Sowell Creek COE, Dublin, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

Very quiet; only three other campers in the park. Although fishing was lousy, was able to finish a few books and relax. No wifi due to no Verizon. Our campsite would have been crowded if the adjacent ones had been occupied, but other sites at the other end of the park are spread out. The site was level but parking was downhill, so had to disconnect the truck. The park is very large but most is closed off at this time of year. We camped at Sowell Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Canyon, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 6 nights over the Easter weekend and the park was full of campers and day users for 4 days driving up and down the roads. We experienced two storms; one with hail and a tornado warning. The trails are wonderful if you like to hike, bike, or even bring a horse (there is a special equestrian campsite). The scenery is beautiful with added wildlife makes it a true camping experience (even crossing paths with a rattlesnake). The only downside was a minor issue with the campsite. Where the camper sat was great having a large open area on one side; however, the covered picnic table placement was not very useable. It was placed behind the neighbors camper, so we setup our chairs on a small hill at the back of our camper. Great outlook providing exceptional views. A great park with a lot of history. We camped at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE, Ennis, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

Because it was the beginning of spring break, the park was full. Not knowing beforehand, we rented a site that probably better suited for tent camping. The site was a tight fit for our small 5th-wheel; however, very close to the water and could park our boat close to the campsite. The site was not level due to slope toward water. For unknown reason, the electric did not work with the surge protector; however, the park host was very nice in helping us find that was the reason for no electric. The bluebonnets were everywhere and the fishing was good! We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Cedar Breaks Park COE, Georgetown, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

We like Corp of Engineer parks due to our discount and the camping experience. The sites were roomy but the road was very narrow. Access to the lake was limited due the rock ledges; however the views were beautiful. This park is situated along the 26 mile hiking trail around the Georgetown Lake which provided more to do than just fish and read. The only negative was a street light that kept turning off and on all night (the light was at a curve in the road). If we camp here again, will definitely choose a site away from bright lights. We camped at Cedar Breaks Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

San Luis Pass County Park, Freeport, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Visited during the Christmas holidays so not a lot of campers, making for a better experience. It seems during the busy season the campers would be too close but we had a lot of space and was even able to keep our boat close by...something you cannot do during the summer. It was a pull-through site but appears to be two former individual sites that were converted to a pull-through. Lots of places to fish and close to Galveston for day-tripping. We camped at San Luis Pass County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cedron Creek COE, Whitney, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Great view of the lake where we were able to tie the boat close to the campsite. Very quiet for deer watching. It is a CoE campground so not a lot to do other than walk the park, fish, and read; which is just what we like to do. The campsite flooded in the spring which may have contributed to the site surface being unlevel and although a pull-through it was not as long as other parks. Overall, an enjoyable long weekend! We camped at Cedron Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Copperas Creek COE, Comanche, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a week at a full-hookup site. It was a back-in with a great view of the lake. Since we take our boat, we were able to tie the boat close to the campsite. The campsites are very roomy. The only negative was the grass burs. Our dog was not able to walk anywhere on the grass so had to only walk on the road. Lots of deer roaming the park. It was a very relaxing week for those who like to fish and read. We camped at Copperas Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.
