Hidden Valley RV Resort, Tijeras, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Was leery staying here after reading the last review... but it wasn't as bad for us as it was for the previous reviewer. The sites are definitely narrow - unless, like us, you get a double site. Ask for sites 19, 21, or 43 to get a wider space. Getting one of those, we'd stay here for a few days. Getting any other site, it'd be okay for a day. The one awkward thing is that some sites share water spigots; our water came from the right side of the site (not with the electric and sewer). There is a little hiking trail which is well marked but pretty short. There is also a nature trail that isn't marked at all and we couldn't figure it out. The pool and club house were clean. The laundry had 4 washers and dryers (although one dryer was broken) and was not that dirty. The roads were a bit bumpy; but nothing worse than some of the Thousand Trails campgrounds we've been in. Lastly, you can hear road noise from the nearby highways IF you listen for it. We camped at Hidden Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Oasis State Park, Portales, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has wide open spaces visible with not a lot of hiking available. There are some trails through some sand dunes between/near the different campground loops. The sites have nice covered picnic table areas on concrete slabs along with a grill at each site. There is a nice stocked pond on site that has catfish in the summer and trout in the winter. The only wildlife seen here are a few scaled quail and rabbits. The only downside is that the dump station is "under construction." The campground reservation verification email says it's been this way since 2016. If you click on the "Announcements" link, it says it's been this ways since at least March 2017. Make sure your tanks are empty before you get here. We camped at Oasis State Park in a Motorhome.

Caprock Canyons State Park, Quitaque, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Great park! Lots of trails to hike... enjoyed our bike ride out to an old train tunnel. Didn't see any bats though... Lots of wild animals... saw the bison, coyotes, prairie dogs, and a road runner. The sandwich shop near the entrance makes really good sandwiches! The only negative is the large number of sand burrs (stickers) that get in the dog's feet. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Richardson State Historical Park, Jacksboro, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

As long as you have the Texas State Park pass you don't have to pay the day use fees (which are per person). You also get a little bit of a discount on your 2nd night camping (up to 4 times a year). We like parks with hiking/biking trails and this park fit the bill. A few short walking trails and one 9 mile biking/hiking trail. Only 4 sites have sewer so pick carefully (those sites were full when we were there). This park is bordered by wind farms so you know its going to be windy. No sweat though if you camp in sites 13-22. Those are down by the creek in a ravine so the wind blows over head. We were in site 21 and liked it alot - although it was unlevel enough so that I had to put about 5 inches of blocks under our wheels to get level. This is a state historic park which has the remains of a military fort from the 1860s. Unfortunately, there is no interpreter or guide that takes you through the remaining buildings even though a guided tour is advertised. You can get a brochure, however, and look through the windows... a major downer for me. We camped at Fort Richardson State Historical Park in a Motorhome.

Martin Creek Lake State Park, Tatum, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Loved this park! During our stay (in the middle of the week) it was very quiet from the perspective of other campers. We also enjoyed the few miles of walking (biking) trails. However, because it's a state park that sees lots of traffic during the weekend, it does have places that need cleaning (mostly near the shores of the lake near the island). An interesting thing about this campground is that there is a power plant across the lake which has a continual humming (machinery) noise coming from it. For us it was basically white noise that actually helped us sleep. Also, there is occasional train noise coming from the plant. Honestly though, this did NOT distract from our enjoyment of this park. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

North Shore Landing, Emory, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Really liked this park. It has a laundry room along with a fishing pond (which seems odd since it borders a lake). Lots of space to play around in (even has a 3 hole frisbee golf course). The sites are kinda close together; but it isn't noisy. Some sites seems to be permanent residents - but doesn't look trashy like some places we've been. We camped at North Shore Landing in a Motorhome.

Thousand Trails / Lake Texoma, Gordonville, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park - one of the best of the Thousand Trails system that we've stayed in! The roads could be improved; but the fact that they aren't keeps the speed down. So maybe they shouldn't be improved. We camped at Thousand Trails / Lake Texoma in a Motorhome.

Thousand Trails Lake Whitney, Whitney, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $4.00
Overall Rating:

If you are a Thousand Trails member, the fee is $4/night for 30amp and $7/night for 50amp service. Not all sites have sewer so choose your site carefully. We were there before the peak season and it was GREAT! It seemed we had the park to ourselves almost due to the way the sites are laid out and the amount of trees in and around the sites. There were lots of walking trails in the park as well! We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Lake Conroe / Thousand Trails, Willis, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

Loved the resort... nice to see a Thousand Trails that is kept up (looks like what I expect they looked like back in the day). The sites were very narrow in our section (section F) however. Not liking the fact that they charge extra for a 50amp service and wouldn't let us stay in a 30amp spot. We camped at Lake Conroe / Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Thousand Trails / Medina Lake, Lakehills, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $4.00
Overall Rating:

As with most Thousand Trails campgrounds - the facilities are a bit dated. Also, during our stay, the lake is really low (the docks are sitting on ground instead of floating). Having said all that - this is one of the best Thousand Trails we've stayed in during the last year. Truly love all the deer just wandering around (some even eat corn out of our hands). We camped at Thousand Trails / Medina Lake in a Motorhome.

Seminole Canyon State Park, Comstock, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Great park with a bit of hiking and biking available. It is far from any resources; so make sure you have everything before you get here. Each morning we saw a few deer while walking. Everything was great about the campground except the fact that they don't have Verizon service and the available WiFi was extremely poor for our use. We camped at Seminole Canyon State Park in a Motorhome.

Marathon Motel and RV Park, Marathon, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Great place to stay. We really loved the amateur astronomy that was provided on site. There is a single washer/dryer setup for $3/load. The sites were very long and very narrow. The highway was nearby but no major traffic was heard. There was also railroad tracks close, but I never really noticed any noise (but I know there had to be). We camped at Marathon Motel and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Oasis RV Park, Van Horn, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Quirky RV park between the interstate and train tracks that is dated. However the, Jack of all Trades, owners were friendly. Wouldn't stay here for a long time; but for an overnight this is a good place! Narrow spaces that weren't quite long enough for the RV and car. The picnic tables were falling apart. There is free WiFi that we could connect to; however, it wasn't a good enough connection to be useful on the Internet. We were there on a Saturday, so we did the "Church by the pool" that evening and then had some of their homemade ice cream. We camped at Oasis RV Park in a Motorhome.

Percha Dam State Park, Arrey, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

With our NM State Park pass ($100) we are able to stay at the parks with no hookups for free (I couldn't put $0 or Free in the cost field). So, if boondocking is your thing - that's the way to go. Several campers up on the loop using electricity; but only one other camper boondocking with us... The boondocking sites are closer to the Rio Grande which really isn't all that grand right now. Our only complaint are the GOAT HEADS (Bindii Thorns)! OMG... they're everywhere. Be prepared to carry your dog in places... Can't walk 2 steps outside the RV without getting a bunch of them in your shoe. We camped at Percha Dam State Park in a Motorhome.
