Pinckney Recreation Area (Bruin Lake), Pinckney, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This park does have 50 amp sites. Hint: if you have a 45ft RV select RV size of 40 ft and you can read the 'details' of each site, specifically, the details give you the site size. Many more sites will accommodate the 45 ft RV's on a 40 ft site. We camped at Pinckney Recreation Area (Bruin Lake) in a Motorhome.

Amarillo Ranch RV Park, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Next to I-40. Very noisy. Stayed 3 nights to visit the area. Took free (+ tip to driver) limo service to Big Texan Steak Ranch. Pool and Hot tub were locked up at 6pm-seemed a bit early. No recycling. We camped at Amarillo Ranch RV Park in a Motorhome.

Happy Trails RV Park LLC, Moriarty, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

New owners-very friendly. This is an older park that the new owners are refurbishing. A good overnight spot. We did not have an assigned site just pulled in along an open row of camp sites. We camped at Happy Trails RV Park LLC in a Motorhome.

Zane Grey RV Park (55+ park), Camp Verde, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly office and ground maintenance staff. Nice walking trails to the creek. Our big rig just fit on site #50. It was a busy corner and we could hear the road noise, no leaves on trees yet. We would return but request a site away from the road. We camped at Zane Grey RV Park (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Camp Verde adds a "privilege tax" on camping on top of a high county and state tax. Take a trip to see Montezuma's Well and Castle. Sedona and Cottonwood are a 30 min drive. Cottonwood had a city tax on all groceries. Visit Tuzigoot National Monument, drive Oak Creek Canyon scenic byway. Jerome has fantastic views, drove the scenic byway to Prescott for craft beer. Flagstaff was chilly and some snow. Highway 17 going north from Sedona to Flagstaff is in need to maintenance.

Homolovi Ruins State Park, Winslow, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Nice big spaces, clean, quiet. Our CSR made me feel like it was a 'chore' to check me in. Make sure to ASK for a park brochure at the Visitor's Center so you know about things to do in the park. Bathrooms need a complete overhaul but they were usable. There was a space heater in the women's bathroom plugged into an outlet right at the sink-that was unsafe. We would return. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

We kayaked the Clear Creek River at McHood Park. Once you get past the graffiti on the rocks it's a beautiful paddle! Visit Little Painted Desert, Petrified National Forest and Winslow for "Standing on the corner..". The park has a visitor center, couple trails and ruins to tour.

River Breeze RV Resort, Ehrenberg, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This park charges $7 per day for electric! Grass at site was dead and very picky this time of year. Stuck to everything. Our dog got a thorn that took weeks to heal. Grass at dog park was good. Tow vehicles had to be parked in the street. No picnic tables. Get a "box" for cable-we didn't bother. Good for an over night but be mindful of dead picky grass. Finding a Vet was a nightmare. We camped at River Breeze RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

River Current way too fast here for kayaking and don't recommend letting pets go in water. We went to Joshua Tree from here about 80 miles. Closest Veterinarian was in Blythe-not accepting new patients-booked for weeks. No emergency appointments. Same message at 4 Vets in Lake Havasu. Yuma Vet would work you in the next day but you had to call at 8am, no later, the day of to check for availability and there are higher fees for work ins.

River Island State Park, Parker, Arizona

Overall Rating:

Beautiful small state park with huge sites. Meticulously maintained grounds. Short hiking trail within park to overlook the river. Park wifi worked ok at sites closer to office. Verizon worked ok closer to the water. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Definitely would return! We camped at River Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Speak with Park Ranger about a good day to kayak at CG-it was Thursday during our stay. Kayak the Bill Williams Wildlife Refuge, lots of birds. Stop at the Visitor Center and hike the short trail. Take the beautiful 3 mile (1/2 mile increments) hike in Buckskin State Park-use your River Island entrance tag to enter. Drive the Parker Dam Scenic Byway-into California. Jeep trip to Swansea-old mining facility. Scenic drive up 95 to Lake Havasu to see the London Bridge!

Tucson / Lazydays KOA, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 1 month. Had to give a $50 electric deposit. Read your meter! We are full (younger) timers. Would have liked more interesting and organized activities. I made an activity request but no one followed up. This is more of a transient park with people using the repair facility or folks working the gem, fossil, mineral shows. Try not to stay in sites near the Benson Hwy wall-lots of traffic noise. It would be nice if people getting service at Lazy Days would take their sewage hoses with them-or at least cover the ends-it's very inconsiderate to leave them lying out. We camped at Tucson / Lazydays KOA in a Motorhome.

Desert Trails RV Park (40+ park), Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Rate based on 1 month stay. This park is a 5.0 rating at best. This is not a resort-it's a campground-built around an old waterpark that they didn't bother to tear out. Bathrooms, office and many out buildings, gym equipment, furnishings in them are worn out/thrift store appearance. Sites: mostly small, tight, oddly shaped in odd places, some w/uneven surfaces. Our site was long, closer to county road-traffic noise and drivers in park speed. Many of the RVers return year after year (some 18 +/- years) they get the level, larger, quieter sites in the back. Many of the activities offered didn't interest us (we call them sit down activities) no tennis courts/pickleball/bumbee ball, no water/pool activities and there are 'private groups' (?). The park was mostly full but if you're a planner it's not hard to reserve (as people claim?). We planned to stay longer, based on reviews, but canceled based on experience. We will return for a month next winter. Hopely, the owners make some changes/upgrades, invest $$, including using computer/on-line, text information sharing and hiring (work kamper?) experienced activity facilitator-it's a large CG/changing population dynamics. Attend the Monday info mtgs for (kinda) updated/info or look at Bulletin Boards for info, or show up only to learn it's canceled. The music events are good-pass the (coffee can?) to pay, marked trails are on 'flat' desert ground, yoga-$2-pay instructor, mountain bike group is semi organized-offering beginner's and advanced groups, the "Mtn Bike course" is odd. Owner/mgr (male) can be curt. We are first time desert campers-it would have been helpful for office to offer a 'beware of and what to do in case of' snakes, scorpions, ants, packRATS, coyotes, goat heads- thorns and valley fever, at this park. This park is 8+ miles from stores-nearby Fire/Rescue is busy. We camped at Desert Trails RV Park (40+ park) in a Motorhome.

Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park), Gold Canyon, Arizona

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the Short Term lot in the front of the park. Short term fee includes garbage pick up and sewage. These services are charged for if you stay a month. Some activites are pay to play (Aqua cycling, water aerobics, meals, etc). Because we weren't 'park of the more permanent park residents' we were able to participate in group activities on the 'off' times ex: Water volleyball or durning 'scheduled' times we created our own 'fun' game/teams ex: bumbee ball. The gym was well equiped with current/good quality equipment. Pools were beautiful! Big downfall for us was No picnic table :( Verizon was poor but AT&T Mobily was great. Didn't use park Wifi. Lots of nearby hiking, jeep/off road, mtn biking, kayaking and pontoon boat rental (Canyon Lake). We would stay here again! We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

The Ranch - Escapees Park (members only), Lakewood, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Yes, this is a uniquely friendly park (read their website). It appeared that many of the residents and RVs have been staying here for awhile. We went to the "happy/social" hour and were offered coffee and tea then it quickly changed to what felt like a meeting. Singing "God Bless America" and loosely following the Robert's Rules of order. Newcomers were invited to go up to the podium and share who, what, when, where, why. Announcments followed including a craft project/explanation, who is ill and their status, who could oversee the 'happy/social' hour the next few days, who is leaving and singing "Happy Trails" to them. We are younger full time travelers and this "format" may appeal to others but it is not for us. Overall, we felt safe, our site was extra large and gravel covered. The CG was quite a distance from stores and attractions, we are Escapee members. Good for an overnight. We camped at The Ranch - Escapees Park (members only) in a Motorhome.

Bottomless Lakes State Park, Roswell, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for 4 days after the Balloon Fiesta. Very quiet, spacious sites, our picnic table did not have a cover/shelter. Looks like they removed it but left part of the metal footing in the concrete-tripping hazard. The biggest downfall were the flies and mosquitoes. Idk if it was the time of year or if it was ususal for this area but it was bad. Good for an overnight or two to get away from the hustle and bustle of cities. We camped at Bottomless Lakes State Park in a Motorhome.

American RV Resort, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We are a big rig, we always tell campgrounds this when we call to reserve a site. The staff seemed frustrated and had to shuffle around their computer system to move us to a larger pull through site. We stayed 9 days on one of the noisiest sites-facing the frontage road and expressway. It was miserable. You couldn't sit outside because of the noise. Take a close look at the site map if you plan on staying here. After signing a couple pages of "not liable for" at check in our radar should have gone up. Our unfortunate camp neighbors had their electric bike stolen, it had three cable locks on it. Keep in mind this CG has a security gate and cameras and lots of lighting. The gate was malfunctioning for a couple days. We decided we will not stay here again. We camped at American RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Las Cruces KOA, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights. Narrow site for 4 slides, no awning use, no room for a picnic table if we had gone and gotten one (there was a sign to help yourself to a table). Felt safe, lovely breezes and views of Las Cruces. Pool was closed. Playground needs upgrading. We'd stay again. We camped at Las Cruces KOA in a Motorhome.
