Homosassa River RV Resort (formerly Turtle Creek), Homosassa Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a week in a 40' 5th wheel toyhauler at site A3 across from the water pond/culvert. Name is somewhat misleading as it is down the street from the river but there is no river access here. Our site across from office was probably one of the better ones for a large rig. Pull-thru. Narrow and right next to neighbor but very long (at least 100 feet). Wifi was crappy Tengo internet but could perform basic tasks. I paid to upgrade of $15 for a week of better internet and it didn't work at all, so don't bother. Got good cable tv. Laundry facility is excellent, pricey but very, very nice with lots of washers and dryers and extremely clean. The park itself is very clean. Mostly seasonals but at least 20 (maybe more) overnighter spaces. Nicely paved roads to navigate within park with no obstacles. Lots of activities and good looking pool (didn't use). The best of this park, for me, as the location. Old Homosassa right down the road. About two miles to launch kayaks on Homosassa River. About 25 minutes to Three Sisters Spring and Crystal river. Lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. We camped at Homosassa River RV Resort (formerly Turtle Creek) in a Fifth Wheel.

Suwannee River Bend RV Park, Old Town, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here ina 40' 5th wheel toyhauler at site #3 along the water (canal leading to Suwannee River). A bit challenging to navigate to site with low trees but definitely doable. Most campers were permanent and smaller. Place is very basic and old but clean and quiet. Didn't use bathhouse or laundry but it looked clean. We camped at Suwannee River Bend RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hitchin Post Corral and Campground, Cottondale, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Owners are fantastic. Make you feel very welcome. Easy in and out park with large sites. Wifi is amazing. Had site #6 which was rather private with blooming wisteria everywhere. Enjoyed fishing pond and dog enclosures. Good amount of road noise from I10. Ran fans to make it a non-issue. Only two issues: Hard packed sand/dirt sites still track a lot of sand into rv and somewhat hard to level. Bringing in some gravel would really help this issue. Larger issue is I felt $40 a nite was too expensive. No laundry or bathhouses which is fine but I would have expected about 30/nite for a small campground alongside I10. Those are only issues. This really is a great campground! We camped at Hitchin Post Corral and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fairview Riverside State Park, Madisonville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice and well kept state park and is very popular so it might be difficult to get into during peak times. There's two camping areas, the larger main area closer to the entrance and the riverfront/riverside area in the back. We stayed in site 38 near one of the bathhouses in the main area. We reserved site 44 but upon arriving we discovered we couldn't back into it due to the narrow street separating the sites, and the large tree on the front corner which made it impossible to even jackknife into it. Obviously the main campground is probably older and the layout was designed for smaller rigs. The back sites nearer to the river are larger and more spacious, and we admired site 70 which we felt to be the best site back there if you can snag it. There's 30/50 amp power and water at each site and dump stations are distributed throughout the park. WiFi was typical for state parks (mostly non-working) and there is a laundry at the bathhouses for FREE. Good luck as some washers/dryers weren't working and people seem to save up months of laundry before going there. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Burns Point Boat Launch & Rv Campground, Franklin, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Great off-the-beaten path small campground and park. Lots of fisherman here. About 20 campsites. No reservations. Right on the Gulf. Low key. No wifi and little tv reception. Instead look at the water, fish and visit with friendly camp hosts and other travelers. No issue getting there and putting our 40' toyhauler in a campsite. $14 a nite. Quiet and clean. Kemper Williams Park, Patterson, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Patterson, Louisana - Kemper Williams Park This public park right off Highway 90 and 182 has a nice campground plus baseball fields, a museum, golf course, tennis courts and more. It has about 40 full hook-up sites and many many rally style w/e sites as it located behind the civic center. We stayed in site A1 for a week with 50amp power. Close to very clean bathhouse and laundry room (2 washers and dryers). Trees in the "A" loop. The "B" side is open and gravel. No problem navigating with our 40' toyhauler. Wifi was excellent. This may be first time I've ever said that about an RV park. OTA TV minimal. Raccoons present and much signage about bears. Lots of areas to walk dogs. Quiet and mostly empty campground. Some train noise. Great price as $25/nite weekly rate (no discounts). Loved watching junior high baseball games and visiting small museum onsite. Extremely nice office staff. We camped at Kemper Williams Park in a Fifth Wheel.

CAUTION: DO NOT use Cotten Road entrance if your rig is low profile (our 3 axle toyhauler sits very close to the ground). The railroad track is severely humped. Instead use Silo Road (call park office 10-15 minutes before you arrive and they will open the locked gates for you).

Cypress Bayou Casino and RV Park, Charenton, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This nicely landscaped and clean property has a RV park, casino (with 4 restaurants), hotel, grocery store, convenience store and fuel station (with diesel). Stayed 4 nites in February 2017. $15 a nite during week and $22 a nite on Friday and Saturday. RV park has about 20 sites including several pull thrus. Big rig friendly. Concrete even pads with a new picnic table and trash can on each large concrete pad. Full hookups. Cable tv. No wifi but they were almost finished installing one when we were there. LTE cell phone signal. Immaculately clean with security guards constantly touring. Bright lights make nighttime seem like day, great for safety and walking dogs but could tone it down a bit. Plenty of grassy areas to walk dogs. Very quiet. Park next door. Shuttle service from your camp site to casino. This property was a joy to stay at. What an amazing find for such good value! We camped at Cypress Bayou Casino and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fontainebleau State Park, Mandeville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent price and the location is awesome for lakefront sunsets and to visit NOLA. I would rate this a 9 or 10 for state park but a 5 or 6 for campground. Beautiful park with wonderful foliage and wildlife. Wifi usable at times and good over the air TV stations.

Arrived after park office closed and didn't understand that our site as stated in email was CI080 actually meant site 80. Also poor signage meant we navigated tight interior roads when we didn't need too. So be careful as this campground can be a challenge for big rigs.

Our site 80 was back up to woods which was good. Plenty of room, just not long ago enough for 40' toyhauler and tow dually. Ground around site all dug up for no reason. The laundry facilities are terrible. Use laundromat in town. The bathhouse was often out of toilet paper but usually clean. The showers were awful. Prisons probably have better showers. Nowhere to hang or place clothes or shower items. Push button shower had to press 3 times for quick shower. Standing water everywhere. Yoga required to balance getting back into clothes. Gross shower curtain. Ick. If site had sewer I would never use bathhouse. If park would spend just a little money and labor could make facilities usable quite easily. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Davis Bayou Campground, Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Great value and good location. Secluded and quiet but good shopping and sites within 5-10 miles. Small campground with active camp host. Excellent showers. Clean! Clean bathrooms. Very appreciated. Lots of space to walk and bike in the park. No wifi but good over the air tv. The sites themselves are only drawback. Too narrow and short for our 40' toyhauler and tow dually to fit. Dirt around narrow asphalt pad that I couldn't keep out of rv. Other than that. Great small basic clean and safe campground. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Natural beauty and serenity make this an excellent state park. Good facilities and amenities for a state park. Especially the laundry room. Easy in and out. Easy to navigate interior roads with good signage. Wifi terrible. Cable tv great. Site not quite big enough for our 40' toyhauler and tow vehicle. Clean site with great foliage and gravel pad. Excellent walking and biking park. Stay in sites 101-167 in new loop. Nice little ponds and seating areas around the park. Very enjoyable. Just too pricey. Nature's Resort RV Park, Homosassa, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Pros: Wifi that mostly worked (overnight/weekly guests get one wifi while the long term residents get a different one), good cable tv, doggie cleanup stations, clean park, nice camp store, nice people, and a good location to local sights and shopping/restaurants. Cons: Putting a 4-day guest with a 40' toyhauler at the very back of this BIG trailer park meant having to navigate tight roads jammed packed up with people, trailers and vehicles to get to a dirt parking lot with no possible view of water or a tree to back into a slot where you are surrounded on both sides and your back to neighbors that as soon as you put out your slides you can touch each other. A big dirt parking lot. No privacy on your site. A small picnic table only. Only way to get a view of the water is to walk over to the marina. Tried to visit the marina pub thinking that would be nice to look at the water while having a beverage. Nope. Filled with smoke, dirty tables and blasting music. I've never seen so many people and trailers jammed into a trailer park before. It was definitely not relaxing or enjoyable. Most people are residents and looks like they have lots of nice activities but as a short term guest visiting the local sights we didn't partake of those. We camped at Nature's Resort RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

alert for all of 2017 there is construction on the bridge leading to this trailer park so you will be waiting for a good while coming and going to the park. I do not recommend this park for trailers over 35 feet (they put big rigs at the back of the park in loop F) or anyone who wants nature (unless you pay extra for water front site which are too small for big rigs).

Altamaha Regional Park, Brunswick, Georgia

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

No security or rule adherence enforced. Maintenance and cleanliness are not done. Sites had trash and many cigarette butts. Quiet hours not observed on weekends. Didn't feel entirely comfortable leaving rig for the day. Difficult to take dogs out as many people crammed into each camp site with loose dogs during the weekend. Nowhere to go with them. 15 miles from any stores or restaurants. Large mostly level sites but are close together. No privacy. WiFi bad. Lots of outsiders coming and going all hours of day and nite using laundry room, bathhouse and dumpsters. Staff very friendly but lackadaisical. Water and air have a slight odor. Basically a free-for-all fish camp. We camped at Altamaha Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The road into the campground (Altahama Park Road) from Rt. 341 has a severely humped Railroad crossing soon after you turn onto it. Our 40' toyhauler RV has low ground clearance and we scraped going over it. Higher clearance rigs may not have a problem. If you are low ground clearance like us, I suggest you enter on Burnt Island Road to Old Jesup Road to the park road, which is about a mile Southeast of Altahama Park Road if you are coming from I-95 or Brunswick.

Overall Rating:

Quiet, safe, clean and friendly older campground. Road noise as on Route 17. Clean and homey restrooms/showers. 3 outside washers/dryers - all working. Cable TV and WIFI were pretty bad. Site was very long but quite narrow. Small pool by the road I didn't use. Staff upon check-in didn't provide any information and couldn't use credit card machine. But other than that all staff friendly. Campers/residents friendly. Mix of older travel trailers and permanent residents. Thought $38 a night (incl. tax) was a bit pricey for this basic campground. Not much in close by towns. A few grocery stores and one or two restaurants. About 45 minutes from Flagler and Ormond beaches. Campground easy to get in and out of but it is terraced and the higher/further you go in is quite tight not suitable for larger rigs (40 ft and over). We had a site by the entrance so no problems.
