Rocky Neck State Park, East Lyme, Connecticut

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Experience was good during our stay at Rocky Neck. The grounds are beautiful, and the ability to walk around the park on the hiking trails or walk down to the beach is a great aspect. I was a little upset to see that the grass was not cut recently (looked overgrown and uncared for) and although the abundance of trees around the camping areas was quite nice, they were not maintained/trimmed to the point where I needed my girlfriend to spot the fifth wheel trailer as I zigzagged down the roads to avoid taking my AC units off my roof or gouging the sized of my camper. The site I initially booked was NOT able to fit my camper as it was described, there was a large cedar tree with branches protruding into the site approximately 75%. Luckily, with one phone call to the front camping office, they were able to switch us to another nearby site. Being that Rocky Neck is a CT State Park, they offer a dump station on site, which was not usable during my stay due to a large branch hanging well over the entry road to the dump station. I would not have been able to get my truck through, let along my camper. My one word of caution to people looking to stay at Rocky Neck State Park is to be aware and careful of the untrimmed trees as I mentioned before. But please do not take my review as a "bad time" while camping here. We both loved the scenery and location, and will be looking to come back, barring the need for the park service to maintain the grounds a bit more first. We camped at Rocky Neck State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Within the park itself, there is easy access to Rocky Neck State Park Beach, as well as easy on and off from I-95 (within 5 minutes from campground) to access local town such as Niantic, Mystic, and a close run to the Mohegan Sun Casino. Many fun things to do in the area.

Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, Connecticut

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

I have stayed at the Mohegan Sun RV Lot a handful of times now. It serves a great purpose for transient campers looking to use their camper as an affordable way to hit the casinos! There is no cost for the use of the lot, and the views are great overlooking the river. Mohegan Sun provides security guards who occasionally patrol the lot (day and night) along with a shuttle service that will come pick you up from the covered bus stop location in the lot. The shuttle runs approximately every 15-20 minutes making things very convenient. There are no hookups (water, sewer, electric) as it really is JUST an open lot. Spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. Even without hookups, this spot serves as a great, affordable, and fun way to visit the casino. If you are interested in visiting, download and fill out the form on the Mohegan Sun website (the security guard will come collect it once you arrive, and give you a pass to put in your window.) Highly recommended! We camped at Mohegan Sun Casino in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If constant casino time is not your thing, there is plenty to do in the area. The highway is right down the road from the RV lot, were you can easily get to Mystic, CT or other coastline towns to visit.

Tree Farm Campground, Springfield, Vermont

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Had a great experience while staying at Tree Farm Campground. We went up with our 26' TT at the time and found our site to be easy to back into and spacious once set up. The staff of the campground were all very nice and offer an escorted route to your site upon arrival. This was a great service as there definitely was a "right" and "wrong" way to get to our site due to how the site was positioned with trees and such. The campground was nice and quite in the evening and night times, even with the fair amount of other campers at the time. If you are looking for a rustic campground with a "woodsy" feel to it, definitely look into Tree Farm Campground. I would certainly go back. We camped at Tree Farm Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Plenty of sight-seeing to do in the surrounding area, with a quaint downtown area close by. A great campground to visit during the fall when the foliage is a sight to see.
