Fort Collins / Lakeside KOA , Fort Collins, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Maybe the best KOA we've stayed at. Lots of activities available - pool, lake w/ boats, minigolf, walking trails, kid park, etc, etc. Sites are mostly back-in and a little small for big rigs. But there was lots of shade, patios in many and even several with hot tubs at some sites. Restrooms were clean and very available. The people handling reservations (mostly workkampers) were friendly and accommodating to late reservations. Overall an excellent place to stay on the north side of Ft Collins, a very nice little city. We camped at Fort Collins / Lakeside KOA in a Motorhome.

Fort Welikit Family Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has excellent access to Custer State Park, especially the Sylvan Lake area. Its also well situated for Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Wind Cave NP. The campground is on the side of a hill so most sites were tiered. The ones at the bottom, like us, get flooded out with heavy rains. Most sites were back-in with just enough room for the MH and tow. Sites were generally level dirt/gravel or silty at the bottom. There are about 6 restrooms that have both showers and toilets. Sometimes there was a wait. Bathroom floors were dirty and wet, which didn't work well after showering. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Badlands / White River KOA, Interior, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA is located in a tree-line ravine just south of the Badlands Park. It looked like the best campground compared to others servicing the park because all the others seemed completely out in the open and pretty sparse. This was nicely shaded with grassy areas. Site were level gravel, although they could have been better cared for. Like most KOAs it was not luxurious but had lots going on - pool, game area, dog park. It was good to have a lot of kids around rather than only retirees like us. There were all types of campers from tents to large motorhomes. Restrooms were clean, although they could have used more. Cell phone and internet service were non-existent in this valley. Its also far from "civilization". We had a vet emergency which required driving 1.5 hrs to Rapid City (everything worked out okay in the end). We camped at Badlands / White River KOA in a Motorhome.

Camp America Campground, Salem, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Another very nice, quiet campground in SD. Clean, level gravel sites. Sites were long and easily fit the motorhome and tow. Ours had a 2-picnic table gazebo with the wifi antenna on the roof - great internet. Lots of nice shade, grass and landscaping throughout the campground. 35 min west of Sioux Falls but worth the travel. We camped at Camp America Campground in a Motorhome.

Oakwood RV Park, Clear Lake, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice and quiet campground. Good value. Lots of flat gravel pull-through spaces for big rigs, most unoccupied or for a few overnighters like us. Most sites were shaded with good utilities. Restrooms were clean with adequate showers, but bathroom building is somewhat old and unfinished. The big problem with this place is finding it. DO NOT RELY ON GPS - not even close and no clear directions! They should add their long/lat coordinates to their website. Until then you must call to have them "guide you in". We camped at Oakwood RV Park in a Motorhome.

Double J Campground and RV Park, Chatham, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really nice campground! Lots of space for big rigs and others, but shaded and private. The pool, mini golf, and numerous games and fields offer a lot to do. Everything is very well maintained. Service is prompt and excellent. Wifi is great for a campground. Restrooms are clean and nice. There is even a long, wooded walking trail around the campground. The gravel on the driveway is packed with rounded stones that don't track into your RV. They have all the bases covered whether you're looking for staying for an extended period or one night stop-over. This is conveniently located off Rt 55 just south of the city with easy access to attractions and shopping. We camped at Double J Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Thousand Trails / Chestnut Lake, Port Republic, New Jersey

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

In fairness, they opened specially in early Nov for our club rally, so I can't criticize too much for the lack of services. But I was not impressed. Sites were generally small (short) for larger rigs, especially when adjacent to seasonal people. We felt like we were too close to the road. Several grassy sites were soft w/ depressions that could collect water after rains. Newly redone sandy sites had very deep loose sand - several people had a little trouble pulling in and leveling. We had to move from our first site because the water wouldn't turn on. Neighboring seasonal people dominated water and cable connections. Roads along the side were tree covered but branches hung down too low for us. The bathrooms in the main building had only 1 toilet and 2 showers each, although there was a second, maybe larger restroom building, which was closed while we were there. I wouldn't call the main building restrooms clean but not dirty either. The pool was new with a large nice patio. Its probably nice during the summer. They have 2 nice banquet rooms for parties, which we took advantage of for our large group. If you haven't been here before, drive around to check out the site size and spacing before parking, especially with rigs over 35'. Overall we probably wouldn't stay here again because the pool and communal areas didn't compensate for the conditions of the sites. We camped at Thousand Trails / Chestnut Lake in a Motorhome.

Pine Cove Beach Resort, Charleroi, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is conveniently located off Rt 70 in western PA. The sites are spacious and well maintained with nice gravel pads, large grassy areas on the sides and back, some adjacent to a pond. The main attraction here is the pool club, which was closed when we were there. As a result the campground was quiet with mostly seasonal or long-term campers. We reserved the site by leaving a message the day before and never met anyone at registration. Restrooms are clean. There is only one working washing machine and no change machine to use it. Overall it's convenient to use, if passing through.

Parking of large rigs for registration is not convenient. We were not given a site map and no one was present at registration, so we chose to disconnect to get into the campground because the entrance is not clearly marked. The keypad to open the campground gate is too low to be used from the driver window of a Class A - we had to have 1 person do it from the ground. We camped at Pine Cove Beach Resort in a Motorhome.

Muscatatuck Park, North Vernon, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice little park in southern Indiana. There are only about 8 sites that can accommodate large rigs. But they are relatively spacious and nice with full hookups. The smaller sites are in the woods, and are also very nice for small to mid-sized trailers and tents. Almost no one was staying there the Sunday night we stayed. That made it very private. Bathrooms were dirty and we didn't use the showers because of it.

Park staff are only available Mon-Thurs. But we were able to book the site the next day by asking for a call-back on their voicemail. The campground and park access road is a little narrow and curvy for large rigs. So we disconnected and drove the car ahead to watch for traffic - maybe not totally necessary. We camped at Muscatatuck Park in a Motorhome.

Chatfield State Park, Littleton, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here only 1 night passing through Denver with a 35' MH. We would have preferred Cherry Creek SP because it is better shaded. But Chatfield is equivalent in every other respect - nice (pay) showers and bathrooms, paved parking pads, nice gravel picnic area with table, smaller evergreens which give privacy but not relief from the sun. Nice view of foothills in the morning. We still prefer Cherry Creek but this is very nice as a second choice. We're happy with Colorado State Parks, except the pay showers. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

St. Louis N.E. / I-270 / Granite City KOA, Granite City, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

We just stayed 1 night passing thru Rt 70E/270. Roadways and sites are gravel and level for a large motorhome. Hookups were adequate, except that our cable connection didn't work. Sites were mostly shaded by large trees, although slightly tight and not well defined - my slideouts hung over my neighbor's picnic table and carpet (who were generous to themselves with their spacing). As others have mentioned, the campground is surrounded by industrial and trucking facilities. However, the campground is ringed by trees and fencing, and we really couldn't see or hear activities at those places. Traffic noise from surrounding highways and railways was moderate and consistent but not very loud. The price was a little high for the campsite size and industrial area of the campground. But it was convenient when needed when none others were available on our route. KOAs usually meet expectations but are not luxurious. Reservations were easy to make and we were led to our site by the pleasant site attendant. My GPS was not able to find KOA either by address or lat/long. That's probably because it's inside the driveway of some type of industrial or construction business area. But it was not hard to find following signs off exit 3A of 270. Under similar circumstances, we would stay here again. We camped at St. Louis N.E. / I-270 / Granite City KOA in a Motorhome.

Salina KOA, Salina, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Driveways and sites are gravel, but firm and level, with a small grassy area and picnic table. Most of the campground was shaded with large trees. Distance between sites for large vehicles was not luxurious but adequate. It is right off Rt 70 so there is traffic nearby, although we weren't bothered by noise. Overall it was a good stay and pleasant surroundings. We camped at Salina KOA in a Motorhome.

Canyonlands RV Resort & Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are mostly gravel with a concrete pad - a bit tight but more than many others we have stayed at. The concrete pad is a bit narrow for a big Class A, although okay for a smaller RV. Parking of tow vehicles was very limited, usually in the narrow driveways or in back of the picnic table. There is only 1 shower facility for all these sites with only 3 showers each for men and women - very limited. We frequently had to wait for showers during normal "rush" hours. This situation definitely need improvement. The entry from the south is a very tight turn to the right with limited space to park to register. The real value in this RV park is the proximity to downtown Moab, about 0.5 mi south and a short drive. We camped at Canyonlands RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

When driving up from the south be aware that the right turn into the campground is very tight over a narrow gradual curb. Then there's the General Store that must be avoided by going further to the right. If you have a large Class A with tow, there is very limited parking near the registration building. If others precede you, parts of your rig may extend into the road at that right-hand turn.

Goulding's Lodge & Campground, Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

The Goulding lodging and campground facilities seemed to have grown tremendously in the last 10 yrs when my family was last there. Campground sites were still well spaced with small trees usually between sites and adequate hookups. Restrooms were clean and well maintained. Access to Navajo tours was right there and convenient. If you're visiting Monument Valley, Goulding is a good place to stay. We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Decent RV park to stay at right outside Cedar Breaks NM. It's located on Main St., right off Rt 15 with easy access to shopping, etc in town. Cedar Breaks is about 30 min away. Road noise was heavy on Main St. on weekday mornings. Sites are spacious with gravel driveway, concrete patios, picnic table, small lawn area and lots of shade trees where we were. There are no fire pits in individual sites. We camped at Cedar City KOA in a Motorhome.
