open sky. Only problem here is the highway noise, a whine from trucks and cars can be annoying. Our site was a pull thru, but I think it was the only one there. You won't have trouble backing in these site though because they're huge. We camped at Lost River RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Our second stay here. Easy access from I-10. Great rec areas. Sites are big enough for our 40ft 5er. Like most parks there seems to be an area with permanent campers. Usually toward the back and not well kept. But the areas for transients area great. We camped at Baton Rouge KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Sarasota Bay RV Park (55+ park), Bradenton, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Planned to stay 3 nights but enjoyed the weather and location so much we extended for 3 weeks. Most of the traveling RV sites are near the main road ( 10777 Cortez Rd W, Bradenton, FL ) but the road noise wasn't a problem. The park has limited traveler's spaces as most lots have been converted to permanent over the years. It has a beautiful waterfront road with seating areas that offer great sunset viewings.

The location is great if you like beaching, shopping and eating. Anna Maria Island has beautiful beaches with large free parking areas, bath houses and a food shack all within Coquina Beach just a three mile drive away. lots of water related things to do like parasailing, fishing, rental toys etc. Park potable water had very good pressure and excellent quality. We used our satellite antenna so not having cable wasn't an issue. We camped at Sarasota Bay RV Park (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Larry & Penny Thompson Park & Campground, Miami, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice place. Close to many attractions. Zoo and (water park - seasonal) nearby although we didn't have time to visit them.

Park is setup in 11 pods with 14 to 20 back-in sites around the edges and 2 pods with 5 pull thru site each. Stayed for a week but could have stayed longer. Maybe next time. We camped at Larry & Penny Thompson Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't let them put you in a handicap site ( I think these are the pull through sites ). I don't need a handicap site but when you ask for a pull through, you may get one of these. All the pull thru sites seem to be curved like a banana, making them a little weird. All the back in sites are large enough that even I could back in. And they are much more private and have more room to park extra vehicle.

Beautiful area. Plenty of shopping and water sports available. Close to cruise ship docks so you can watch large ships come and go.

Large state park play ground and picnic area next door but no one was there during our stay. Beach is walking distance and has restrooms, snack bar, inside eating and life guards on duty. Beach is white (sugar sand). Kennedy Space Center 12 mile area. Good for all day trip.
