The Ranch - Escapees Park (members only), Lakewood, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Yes, this is a uniquely friendly park (read their website). It appeared that many of the residents and RVs have been staying here for awhile. We went to the "happy/social" hour and were offered coffee and tea then it quickly changed to what felt like a meeting. Singing "God Bless America" and loosely following the Robert's Rules of order. Newcomers were invited to go up to the podium and share who, what, when, where, why. Announcments followed including a craft project/explanation, who is ill and their status, who could oversee the 'happy/social' hour the next few days, who is leaving and singing "Happy Trails" to them. We are younger full time travelers and this "format" may appeal to others but it is not for us. Overall, we felt safe, our site was extra large and gravel covered. The CG was quite a distance from stores and attractions, we are Escapee members. Good for an overnight. We camped at The Ranch - Escapees Park (members only) in a Motorhome.

Bottomless Lakes State Park, Roswell, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for 4 days after the Balloon Fiesta. Very quiet, spacious sites, our picnic table did not have a cover/shelter. Looks like they removed it but left part of the metal footing in the concrete-tripping hazard. The biggest downfall were the flies and mosquitoes. Idk if it was the time of year or if it was ususal for this area but it was bad. Good for an overnight or two to get away from the hustle and bustle of cities. We camped at Bottomless Lakes State Park in a Motorhome.

Visit Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge-Visitor Ctr here had reduced hours. We had our kayaks but didn't use them on the 'pond'. Don't really care for paddling around in circles.

American RV Resort, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We are a big rig, we always tell campgrounds this when we call to reserve a site. The staff seemed frustrated and had to shuffle around their computer system to move us to a larger pull through site. We stayed 9 days on one of the noisiest sites-facing the frontage road and expressway. It was miserable. You couldn't sit outside because of the noise. Take a close look at the site map if you plan on staying here. After signing a couple pages of "not liable for" at check in our radar should have gone up. Our unfortunate camp neighbors had their electric bike stolen, it had three cable locks on it. Keep in mind this CG has a security gate and cameras and lots of lighting. The gate was malfunctioning for a couple days. We decided we will not stay here again. We camped at American RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Albuquerque is a lovely town. It's unfortunate the crime rate is awful. Every night the news reported shootings, thefts, etc. Be mindful when staying here.

Las Cruces KOA, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights. Narrow site for 4 slides, no awning use, no room for a picnic table if we had gone and gotten one (there was a sign to help yourself to a table). Felt safe, lovely breezes and views of Las Cruces. Pool was closed. Playground needs upgrading. We'd stay again. We camped at Las Cruces KOA in a Motorhome.

Moss Landing KOA Express, Moss Landing, California

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a week and visited family in the area. Friendly and conscientious staff, offered baked cookies upon arrival! Escorted us to our site. Hummingbirds galore! 1 block to beach and several great eating establishments. Marina and small park right next to the park. Community fire pit almost nightly. Narrow sites but we moved the table in front of our MH. Recycling! We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Motorhome.

Walk to the end of Sandholt Rd to view the hundreds of seal lions, Salinas River State Park for beach walks and sunsets. Moss Landing Rd intersection at HW1 was always extremely busy and dangerous!

High Sierra RV & Campground, Oakhurst, California

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

Enter off of Road 426. Do not enter off of 41. Road 41 entrance winds you through the mobile home park area and is steep. Small RV park, quiet. We stayed 10 days. We had one of the two pull thru sites. Office staff were friendly. I gave it a 9 because the Laundry room needed a good cleaning, maybe daily attention since it was heavily used and the electrical wiring in it was scary. No recycling. Our dog enjoyed her daily romp in the river. We would stay here again. We camped at High Sierra RV & Campground in a Motorhome.

Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel, Bernardo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Good for an overnight. They required a 2 night stay the week of Balloon Fiesta but we watched others stay one night and leave. They have a no-hook-up overflow area. Idk what they were charged. This parks backs up to the expressway. Sites are pull through and are very tight for big rig with 4 slides, took some maneuvering but we got it in. No extending awnings. No tables. Obey the speed limit, 5 mph, or they follow you to your site to remind you. We camped at Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel in a Motorhome.

Nevada County Fairgrounds RV Park, Grass Valley, California

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a week-family visit. Campground had tons of vacancy. Easy in and out big rig friendly. Lots of people come to walk or fish on the grounds. Felt safe and secure. A tree trimming company stores its equipment here. Sites are extremely close together. Your door opens to neighbors sewer/water/electric hook ups. Charged $10 to rent a picnic table (we didn't rent). They recycle!! We would stay again but would ask they not place a camper next to us or get an end site if possible. Just too close. We camped at Nevada County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Motorhome.

Mountain Shadows RV Park, Draper, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was on the main road, long pull through site, with mature trees. These are "Buddy sites" and the space/slide distance between our non-buddy's 5th wheel and our MH was about 2 ft. It was easy enough to get in and out of with our 45FT MH. Our section was not as noisy as the front/road side of the park. Trees blocked our satellite, OTA was ok TV channels. Used our own internet. At about 3:30-6:30pm every day we experienced a voltage drop (at our 50 amp site) to 105 Volts, causing our air conditioners to turn off) probably for the high demand of air conditioners, etc. We adjusted and used our Coleman camp stove! It was unusually hot here-high 90's. This park is a mixture-the permanent residents' homes include tiny and Modular homes and some TT, 5ers, MHs are in the park back and sides and all other RV's are towards the front. We left our kayaks and chairs out-didn't feel unsafe at all. The police did cruise through daily. If in this area again, we will consider other campgrounds but won't rule out staying here again for it's convenience and location. 5 days is probably the max though. Office staffer was a 'trainee'. She did very well explaining rules, etc. We camped at Mountain Shadows RV Park in a Motorhome.

We camped in a 45' MH. F/H/U pull through. Campground is behind a Comfort Inn-not affiliated. This park has 'buddy' sites. You also share your picnic table with your 'buddy'. Many "long term" and "seasonal" Rv's, people going to work every morning/returning in evening. We felt safe but didn't leave anything out. We would stay here again. Beautiful college town in the Wasatch Mountain Range. Drive the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway to Bear Lake. Stop at Tony Grove Lake for a 1.1 mile hike or kayak around this beautiful glacial lake. Bear Lake is stunning! Have a Raspberry Shake at LeBeau's Sweet Shop! We traveled by Jeep to Ephraim's Grave-Google Ephraim Bear story. Great Razor or 4 wheeler trails all around. If you enjoy boondocking there are many places in the canyon for it.

We camped in a 45ft MH-stayed 6 days/over Eclipse 2017 date. Electric and Water only, dump station. Water pressure was low. Nice grounds, walking/bike trail across the street. Staff were friendly, helpful and very busy! Administrative Office Staff was very helpful. Bathroom wasn't very clean though. Black mold in women's shower-really need a strong fan or bleach it off daily. We camped at North Bingham County Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Hike Cress Creek Nature Trail, Heise Golf Course restaurant & hot springs were GREAT! Visit the Hell's Half Acre Lava Field, hike, with hiking boots, Menan Butte-last leg of it is miserable. Close to all things Glacier National Pk. Grass between sites was overgrown, sewer drain too high, picnic table was unusable. Many full time workers and seasonal campers, they kept to themselves. Felt safe and no one bothered our outdoor 'stuff'. No play ground for kids. Must be a septic field problem as a Septic pumper truck came twice while we were here to pump out the park tanks. Over priced for what it is. Office building and grounds were neat and clean but camper sites were neglected. OK for an over night or two. We will look elsewhere when we pass through here again. Glacier entrance about 45 minute drive. Kayak on Hungry Horse Reservoir. Columbia Falls Thursday night farmers market: lots of food trucks and artist tents but not much farm stuff. Kalispell has every box store and chain food restaurant imaginable, Whitefish 'resort' town was hip but expensive. We used Auto Glass Wash and Wax in Whitefish to repair a chip in our windshield. $9.95 great work and the price was right!

Medora Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed 2 nights. Office staff were pleasant. Roads were easy to navigate with 45 ft MH and toad. Drive slowly and the dust will stay down. It's a dirt campsite but we dealt with it. Pull through sites for MH were very close. Sewer hose was next to picnic table. It was hot so we ate indoors and put lawn chairs in front of MH. We couldn't get OTA TV or satellite (trees). But we were busy sight seeing, at going to the Musical. We camped at Medora Campground in a Motorhome.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is beautiful. Nice visitor center and drive. Buck Hill is spectacular. We heard coyotes! It showered lightly and was a bit muddy but we hiked many trails anyway. Attended the Medora Musical, it's not something we usually go to and we were surprised at the price even with a senior d/c. It was ok. Medora doesn't have grocery store so stock up before you stay here. We would stay here again.

Lindenwood Park, Fargo, North Dakota

Overall Rating:

CG in a park! We camped in Section A during the week for one night. We d/c our toad and drove through the park and talked to management before we entered due to the construction. We didn't have problems navigating the detour or park roads in 45ft MH. Expressway traffic noise was loud at site. 50amp service was great-no sharing. Water was fine, it was a 'shared spigot' but we didn't have neighbors. Used over the air TV-too many trees for satellite. There are two "bath" facilities. The one in the Information Center was nice. We would stay here again. We camped at Lindenwood Park in a Motorhome.

Great walking park. Some folks were fishing in the Red River. Nice Roger Maris memorial (on the park property) and there is a museum (he was a baseball player that hit 61 home runs in 1961 season) at the West Acres shopping center. Good craft beer at Fargo Brewing Company. Very nice college campus.
