Deer Meadow Campground, Cooksburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

I am there for the summer so my daily rate reflects their advertised rate. Good camp store and pool for recreation. Pool closes at 6 PM. It is a large campground with mostly seasonal sites. Entertainment on most weekends. Tent camping is no longer permitted. Most of the transient sites are in full sun with easy access. We camped at Deer Meadow Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Horseback riding through state forest is right next door. Two restaurants within walking distance. Several more on PA-36 through Cooksburg. You are on the edge of Cooks Forest State Park with canoeing, rafting and fishing on the Clarion River. Check out Sawmill Theater to see plays are being performed.

Greenwood Furnace State Park, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in site #48. It is an uphill grade backing into the site but is fairly level once you get in the site. The park has a nice lake with a beach area and concession stand. Fishing appeared to be good when I was there. We camped at Greenwood Furnace State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Frances Slocum State Park, Wyoming, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nice wooded setting. Sites have electric only. Several water fill stations spaced around campground. The restrooms/showers are old and dated. Signage directing you to campground needs improvement. We camped in a 23' trailer so access was easy. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Large lake in park. Boats available for rent. Drive west to Ricketts Glen State Park and hike the trail along 22 waterfalls. It is a strenuous 3.5 miles with an elevation drop and subsequent rise of ~600 feet. Well worth the effort.

Camp Huaco Springs, New Braunfels, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Good campground for self contained rvs on Guadalupe River. Sites 1-7 have good access to back in. Good selection of pull through sites. I cannot recommend this campground for tenting due to the limited facilities. They also charge extra for any guests that come to visit you even if you do not exceed 4 people in your camp ($20 car day use fee). You can place your rv on either side of the patio. You park your vehicle on the other side of the patio. Hookups on both sides of patio. Beware of the tire spikes on the exits. One camper tried to enter through the exit and had his tires flattened. We camped at Camp Huaco Springs in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

To visit the Alamo in San Antonio, park at the Mission San Jose (Natl Park Service center) in San Antonio and board city bus #40. Purchase the day pass ($2.75) and ride it to the Alamo and the River Walk. The bus will also take you to the other missions in San Antonio. Admission is free to all.

Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area (Military FamCamp), Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a military campground. There are two campgrounds on site. We have stayed at both campgrounds. Anchor Cove is more rustic with 30A electric, water and dump station. The road and sites are sand/gravel. Not big rig friendly but I made it with 36' travel trailer. The restrooms are clean but older. Some sites look out over Perdido Bay. Battleship Row has full hookups and paved sites. Big rig friendly with some pull thru sites. Mixture of sunny and shaded sites. Modern restrooms and laundry facilities. Even the front row sites are 100 yards from the bay. Battleship Row is in high demand (particularly during the winter and summer) so book early. Still no wifi at either campground yet. We camped at Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.
