Boulder Recreation Area Campground COE, Carlyle, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

There are no major downsides to this campground... some things are beyond the campground's control and are mentioned in other reviews: -- lots of gnats. -- long narrow roads to get here when coming from the north. -- some sites would be difficult to get level in with motorhome. The cleanliness of the bathrooms is great (I've seen a cleaning lady here every morning). The laundry facilities (2 washers and 2 dryers) are inexpensive at $1 each (although one dryer stopped working). There are a variety of sites (full hookups, electric & water, and electric only). The first come first serve sites are electric only. We camped at Boulder Recreation Area Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE, Sullivan, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty big campground with several loops. Some are just electric, some have water, and some have sewer. Make sure you get what you want. Our GPS went a little whacky while at this campground because it seems they've rearranged the roads since Garmin updated the maps in their GPSs. Not a big deal though, the GPS got us to the campground alright. Some sites that are considered "waterfront" aren't really. They're on top of a hill that MIGHT have a view of the water through all the trees. Our site - 67 - did not have a water view. We camped at Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE in a Motorhome.

Indiana Dunes State Park, Chesterton, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Loved this park. The restrooms/showers were a bit dingy due to continual use throughout the summer; but they are clean. The camp store had ice cream which is always a bonus. Don't think any sites had sewer or water; but there is a dump station and several potable water spigots throughout the camp. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

Prairie Pines Campground, Rantoul, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Some GPS units may send you to the wrong location; but ours was accurate. Call to get directions if you feel it's necessary. The interesting thing about this campground was that you had to drive through the grass to be able to "pull-through" your campground; which is exactly what they want you to do. They even have you follow their golf-cart to get to your site doing this. Full hookups at all sites; everything worked as it should. The sites were a little close for such a big area. We camped at Prairie Pines Campground in a Motorhome.

Indian Creek COE, Monroe City, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are huge with lots of space around them. Unfortunately many of them are pretty unlevel which will be an issue for longer RVs. Our 50amp connection didn't work; but, after calling the office, they came out the next day to fix it. As others have mentioned, watch out for the ticks. Beautiful place overall! We camped at Indian Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Sparrowfoot COE, Clinton, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

As far as I can determine, there are no sites with 50amp service nor is there water or sewer at any site. What you get is 30amps, a picnic table, and a fire ring. But, for $10/night - that's not bad. There are a few water spigots scattered throughout the campground, if you get close to one of those you might be able to fill up your tank without having to move. Other than that... make sure you fill it up before you get it. We camped at Sparrowfoot COE in a Motorhome.

Riverside East COE, Burlington, Kansas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

Our site (#52) is a back-in with a turn... it was easy enough to get into when no one was in site #53; however, with an RV in site #53 - there would be some concern about tail swing clipping the RV. Also... our site (and site #51) were unlevel. So bigger rigs (motorhomes) might have an issue. We also had to clean up our site... Other than that... great looking campground. We camped at Riverside East COE in a Motorhome.

Riverside COE, Marquette, Kansas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

Although we're less than a 100ft from the river, there is no real view of it due to the trees between us. Other than that - an excellent campground. You can't pay for your site at the campground (even if you're coming as a "walk-in" you still need to pay for the site using recreation.gov). Lots of shade at most sites... no sewer at any of them. We camped at Riverside COE in a Motorhome.

Lots of trails to hike at Kanopolis State Park (North). Watch out for poison ivy and ticks. Nice biking/walking trail (Valkommen Trail) in Lindsborg. There's also a cool flour mill museum called "Old Mill Museum" in Lindsborg.

Meade State Park, Meade, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed this campground a lot... just about had it to ourselves during the middle of the week. The place was mostly clean (some debris in the lake). The dump was hidden at the back of the campground and we had to do a U-turn in a narrow lot to line up with it. We're told that there are no first come - first serve sights in KS State Parks. You can show up and if there is a site not reserved, you can stay at it. We camped at Meade State Park in a Motorhome.

Ute Lake State Park, Logan, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

We got to the park on a Friday afternoon and spent the first few minutes cleaning up our site. The cleanliness of the campground and facilities were a bit less than we've expected. For our dog, it was a bit iffy due to the sand burrs were all over the place. During the weekend it was JAMMED with cars driving all over the grass (the signs saying stay on paved roads were ignored and not enforced).

If you want a view of the lake or some shade - pick YUCCA loop. If you want 50amp, I think you'll need ZIA loop. We camped at Ute Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

We've stayed here before and will stay again. The price is right with 30amp connection and the Passport America discount (which is only valid for 3 days). Some spots have more tree shade than others (and some spots share an electrical box so they're closer together). There is also the noise from the freeway. We camped at Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post in a Motorhome.

We felt safe at this park; but, if you want more security, the park across the freeway has a security fence/gates surrounding their property...however the cost is significantly higher.

Navajo Lake State Park, Cottonwood Campground, Navajo Dam, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $4.00
Overall Rating:

Really enjoying this campground! Nice and quiet during the week. The NM State Park Ranger we talked to says this is the most popular of the several campgrounds at Navajo Lake State Park. They also indicated that is was the one with the most bugs. Although there are plenty of bugs, it's not as bad as I was expecting... except in some areas (not in the camping sites I've seen) there are a LOT of ants. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Cottonwood Campground in a Motorhome.

Hidden Valley RV Resort, Tijeras, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Was leery staying here after reading the last review... but it wasn't as bad for us as it was for the previous reviewer. The sites are definitely narrow - unless, like us, you get a double site. Ask for sites 19, 21, or 43 to get a wider space. Getting one of those, we'd stay here for a few days. Getting any other site, it'd be okay for a day. The one awkward thing is that some sites share water spigots; our water came from the right side of the site (not with the electric and sewer). There is a little hiking trail which is well marked but pretty short. There is also a nature trail that isn't marked at all and we couldn't figure it out. The pool and club house were clean. The laundry had 4 washers and dryers (although one dryer was broken) and was not that dirty. The roads were a bit bumpy; but nothing worse than some of the Thousand Trails campgrounds we've been in. Lastly, you can hear road noise from the nearby highways IF you listen for it. We camped at Hidden Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Oasis State Park, Portales, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has wide open spaces visible with not a lot of hiking available. There are some trails through some sand dunes between/near the different campground loops. The sites have nice covered picnic table areas on concrete slabs along with a grill at each site. There is a nice stocked pond on site that has catfish in the summer and trout in the winter. The only wildlife seen here are a few scaled quail and rabbits. The only downside is that the dump station is "under construction." The campground reservation verification email says it's been this way since 2016. If you click on the "Announcements" link, it says it's been this ways since at least March 2017. Make sure your tanks are empty before you get here. We camped at Oasis State Park in a Motorhome.

Caprock Canyons State Park, Quitaque, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Great park! Lots of trails to hike... enjoyed our bike ride out to an old train tunnel. Didn't see any bats though... Lots of wild animals... saw the bison, coyotes, prairie dogs, and a road runner. The sandwich shop near the entrance makes really good sandwiches! The only negative is the large number of sand burrs (stickers) that get in the dog's feet. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.
