Creekside RV Park, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Great location close to Pigeon Forge attractions and shopping but far enough away from the "madness". Creek runs along the side of property. Lots of trees. Lots are adequate size for vehicles. Close spacing. Clean. Lot 46 angled down from road so that water had to flow uphill to septic. Internet was intermittent. Log on/0ff, poor signal strength and slow. Lot 46 very hard to get into due to retaining wall across the street but lot was nice and quiet. Moved to lot 8, access much easier, Internet a bit better (surprise since it is further from the office), but it is right under a road and there's a lot of road noise during the day...almost zero at night. I'd stay again if I had to but will look for better next time. We camped at Creekside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand View Cabins and RV Park, Altamont, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Wish I could give 11 stars...can't say enough about manager and his staff. Helped me out when my fifth wheel battery failed, lent me tools, very friendly. Campsite had a nice view and you could walk about 100 feet to a great view. Internet was strong. Pull through site was easy to manage. These folks went out of their way to make me feel comfortable at all times. It's what other RV parks should model themselves after. We camped at Grand View Cabins and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain View Campground, Hiawassee, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

I rarely give "perfect" reviews, but these guys deserve it. Here's what went right during our stay: Excellent WiFi-the best I've ever had at a campground. Great community events-Sunday breakfast, Saturday fold music concert, etc. Good location with no traffic noise. The repeat customers here really tell you all you need to know. Just go here. You won't regret it. The staff are stellar guys and they do everything they can to make you feel at home. Note: if I had one minor quibble. it would be that the sites are a bit shallow, and I don't think they have any pull-throughs, but that won't keep me from coming back! We camped at Mountain View Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Claytor Lake State Park, Dublin, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

No WiFi, no sewer connections, no pull-throughs, lot not level, and this place gets 8.5 stars? Give me a break! We asked for a refund on one night's stay out of three within an hour of arrival and were told to go pound sand (politely). The good news is that the sites are generously spaced and the park is lovely. Plus there is a 24 hour duty guard to check you in. I wouldn't stay again. We camped at Claytor Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Kentucky Horse Park Campground, Lexington, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The spaces are very generous and the grounds are treed. Very clean, nice family environment. Pool, basketball, volleyball Pool closes at 7. Internet is spotty even close to source. Online reservation system doesn't work, and when you call to reserve a spot on the same day it can't be done. They offer a free shuttle to the horse park but they really aren't prepared to handle that request. No sewer. No pull through offered. We camped at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't bother with the shuttle service to the horse park. We waited about 30 minutes for them to show up after they dropped us off there. We used the truck the next time. They just aren't ready to provide this service on demand.

Boone KOA, Boone, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

You most likely will not fit your RV into the assigned spot. There are some problems that just can't be fixed...not at a reasonable price, and this campground was set up just too danged tight! I have a 25 foot 5'er. That's small. I pulled in and realized that I'd have to leave my truck blocking the road if I had the camper where it should be. So I backed up until I was almost into the lane behind me. That's where I set up. Unfortunately, even then, I couldn't leave my truck in front once unhooked. I'm just lucky they weren't full, so I parked in the spot across from me. I honestly have no idea how people cope when they're full. As it is, my camper was left by necessity in a very uneven spot, with one slider projecting over the sewer line (no way to run the pipe downhill all the way to it) and the stairs on top of some tree roots. The picnic slab was all the way at the front. I'm only giving 5 stars because the WiFi is great and the bathrooms are clean. Yes, the folks checking you in are friendly, but there's really nothing they can do about spots that are at least 4-5 feet too short and 2-3 feet too narrow. My guess is this place is really old and set up when rigs were a lot smaller. They just never kept up with the times (other than the Internet). And BTW, the pool inexplicably closes when the office does, so no chance of a quick dip after dinner. One last note-the road coming to this place is narrow. I was lucky I didn't meet anyone with an RV coming from the other direction. Yes, once set up, the park is nice if it's as empty as when I was here, what with the trees and animal farm/petting zoo and all-but obviously, I won't be back. I just don't need the hassle. We camped at Boone KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Jekyll Island Campground, Jekyll Island, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

The good-this is on Jekyll Island and is the only RV park there, so can't beat the location. WiFi is adequate to good. Site wasn't cramped and access was easy. Beautiful canopy of trees over the park. Quiet. The bad-roads were slightly rutted and muddy. Sites don't really have any surface other than dirt. Not level, but easy to level. Showers inexcusable. We camped at Jekyll Island Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Sonrise Palms RV Park, Cocoa, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Summary-at $50/night, expect a bit more. The good news is that the Internet works and the common areas are clean. Very friendly long time campers tried to help me out as a relative "newbie". Staff also friendly. The bad news is the sites are not very level and mostly on just dirt or a very thin layer of gravel. Low spots mean there are pools of standing water after rains. Right on top of Interstate so you'll get some noise and even a view of that road. Pool closes at 7, not dark 'til after 8. Not sure why we couldn't use it? We camped at Sonrise Palms RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
