Usery Mountain Regional Park, Mesa, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is our 4th visit here. The gravel spaces are large, almost like having no neighbors, and reasonably level. Water and electric, nice restrooms and showers. No full hookup sites. Antenna picks up many TV stations, including all three major networks. As in most parks, no WiFi, but good cell phone reception. Practically in the city of Mesa, so easy shopping. Lots of hiking opportunities. The Visitors Center is good, with the added benefit of having scheduled nature programs. Very popular, so think ahead and make reservations as soon as you know when you want to visit. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome. Mesa / Apache Junction KOA, Apache Junction, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Apache Junction KOA... is a nice clean and orderly desert style KOA... Management seems curt, but not really unfriendly. What I look for in a campground are sites that I can get into and out of reasonably easily, full hookups, WiFi that works, reception of network TV (no cable needed), a location with cell phone reception, and at least pet-tolerant. This campground meets all of that except for the WiFi, which exists in name only. It is basically useless. Well, completely useless really, and they are aware of it. They were aware of it last year as well, and there has been no improvement. WiFi is not available at your coach, it is not usable in the club house, and it is barely usable at the office building. Other campers I spoke to experienced the same thing. I am not talking about being able to stream movies or keep up on Facebook... just the ability to keep in touch with family and friends. Not every campground can have WiFi, but if they present themselves as having that service, it should be available. Otherwise, say you don't have WiFi. Be honest. Someone choosing a KOA campground, instead of just any old campground along the way, is expecting an accurate description of the facility. It is for this reason that I would not return here and have given this rating. We camped at Mesa / Apache Junction KOA in a Motorhome.

Gilbert Ray Campground / Tucson Mountain Park, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a no frills desert campground almost in the city, good desert hiking, and within a very short drive to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. It is well located and well managed, the gravel sites are nice and not too close to each other, sites are electric only but there are water supply points to fill your containers... Cell service is extremely iffy and of course there is no WiFi in these parks, so if you need to be in touch with the outside world you may or may not have an issue. I was able to pick up a few odd TV stations, but only one of the three major networks. We camped at Gilbert Ray Campground / Tucson Mountain Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Willcox RV Park, Willcox, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here a few years ago, and would not have pulled in this year had I completely remembered that instance... but now (2018) this place has a new owner and things are different. Sites are roomy, the surface is now good clean gravel, level sites, there is now cable TV that works, and there is Wifi that is strong and dependable. The laundry has been improved and things just look better in general. Access is easy, off the Interstate, and the Willcox area is a good place for a base to go to Chiricahua if you don't want to camp out there. This is a Passport America park, which makes the already acceptable rate even better. We camped at Fort Willcox RV Park in a Motorhome.

West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA, Gretna, Nebraska

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Just an overnight, so didn't use any amenities. Hookups good, cable included, WiFi actually reaches my site (about 6 spaces from office) and they say it will reach all the sites. Not far off the Interstate, so cell reception is good. These little things matter when traveling. We camped at West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA in a Motorhome.

Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area, Show Low, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice clean sites, concrete pads, good hookups, very pleasant area. Not all loops have sewer. I was unable to get cell service, but perhaps a different carrier would give different results. This may not be important to everyone. If this matters to you, being almost in town, I expected to be able to get enough TV to have some news, but could only get Judge Judy and some old Star Wars. Perhaps a site with a slightly different orientation would make a difference. Public radio station came in well. $35.00 plus $5 reservation fee. Restroom/showers looked good, but I didn't use them. We camped at Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tucson / Lazydays KOA, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Nice facility. The fitness room is really good...that makes two so far this trip that have really impressed us with the quality and variety of their equipment. Nice laundry... all the amenities looked good. WiFi worked well in my site, about 4 spaces down from the office. I suspect that it may even work well further out. My antenna was picking up multiple TV channels, but I didn't spend a lot of time exploring them because cable is included. Cell service was good. Shopping is nearby. Gravel sites with concrete patios- with table and chairs. All nice and clean. We had one of the sites with grass. That and a lemon tree made the puppy feel right at home. Refreshingly, I could carry my pup into the office at this KOA - that is welcome because sometimes you just need to pop in to ask a question or get something from the store. Our site was nice and wide, but as I recall from a few years ago, even the back-in site we had gave us ample width. We camped at Tucson / Lazydays KOA in a Motorhome.

Distant Drums RV Resort, Camp Verde, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

A popular place, so thinking ahead is a good idea. There is free ONP down by the casino. Very clean park, nice campsites with concrete pads. WiFi only within a short radius of office now, but they say it will be greatly improved and able to reach everyone later this month. Cell service was OK. Nice laundry, but only 4 washers and two were out of order. Very efficient parking assistance - almost all sites are back in. They have cable, but I easily received antenna TV. This campground has the BEST FITNESS ROOM I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A CAMPGROUND. They don't give it a very big space, but they have quality equipment plus a good assortment of free weights. We camped at Distant Drums RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Once out of the park you are within 10 minutes of metro Mesa, with easy access to the shopping you probably need, like grocery and box stores. Our rig is short so we don't tow, but a big rig with a toad would have no difficulty.

Gila County RV Park, Globe, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We pulled in for one night, and ended up staying a week. It is hardly fancy, just a local RV park, no frills, pleasant management, ideally placed to explore the area around Globe. We could easily stay here because the WiFi was strong and dependable, which really makes a difference when you are on the road for weeks at a time. Most sites have sewer, ours was water and electric only, but there is a dump. Everything worked. Another desert campground, on the sand and gravel. Many long term residents, mainly because of the proximity to the mine. Maybe a half dozen or so 'drop ins.' Easy walking to grocery store and downtown shops. We camped at Gila County RV Park in a Motorhome.

Mesa / Apache Junction KOA, Apache Junction, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty typical desert campground in layout, but more greenery than I expected. Conveniently located to Mesa. Obviously new power posts, water source in good condition, conveniently places sewer, nice level site. Kept clean, but of course with no paved campsites, one is always camping in the dust and grit, so hard to keep rig clean. My one complaint, not specific to this campground alone, but certainly true here, is that while they claim to have WiFi, in reality that is not the case. Yes, there is WiFi on the property, but like so many places that claim to provide this amenity, you have to sit in the laundry room or rest room or some such place to get any connectivity. The WiFi situation means that I will not stay here again, although that may not be important to others. We camped at Mesa / Apache Junction KOA in a Motorhome.

Queen Mine RV Park, Bisbee, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Walking distance to town, full hookup, great view, WiFi adequate and library is within walking distance, cost appropriate, small, need to reserve early. Bisbee is an artsy, fun, clean town... good food... pleasant surroundings. Very dog friendly in park and in town. Just walk down the hill for a very well done mine tour. I can't remember the site number so guessed - there are only 20+ in a circle, all basically the same. All back-in. We camped at Queen Mine RV Park in a Motorhome.
