Desert Willow RV Park, Van Horn, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park almost every time we have crossed West Texas. Nothing fancy - just a gravel parking lot, but a great place for an overnight. Sites are level, clean, hookups are easy and in good condition. Very nice bathrooms and showers - clean, fully tiled, in very good condition. In and out are easy. We never have needed to unhook. They haven't been overwhelmed by oil patch workers like the parks in Ft. Stockton. Never had a problem getting a site, even when we called the day of arrival. Although the sites are close together, there is no problem putting out the slides, and still plenty of room between you and your neighbor. Screw in hook-up. Need to elevate the hose a little, since the connection is slightly above ground. Power has never been a problem. Works consistently well. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sterling State Park, Monroe, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

It was a great place to stay, to visit Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, plus enjoy Monroe area attractions. However, the park is big, the sites are close together, there is no shade. I thought it was expensive for not having full hookups, and for such a plain looking RV camp. It appears a lot of families spend their weekends here fishing. Very busy on the weekend. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Convenient place to stay while we visited The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village (so worth the visit). We spent 2 days there. and could have spent 4 or 5 days there. Monroe has local attractions, as well.

Straits State Park, Saint Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Nice, well shaded area where we stayed, in the upper campground. Our 37' 5th wheel would have been hard to get into the few slots in the lower section (near the Straits). Plus, mosquitoes would have been worse in lower section. When I hooked up to 50 amp, there was no power. The first ranger was unable to fix the problem, so the next morning, another ranger came around, and figured out the breaker was bad. This wasn't a big problem - it was cool enough, we could run on the 30 amp and 1 A/C. They were prompt at they could be - I did not have a problem waiting overnight to get it fixed. Very stable power, once the 50 amp breaker was replaced. Sites were fairly close together - like many private parks we have been in. Dump station was well laid out, and easy to use. Hose with screw connection available to flush black tank. I think the price is high, since there was only electricity, and the sites were fairly close together. Price is for site plus Michigan DNR sticker you must have (prorated out over the 11 days in MI state campsites). Lots to do in the area. We camped at Straits State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Mackinac Island is a must, whether you want to bike, shop or see historical sites. We enjoyed 8 mile plus ride around island perimeter, with lots of stops to enjoy the beauty. Ride over on ferry was fun. Stayed out of the busy tourist area, except to eat. Joanne's double dark espresso fudge was outstanding. Chuck Wagon has great hamburgers. Bought smoked fish in St. Ignace from Manley's. Wow. Outstanding. Had white fish and lake trout. Loved them both. Prices seem very reasonable to me.

Kewaunee RV & Campground, LLC, Kewaunee, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Clean, neat park, with many pull-through slots & full hookups. People in park were friendly - easy to strike up a conversation with our neighbors. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. We followed their cart to our slot. Sites were fairly level - level enough that we decided not to block up either side of RV. I had to drop the front of the 5th wheel q bit, to gt level front to back. All services worked well. They even had a pool, although we didn't get a chance to use it, since we were there only 2 nights, and we wanted to explore Door County. We camped at Kewaunee RV & Campground, LLC in a Fifth Wheel.

Door County has a lot to offer. We were south of this county that is the tip of the peninsula, but not a long distance to get there. Cherries were being harvested, so we bought plenty (yum!). Toured the towns, the end of the peninsula, ate a great lunch. If we come back, I would like to stay at least a week.

Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Really nice layout for a park with so many sites. Good privacy from neighbors on either side. Asphalt pad, pretty level. No water at site, but water close enough it was easy to refill our fresh water tank (I searched the satellite view, to find a site near a water spigot). Really nice paved biking trails. Easy access to Lake Erie beach by bike. Convenient to Toledo, OH, but far enough removed to be quiet and clean. We camped at Maumee Bay State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The National Museum of the Great Lakes is a fascinating museum (remember Gordon Lightfoot's song 'The Edmund Fitzgerald?), and they have a ship moored along side that was used for many years to haul ore, etc. on the Great Lakes. Worth a visit. Also, the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral is worth a visit. We didn't get to go inside, because they close on July 4th, but just looking at the intricate and complex carving on the exterior was worth the visit.

Lake Snowden, Albany, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Seems like a funky park. Lots of RV's that are parked for the summer, families come out on the weekend. Site was dirt, with a little gravel. When it rained, it got muddy. No pad for picnic table, so it was not usable, because the ground was wet, easily became muddy. No water at the site, just electricity. No problem with electricity. Did go kayaking on the lake. Have a nice beach area for swimming, with an awesome looking blowup "play area" (slides, swing, climbing features). We camped at Lake Snowden in a Fifth Wheel.

Athens offers plenty of shopping. We drove around and looked at campus. Interesting downtown area that is worth walking around. Ate lunch at O'Betty's Red Hot. Very good hot dogs with some interesting and excellent combinations of toppings. Small hot dog "museum". We happened to be there when the owner was working. We didn't eat till 2:30 PM, so he had time to talk to us, and show us around the "museum".

Morrow Mountain State Park, Albemarle, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Nice state park, although it would have been nicer to have a water spigot at the site where we camped. The spot was a little difficult to get in, because of a stump we had to back over, that stuck up a few inches, but we still got in without too much trouble. Electricity worked fine, even when a thunderstorm blew through. Sites had decent separation between them, but closer than we have seen in other state parks. Lots to do - a swimming pool, boat ramp into the lake, kayak and boat rentals, a nice little museum on site, Morrow Mountain scenic views interesting history of why it was a popular site for native Americans even 10,000 years ago. We were surprised it wasn't at a higher elevation ("mountain" to me something over 4,500 feet). Morrow Mountain was supposedly an ancient mountain that had eroded away, so it wasn't much over 1,000' elevation. Friendly host - came to check on us about the time we were unhooking. Lot was level, and barely long enough for the 37' 5th wheel and dually. We camped at Morrow Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Plenty of shopping and good restaurants in Albemarle. Off the Square Restaurant was excellent. Also ate breakfast at the Donut Diner. The breakfast was excellent, and the chocolate iced doughnut was the best doughnut I have EVER had in my life. Visit Badin, NC and the museum there. This was a town built to process aluminum, and the museum there (created by a retired ALCOA employee) is excellent and fascinating.

Bonita Lakes RV Park , Meridian, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Needed a place for 1 night, on trip from Texas to South Carolina. This fit the bill. Close to I-20, with virtually no noise from road. Easy in, easy out. Level concrete pads made it easy to set up. They appear to have one area they use for overnight and short term stays. Sites are fairly close together. The "short term" area is like a parking lot - no trees, no grass. No problem. Check-in was easy and fast. Told us just to pick any open spot. We camped at Bonita Lakes RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sagebrush RV Park & Storage, Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Most of the RV's in the park appeared to be long term, probably oilfield workers (since activity in the oilfields has picked up a lot in the last couple months). The first slot we tried, there was no power. The second one had good, consistent power, the water pressure was plenty high enough. The sewer connection was too high, and it consisted of a pipe sticking up out of the ground - no way to seal it when not being used. Park wasn't clean. Trash on the ground (cigarette butts, plastic wrappers, paper, etc.). Couple that ran it seemed nice, although we didn't see much of them, except when we checked in, and when we paid as we were leaving. We camped at Sagebrush RV Park & Storage in a Fifth Wheel.

Willow Springs RV Park , Raton, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Trying to find a slot at an RV park on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Lots of parks full. This one wasn't. They were about 2/3 full. Friendly, helpful owners. Slots are a little narrow, but room enough to put all 4 slides out. Had to make sure we positioned two slides to miss a tree. Owners very helpful getting us located and lined up. Friendly neighbors. Site was level, we pulled all the way through, gave plenty of room in the back for our tow vehicle. Easy off from I-25, easy on to US 87 when we headed for Amarillo. Owner offered suggestions on things to see and do in the area. Very satisfied with the service. Looks like new owners have painted a lot of the buildings on the property. We would stay here again. We camped at Willow Springs RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Chief Joseph Park, Harlowton, Montana

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped for a night. Made sure we filled our tank with water before pulling into our site, since there is only 1 water spigot in the middle of the campsites. We got a "pull-through" site, because there was no one in the site behind us. They are all actually back-in sites. We were thankful we could pull through, since it had been a long day and we were tired. Our site was very level (not all are), and there was plenty of length for our 37' 5th wheel, so we didn't have to unhook. We stayed in Site #2. They have recently installed new electric hookups - 20, 30 and 50 amp are all available. This is part of a rodeo fairgrounds, so it is a pretty large park, with lots of trees. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Chief Joseph Park in a Fifth Wheel.

North American RV Park & Yurt Village, Coram, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We planned on a week but found there was so much to do at Glacier National Park that we stayed 2 weeks. Staff is very friendly, but we thought the RVers staying there were the friendliest of anywhere we have stayed. Site required one layer of leveling blocks, but setup and hookup was easy. Laundry facilities were very nice, and we never had to wait to use them. People spend the summer there, and a couple leave their RV there all year, but none of the sites looked junky - all clean, with plants and flowers in some. When we come back to Glacier, we will stay here again. We camped at North American RV Park & Yurt Village in a Fifth Wheel.

Glacier is so worth the visit. It is easy to spend 2 weeks there Wished we could have stayed longer. Forest fires were a big problem this year because they have had so little rain, but the air where we were was pretty clear until the last couple of days. There were no fire dangers around the campground, and even the days that were smoky weren't a danger to our health.

Were here for 8 days. Friendly hosts, had a lot of fun playing miniature golf with family. We were in a pull-thru, but the sites on either side were so close that our canopy shaded our neighbor's slide. Site was barely long enough for our 37' 5th wheel and dually tow vehicle. Some sites had more space between them, but most appeared to be almost as close together as ours. Met many nice people in park. We enjoyed the area, because there was a lot to see and do. Lovely setting. Big trees, lots of Spanish Moss. Sites are spacious enough, and most asphalt pads are nice and level. Very quiet. Most sites are large enough for our 37' 5th wheel, but some require you to park your vehicle at a slight angle, to fit in the space. Our space backed up on Lake Coose, which seems to be a popular fishing lake. If we are back in the area, we will definitely stay here again. Boats and kayaks and bicycles available for rental. Several trails for bicycles. Really enjoyed biking there.
