Uncompahgre River RV Park (55+ park), Olathe, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We loved the campground and stayed for a month which the price reflects the lower amount. We had plenty of room on each side with mature trees for shade and were parked on a concrete pad. The bathrooms were spotless and they also provide a laundry room. They have a nice free library and dvd's to choose from. The utilities are all excellent, including the water pressure. We have 63 channels on cable TV (analog) and excellent wifi. The owners are fantastic in helping in every way they can. The park is located in the little town of Olathe so it is a easy walk downtown where there is a great breakfast place, small town but handy. Olathe is also located in the center of so many great areas to sightsee, so it's a great place as a central location. Of course this area is known for its delicious Olathe corn (yumm) and the palisade peaches. We went to Fruita and picked peaches, so much fun in a beautiful location on top of a Mesa. Just some of the places within a days drive: Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Owl Creek Pass, Marble, Grand Mesa, Colorado National Monument, Grand Junction, Ouray, Telluride and so much more. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Uncompahgre River RV Park (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Vallecito Resort, Bayfield, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

I made the reservation for this resort in February for July and I believe we must have been given one of the worst sites available. When I called I spoke with the owner and he assured me site #72 was one of his best. The good thing about this park was the location, it is located out of Bayfield and a lovely drive back to the resort. The resort is full of big tall pines which are lovely and just a few steps to the lovely Vallecito Lake which has some great hiking trails. Now for the bad, we were in pull thru site that was so tight but pretty level. We were situated next to a Park model with full timers and they held a party almost every night outside which ended up being within a few feet of our bedroom and they watched their TV they had outside on their porch on their banister next to our trailer, weird. Our site was either mud or weeds. Our utilities had to be run under our 5th wheel, there was no water pressure, we had them out a couple times and had hardly enough water pressure to flush the toilet. Even though they advertise cable we had not one station. The wifi was a joke. I would advise anyone to reconsider staying at this resort. Over 3/4 of the park is Park model units which are full time. Beware, the workers told us everything is over 30 years old and the owner didn't want to pay to upgrade. Very loud at night, we were across from hot tub lots of kids using it after hours, no staff ever came around at night to check anything. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA, Bernalillo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This campground was located out of Albuquerque on the northern edge and it was an easy off I40 to the campground. This KOA is a older campground that could use an update but it was fine for one night. We usually find campground personnel to be very nice and helpful but especially the blond woman working here was curt and rude. The wifi was adequate and there was cable. Also pool and playground for the kiddies. We were in site P10 a pull thru that had a picnic table which was on artificial turf and the site was gravel. There was a breakfast that was offered which was pricey but tasty. If we come thru this area again we will not stay at this campground, I thought it was expensive. We camped at Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Oasis RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We absolutely loved this RV Park, it is one of the nicest we have ever stayed at for just a one nights stay. You can see the Park from I40 and it is on the south side of 40 so easy off if you are going east or westbound.. It had full hookups with nice long pull thru's, the drive was all paved and the rv sites were concrete and asphalt with a nice picnic table. The utilities were all located on a very nice stand with the cable connection in the back. The cable only gave us 10 channels but that was fine, but the free wifi was excellent. Of course this is west Texas so there isnt much shade. This is a new rv Park and all the buildings were in the adobe mission style which was very pretty. Also, there was a lovely pool and playground for the kiddies. We would definitely stay here again if we are ever in Amarillo again. We camped at Oasis RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Branson Shenanigans RV Park, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Shenanigan's RV Park, Branson, Missouri This park was absolutely perfect. It is just a short drive off Hiway 76 the main drag in Branson. The park looks like a little bit of the Ozarks perched off in the trees and hilly. But I have to say each site is perfectly level because of the way they have cut tiers into the side of the hill. We were met by the owner in a golf cart upon arrival to take us to our site and help us to get situated. He asked several times if he could help connect the utilities and also to help us unhitch which is so very kind but we were fine and declined his help. The office is located at the bottom of the hill and there are bathrooms there as well as show tickets they sell at discounted prices. Each site has a picnic table, no fire pits because of all the trees that are trimmed with big rigs in mind. The park is very quiet the only sounds were the birds. We were pleasantly surprised our last evening in the park that the owner came by and offered us free tickets to a new show which was excellent the ticket value was $76.12, a great treat. When we are again in Branson we will definitely stay at Shenanigan's RV Park. We camped at Branson Shenanigans RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Downstream RV Park, Quapaw, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

The Downstream RV Park at the Downstream Casino is amazing, it is located an easy on and off of I-44. There are 2 parks one by the Q Shop next to the roundabout which is the furthest away or the one next to the casino in the RV parking lot. The area is a concrete parking lot which is very nice and level. The spots look out across a nice green field. Electric is available year round and water is only available during the warmer months and the water is next to the utilities and only one for each 2 sites so it is basically every other site has water. There is a van that comes around to pick you up about every 15 minutes to take you to the casino, but it is a easy short walk. There are no attendants on duty so you have to go to the casino to register your spot. Go to the Q Club Desk in the casino and get a Q Club card and the attendant will explain the benefits and then go on to the gift shop to register your RV spot. The wifi was excellent and we had about 16 TV channels and very quiet, the only thing I heard was the birds. And of course I have left the best for last, it is all free, unbelievable but true. We would definitely stay here again when passing through. We camped at Downstream RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Whistle Stop RV Resort, Abilene, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Whistle Stop RV Resort, Abilene, Texas This is a new RV resort with some things not open yet. Everything was very nice and the owners were more than helpful. I would definitely stay here again if in the area. The only bad thing was the cable, we had 40 channels when we arrived but that soon dropped to none, wifi was spotty. Spaces were fairly close but level, with no shade and they were long enough we didn't have to unhitch our 5th wheel. Price was $48.60 with Good Sam card, seemed a little expensive but when they get everything finished there might be more value. We stayed one night and it was very quite even though we were next to the Hiway. We camped at Whistle Stop RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Manzano's RV Park, Silver City, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This place is a absolute jewel! The landscaping was very nice with all the southwest plants and cactus. Mr. and Mrs. Manzano were so kind and would have done anything to make our stay really special. We were given site #7 which wasn't level and wifi was spotty so we moved to site #16 which was much better. The campground is very quiet with no noise, there is a rough gravel road leading to the campground which is maybe 1/2 mile, so you are away from all the Hiway noise. The price is $30 daily or $160 week, we stayed 9 days and the cost was $235.20. We loved the area with so much to do. The City of Rocks, Chino Mines, Cliff Dwellers and the Catwalk, all were lots of fun. We would definitely go back if we are in the area. We camped at Manzano's RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Southern Star RV Park, Van Horn, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

I made reservations at least 2 months prior but when I arrived they didn't have any reservation for me, the owner said her husband probably did it and didn't put it in their system. This park is old and run down with over grown trees that makes it difficult to get to a site without scratching your RV. The utilities were at the back of the sites. The sites were long enough to not have to unhitch for a night (we have a 32 ft fifth wheel). No cable and the TV was impossible because it was all fuzzy. The sites were gravel and mostly level. Dog waste was left in places making this a very undesirable campground. I would never go back. The cost was $27 with a Good Sam card, there isn't much choice in this area, only really little towns. You could hear noise from the Hiway and train. We camped at Southern Star RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

West Texas Friendly RV Park, Big Spring, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very clean nice for one night campground. Most of the sites were filled with long term workers in very nice or new trailers. There is wifi as well as cable. The lots are level gravel long pull thru's. The campground is a ways from the Hiway which is the only downside. It is very quiet at night. We camped at West Texas Friendly RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Vip - La Feria RV Park (55+ park), La Feria, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

We absolutely loved VIP LaFeria! This is our first time to the Rio Grand Valley in many years and the first time staying there in an RV. I never realized how much there is actually to do in the valley. VIP had so much going on all the time and so many choices that I felt like I was on a cruise ship(only spending a whole lot less). There is bingo, card bingo, card games, dominoes, ice cream socials, pot lucks, water aerobics, day tours, jewelry making, Wednesday night live entertainment, free bikes to ride, etc. And of course a gorgeous heated pool and hot tub. We especially loved all the people staying at VIP, they were all very welcoming and quickly accepted us into their group. Spots are quite tight but never any noise, it was really fun just to look out our windows and see what's going on and see people. This is an older park but absolutely spotlessly clean. This is all because of the great park managers. They were so kind to us we felt like we are old friends from the moment we met. Some of the things to do in the area are flea markets, going over the border to Progresso, visiting border patrol, South Padre Island with day cruises and fishing trips, the Iwo Jima statue, butterfly habitats, just too much to list. So my recommendation is stay at VIP you will love it like we did, and we are definitely going back next year. If you are wanting an economical place to visit go to the valley, everything is so much cheaper including the RV parks, so many produce stands with unbelievable prices, this place is heaven for a penny pincher! The price is with a monthly discount. We camped at Vip - La Feria RV Park (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Cooper Lake State Park / South Sulphur Unit, Sulphur Springs, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Cooper Lake State Park ($21) site #25 (Pull thru) (Brightstar Area) 50 amp, water no sewer but a dump station near by. The park is located on a very large beautiful lake. We could not see the lake from our campsite but the other campers were located far enough away to make us feel very serene and quiet. We hiked 1 short trail and another longer one by the swimming area. We camped at Cooper Lake State Park / South Sulphur Unit in a Fifth Wheel.
