Oakdale Park, Glen Rose, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

First time I've ever rated a campground, a full 10. This one, is a gem! The city recently took over the campground and it looks beautiful. Very big-rig friendly. Our site was open, but some do have shade. Large pool and playground. During the summer, the city hold concerts a few times a month (mostly bluegrass, I believe). Sites are level and spacing is decent. Picnic tables at the sites. Nice laundry room, $3.75 to wash and dry a load. Didn't use the WiFi as AT&T had strong service. We arrived during the office lunch hour, so we chose an empty spot and updated the office when she got back in; no problems. Less than 10 minutes from Dinosaur State Park. Across the street from the campground (you can walk over) is an area of the river, that the city controls with a dam; kids can play in the water and climb rocks. It's a wonderful area! Bonus to this campground, is at the time of our visit...they honored Passport America. We had a large, FHU, pull-thru site...for under $19! Even at full-price, it's a great place to stay. We camped at Oakdale Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Airport Park COE, Waco, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We just finished a 3 night stay at this campground. Pros: great location, when visiting the sights in Waco. Rangers are very, very nice. Our site was a pull-through with an amazing view. Cons: campground has seen better days. Some areas are very worn. During our visit, the bathhouse was filthy and the showers did not work (the ranger said they were in between cleaning contracts). This campground can experience some really strong winds. Our guess is because the sites are on the lake. Two of the three nights, we had gusts of 35 mph. Not the park's fault, but it does make for a very rough night sleep. We had a beautiful view, close proximity to the sites in Waco, 50amp service and water with a pull-thru site...all for $24/night. Property is very quiet. We were very happy with our stay. 8.5 out of 10 for us. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Noccalula Falls Campground, Gadsden, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Like others, mixed feelings on this campground. The staff was very nice. The falls were beautiful. Gadsden itself has a lot of shops and restaurants. This campground, is older and the sites are very close together (think a KOA, but even closer). Bigger rigs could have a tough time getting into a few sites. If you have a good spotter, you'll make it in... but the tight spots and trees can make it very, very tough. They do not reserve the pull-through sites, we were able to grab one on a first come/first serve basis. Our pad actually shared a parking spot, with the camper next to us. They had to park in front of our 5th wheel; we parked in the back. On the weekend, this place is very hard to navigate. Roads are a bit rough. Most sites had picnic tables and fire pits. Price was right. Nice playground for kids and there is a small pool. I did not see a dog run. I would give this property, a score of 7.5 stars. We camped at Noccalula Falls Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

CreekFire Motor Ranch, Savannah, Georgia

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at this park MLK weekend. The campground is new, which means the trees/vegetation are in the baby stage... but that's to be expected. They should grow in nicely, over the next few years. The property has a nice sprawling feel to it. The staff was very nice. The office is lovely, very "Joanna Gaines" in style. We had a pull through cement site next to the clubhouse. While long enough, it was very narrow. Additionally, our pedestal was up towards the front of our unit, which required us to pull all the way up (as our electric is at the back of rig). Not a huge deal except they had put a small cement porch towards the middle/back of the site and (with pulling forward) our door was nowhere near it. We had to step out onto wet grass. Most of the RVs we looked at, had the same problem; my guess is, the grass along the sides of the sites will die rather quickly from guests walking on it (it's newly laid sod). Some of the sites were gravel and a few of them had some drainage issues. Each site had a picnic table and fire pit. Roads were easy to navigate (we have a 40' 5th wheel). The amenities were very nice: Outdoor pool, kiddie pool, hot tub, outdoor game room area with ping-pong, foosball, darts and a mini pool table. There is also a very nice playground, with swings and they were in the process of building a nice sized gazebo (maybe for picnics tables as it was near the pool). The back of the property has a small lake and several sites. I saw a small bathhouse, but I didn't look in so I don't know if there was a shower in the room or just a toilet/sink. There are a couple of showers near the pool up front. Laundry room onsite, $3.75 for a load (wash and dry). The free wifi was slow, you can pay to upgrade. Cable is not included, you have to pay $5/day to get Direct TV. At&t service was strong. There is some road noise from I95, but nothing that you can hear inside your rig. Location is about 20 minutes from Savannah. We camped at CreekFire Motor Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

Emerald Coast RV Beach Resort, Panama City Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed two nights, over NYE. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Property was very clean and the staff were very nice. Nice location, close to everything. No direct beach access, but only a 5 minute drive. Some road noise, but we were parked next to the office (by the street) so that's to be expected. I'm a light sleeper and it did not keep me awake. Cable was fuzzy, but wifi was good. AT&T coverage was strong. Nice playground area and two (outdoor) heated pools. Fishing pond and a large dog run. There are some nice class A sites, by the fishing pond. Sites and roads are paved. Really nice property. We've already reserved, another weekend! We camped at Emerald Coast RV Beach Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Gulf State Park Campground, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

For us, this state park was jyst okay. Pros: We had spot 304 and it fit our 40' fifth wheel. Staff was friendly and location was 10-15 minutes from the stores and restaurants. Nice bike path. Nice pool. Good AT&T service. Cons: Interior roads can be narrow, only a concern when riding bikes with our kiddos. No shade, tough for a July visit ;). No immediate beach access, you either have to bike or drive to the beach. Landscaping needed some serious attention in areas. No cable (not a biggie for us, just mentioning it). Biggest con for us, was the price. With fees and taxes, we paid $50/night for our 3 night stay which we felt was pricey for what it was. We would give this property 7.5 stars. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts Yogi on the Lake, Pelahatchie, Mississippi

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Mixed feelings on this campground. Pros: good price (we paid $26 with a Good Sam discount for a 50 amp full hook-up site). Lots for the kids to do: playground, putt-putt, large swim/splash area. No road noise, but only a few minutes off the interstate. Gas station with diesel/truck bays at the same exit. Most of the staff was friendly. Cons: interior roads are really rough in areas (very bumpy), sites are not level, common area could be a little cleaner, and the swim area is looking very worn down. Grass/weeds around sites really needed to be cut. Biggest frustration for us, we made a same day reservation with plans to arrive late (10p-11p). We requested a pull-through site and were told that only a back-in was available. Now, keep in mind it's dark, some of the roads are really rough and the sites are not level...it took us quite a while to get into our site (all while our diesel truck was probably waking up some neighbors). We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts Yogi on the Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

Jellystone Park at Coyote Ranch RV Resort, Wichita Falls, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $67.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is wonderful for families as there is a lot for little ones to do. It's pricey, so not a place you'd visit often...but if you're looking for somewhere extra special for the kids in Wichita Falls, this is it. We have a 40' fifth wheel and stayed in a pull through. Nice space, close but not too close to your neighbors. No trees, very open...so that may or may not be a pro. Bathhouse was clean. There are individual bathrooms, which are great for families as you can have the kids go potty, shower and brush their teeth all in your private area. There was not a changing table in the room I used. Laundry room is in the same area as tha bathrooms, so you could do laundry while getting everyone ready for bed. Now, having said all of this, there are only a couple of bathhouses, so they might get busy. They were not, when I used them...but it was late (around 9:30p). Property has two small pools, a really nice splash area, putt/putt that is well maintained, a very nice playground and a fun maze. There are also some sweet animals on property that you can say hi too. And the office has weekend activities scheduled. Staff was nice and the property was clean. At&t service was strong. Trash is picked up, from your site, at 10a. Check out was 12noon, so you'll have time in the morning for the kids to play. If we're ever in the area again, we will definitely stay again. We camped at Jellystone Park at Coyote Ranch RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Very pretty State Park. Area is dry, so landscaping reflects that. Nice space between sites. Full hook-ups, except no cable. Sure was level. Roads are easy to navigate in our 40' rig. Laundry is $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry. I would have given this Park a 10, but I don't like little fees being added here and there. We had to pay $10 for our two nights, when reserving online. Then we arrived and had to pay $7/day ($14 total) for a "park pass." These two fees made the $30 nightly rate, $42 per night.

If they had had a pool, a larger playground, cable and did not charge for showers in the one bathhouse (that was large and clean), this property would be a 10 for us. Only rated it lower for the added fees. But if you're okay with those, you'll be happy here as it is a nice State Park. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Estes Park Campground at Marys Lake, Estes Park, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Mixed feelings on this campground. First, we found all of the campgrounds in Estes Park to be expensive; this park was no exception. We stayed in a 50amp pull-through site. They had two rows of pull-through sites, probably a total of 20-30 sites in those two rows. We would stay in a pull-through site again however, the back-in sites had zero privacy, so we would not stay in one of those. The pull through sites are gravel with a cement patio, a nice fire pit and a large picnic table. Decent space between sites. No cable. The tent sites looked pretty rough. Amenities: Nice, but very small, pool. Nice playground area for the kids. Bathhouse was very clean. They do charge for showers ($2 for 6 minutes)....that was a new one for us, but we figured that they do this, as so many dry camp in the area and probably come on property, to use the showers. We had no problem with the roads into the campground, fit just fine pulling our 40' fifth wheel. We camped at Estes Park Campground at Marys Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

A very nice park. Sites have room between them and the landscaping is lovely. The entire property is very clean and the staff, extremely nice. Nice pool, game room, putt-putt and playground. Roads are easy to navigate. Property is quiet. Good AT&T service. Walking distance to Costco and several other stores. We would differently stay here again. A very nice visit. Livingston / Paradise Valley KOA, Livingston, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed one night; would have stayed more if we were visiting Yellowstone. Staff was very nice and property was beautiful. Some of the sites were snug with not a lot of privacy, but we were able to fit our truck and 40' fifth wheel (opposing slides) just fine. Nice indoor pool and playground, which the kids loved. Paid $56 with tax (with KOA discount) fir a 50amp full hook-up which is pricey. Property was quiet. All-in-all, a very nice stay. We camped at Livingston / Paradise Valley KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Buffalo KOA , Buffalo, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Very, very nice little KOA. About 2-3 minutes off the interstate, so close but no road noise. Sites are nice sized with decent spacing between them. Property was VERY clean and well maintained and the staff were super sweet. Truly a very nice stop. Would definitely stay here again. This one is a KOA gem. Gave it 9 out of 10 because $42 (with tax, but after KOA discount) is a bit pricey for the site we chose (30 amp w/e only)...but, then again, it was such a nice little park that I'd rather pay a few dollars more for a quality stay. We camped in a 40' fifth wheel and did not unhitch. We camped at Buffalo KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Sioux City North KOA, North Sioux City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Typical KOA with respect to sites. Close together with no privacy however I can say that the pull through fit our truck and rig, without requiring us to unhitch. We had no problems opening our slides. Office staff was nice. Bathhouse was clean. Property has several long term tenants that do not help with the property's value. Property was close to the intereste, but the road noise was not too bad (which was helpful as I am a light sleeper). We found this KOA to be too expensive, for what it is. The roads are gravel and the landscaping is moderate at best. The pool was small, but not too bad...however, the water was very cloudy. Some attention was needed there. The biggest frustration, was that there was an additional coast for the amenities. The pool and playground are included in your camping , but if your kids want to play putt-putt or even jump on the bounce pillow, you have to pay $10 for a wristband! $51/night (with a KOA membership discount) and you have to pay additional for family activities? For us, just not worth it. We don't be back. We camped at Sioux City North KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Fern Lake Campground, Paducah, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Owners are very nice and the property is well maintained. Bathhouse was clean and water pressure strong. Several long-term tenants. Pilot truck stop off the same exit, which was very convenient. Quiet night sleep. We heard no road or truck noise, which was nice as I'm a light sleeper. The only reason I gave the property a 7, was $34 is a bit high for what it is. Your spot is basically a parking spot on a gravel road. There is no privacy, no cable and no property amenities (except a couple swings and a pretty pond which my children did enjoy). It really is geared towards long term tenants and people like us, stopping for a quick overnight. Had it been $25, I would have given the property a 9. We camped at Fern Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
