Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort, Charlotte, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $72.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Carowinds Camp Wilderness so we could visit SCarowinds (Halloween-themed setup). The campground is easy to get to off of I-77 but you will have to contend with some traffic during their busy times. The campground is clean and laid out well. It has easy access to the amusement park. The facilities looked great but we didn't have a need to use them. As nice as this campground is, the best part was the staff. They were extremely helpful with everything. They even allowed for an extended checkout on Sunday as we had to go to a wedding in Lenior. We'll definitely be back for a long weekend when we can enjoy the park more. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first stay at a KOA. We stayed here for a softball tournament at the new Shipyard Park right up Hwy 41 (12 minutes away). We needed a late check-in Friday night but they were very accommodating and had all necessary information out for us. Despite the time, they even came out to show us to our site specifically. Our site was very level albeit a bit short for my TV/TT combo but we did fit. You can tell all of the rain the Low Country is receiving right now is making it difficult for them to keep the grounds maintained and roads in decent shape. (Grass needed to be cut and roads were pretty muddy but they can't help with weather.) The have tons to do with basketball, swimming pool, fishing pond, boat rentals, etc. They also have ICE, Propane, and a camp store that seemed to have a good variety of items. They also allowed a late check-out on Sunday afternoon for a small fee. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Conveniently located to many great areas in Charleston/Mt. Pleasant. Try out Red's on Shem Creek or Page's Okra Grill for great eats. New Shipyard Park in less than 15 minutes away so it's great for the softball/baseball travel crowd.

Rutledge Lake RV Park, Fletcher, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We really wanted to like this park. It's convenient to Asheville/Hendersonville/Brevard. The park layout is tight but manageable. The sites were fairly close but that's expected in the mountains. Our site was gravel and pretty level with shade trees. The sewer connection was clean and accessible from entire site with screw-in cover. The pool area was clean and my kids enjoyed it. All of the facilities looked nice and well-maintained. It's a quaint park that really reminded us of a summer camp for kids. Unfortunately, this campground is anything but camper friendly. We requested a late check-in ahead of time and were charged a $20 late check-in fee (which was advertised). Upon arrival a staff member took us to our site and insisted on guiding me backing into the site (my wife and I are very efficient at this and do not need ANY help). It was fine other than him being a complete jerk about it when giving me "directions" on how to back. Even my 11 y/0 daughter asked why he was so angry. We moved past that though. The next day we asked if they could accommodate another night and they said they could but we'd have to move (which is a pet-peeve of mine) because someone else was coming in on our departure date. This was confusing to me as they told us they didn't assign site numbers until arrival and they admittedly had multiple sites open for us to "move" to. We didn't understand why they could place the new arrivals there. Regardless, we declined and chose to leave on our normally scheduled date. The coup-de-gras was our softball schedule got re-arranged the last day and I needed to late check by 1.5 hours. One lady said that was fine and another rode to our site and, as we were pulling out of the site, STOPPED US TO TELL US WE HAD TO PAY A LATE CHECK-OUT FEE (that is not advertised). Very unfortunate. This could be a really GREAT park if it wasn't for the way they run it. We won't return and won't recommend to anyone just because of the folks that run it. We camped at Rutledge Lake RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Big Oak RV Park, Tallahassee, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a softball tournament in Tallahassee so we didn't spend a lot of time at the campground. We did get to see some impressively large Live Oaks (hence the name) and a nice common space to enjoy them. The campground is clean and well maintained. The sites are adequate in length but are very small in width. We had just enough room to open our awning. They seemed to pack the campground (even the two overflow sites at the office) every night we were there. Hookups were easily accessible and well maintained. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. We camped at Big Oak RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Visiting any of the FSU sports facilities is worth the effort. The Chief Osceola "Unconquered" statue is awesome. All of their facilities are impressive. The capital grounds are also worth the time. We were very impressed with the Tallahassee area.

GSP RV Park, Greer, South Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nice little park next to several industrial facilities. Very friendly, helpful staff. Our site was fairly unlevel front-to-back and we had to raise our tongue pretty substantially to level our RV. The traffic flow diagram provided was almost backward as there was no way we could back into this corner site from the direction we were instructed to take. No big deal however, we just looped around and came from the other direction and were able to tuck it right in. Appeared to be a high number of regulars based on RV setups we were seeing. Our neighbors were extremely friendly and even checked on our dog for us while we were at the ball park. Overall value wasn't what we were used to getting for this rate but we weren't dissatisfied at our stay. We camped at GSP RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here to attend a softball tournament in NMB which is often the case for us. Unfortunately, we didn't get to visit too many of the facilities as a result. My daughter did use the bathroom/shower facility nearest our site and it was in very good condition. The park is rather large and the sites are rather small. The park was full but relatively quiet. The hookups were all clean, well-maintained, and functioning properly. The campground as a whole was clean and well-maintained. They were not very flexible with late checkout or partial-day stays. We camped at Myrtle Beach Travel Park in a Travel Trailer.

Campfire Lodgings, Asheville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first camping trip to the mountains. This place was absolutely fantastic. It is tucked away conveniently to Asheville/Weaverville and has absolutely breathtaking views of the French Broad River and surrounding valley. The entrance road is a bit tight but manageable by at least 40'+ rigs. The entire RV campground is very well landscaped and maintained which added a little privacy between the otherwise close premium sites. It has a grassy picnic area and common viewing area that overlooks the valley and river for all campers to enjoy. All facilities functioned as described. The WIFI was adequate for standard browsing. We did not use the bath house. The staff were fantastic and went out of their way to accommodate. It is in close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Asheville. We are already looking forward to returning here in the near future. We camped at Campfire Lodgings in a Travel Trailer.

Myrtle Beach State Park, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Two words describe this park best: large and busy! Unfortunately, we stayed here for quite possibly the "wettest" week in the history of vacations. It rained ALL day, EVERYDAY! Because very few people were on the beach, the park seemed over-crowded. Despite that, things went as well as could be expected. Check in was quick and easy. We were on the back loop in the woods and did NOT experience any flooding. The roads were a tad tight in certain spots but I believe that was from all of the people. The dump station was convenient to the exit and had multiple hookups for people to use so the wait wasn't too long. The camp store and gift shop at the pier were nice and sufficiently supplied. Beach access was convenient at the entrance to the campground. This park really has a ton of things to offer outside of just camping. I am sure we would have enjoyed it much more with more favorable weather to experience everything. We will definitely be back and will update my review then. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

New Green Acres RV Park , Walterboro, South Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park needs A LOT of attention. The grounds were UN-kept and most of the facilities we saw were dated and/or dilapidated. We had a late check-in scheduled and the site was paid for in advance. Upon arrival, someone was on our site (apparently that is a recurring problem here) and we had to drive around until we found another site with the service & facilities that we already purchased. Nobody would answer the phone and there was not an after hours number posted. We also had issues with the hook-ups not having breakers, cable quality, and sewer had debris (dirt/pine straw) in it. The one positive was that the staff was helpful and accommodating when I spoke with them. We probably will not stay here again unless there is no closer alternative for a specific need. We camped at New Green Acres RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

They get it right. Beautiful grounds, spacious lots, well-maintained, excellent customer service. We didn't get to use any of the amenities as we were stayed there for a travel softball tournament. The staff was extremely accommodating of our crazy schedule (late arrival Friday night, early departure Saturday & Sunday mornings to ball fields, late-departure,etc.) We have already booked 2 buddy sites for a future tournament. Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

This park is great! It is clean, well-maintained, and quiet. The roads are spacious enough to navigate comfortably, even when the campground is at capacity. The lot we stayed on backed up to the woods and was very spacious. The WiFi is not great; nor is Verizon cellular coverage. The bath houses were nice and clean. The only drawback worth noting is the single, two-lane rd in and out of the campground. Traffic backs up QUICK waiting on the dump stations within 2 hours of check-out time on a busy weekend. Overall, LOVED IT! We will definitely stay here again in the future. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Campground is convenient to Hwy(s) 22/31 & 17 so the entire Grand Strand is accessible. It is tucked away in the middle of the NMB area so you have to pull through some congested traffic at times to get to it. NOTE: When approaching from 17 on Lake Arrowhead Rd, take the "not-very-well marked" corner entrance at the intersection of Kings Rd and Lake Arrowhead Rd. It makes it A LOT easier to get your RV into the park. Hope this helps.

Ocean Lakes Family Campground, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed during Halloween weekend. We had a fantastic time but it was PACKED. You have to expect that at Ocean Lakes just about any time of year though. The staff were all extremely helpful and golf cart permits were easy to obtain. The roads are NARROW and our friends actually had their TV (tow vehicle) side-swiped by someone trying to pull a travel trailer into an adjacent site.
