Glenwood Canyon Resort, Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We were not impressed at all. Service was horrible. The RV campground could be much better considering the Colorado River is right there and hills around the canyon. First their credit card machines weren't working, causing some "miscommunications" about what had been paid toward the deposit. But their voicemail messages were not clear about who they were or what they wanted, causing some problems related to our reservation. Then we waited 10 minutes at check-in while the 2 registration people, alone in their small office/store, reorganized the ice cream and soda machines in front of us instead of checking us in. Surely even one person could have acknowledged me? The campground area is mostly gravel with small shade trees separating a concrete patio and table. Its okay, but not the quality of other similar campgrounds at this cost, even though we were off-season. The Colorado River is right at the perimeter of the campground a hundred feet down from the big rig area. They don't do a good job of making it viewable or accessible from this upper campground, such as a nice walking trail along the side, which would be relatively easy and inexpensive I think. In fact the view to the river was separated by a bus and utility vehicle parking area. They even charged $5/day for our dog but didn't even provide a dog park or any level walking area that we could find except on gravel. Restrooms were old and dirty with stained bare concrete floors. Toilets and urinals were damaged or inoperable. Restrooms were not up to the quality you would expect that this price. Wifi was non-existent except in the laundry room. The only redeeming part was the nice campground area for tents and smaller RVs at the bottom along the river. We camped at Glenwood Canyon Resort in a Motorhome.

Portal RV Resort and Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here only one night and didn't use amenities like the pool, so our review may not be complete. But sites were clean, well maintained, with patio and picnic table. Most of the rigs here were larger Class As. It seemed to offer larger, nicer spaces than other campgrounds in Moab. We camped at Portal RV Resort and Campground in a Motorhome.

Slow down when entering the driveway. With several driveways nearby, its hard to tell which is for the campground, and the entry roadway is a little rough.

Blue Mountain RV Park, Blanding, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed only one night and didn't expect much in this area of Utah, which is somewhat sparse. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and value. Sites were nice level gravel, most with large grassy areas, many with at least small shade trees. It looked like the campground was adding more sites and common areas with grass. There were beautiful sunset views of the open Utah landscape to the west. Restrooms and showers were clean and well maintained. This is a good place to stay on Route 191 between Monument Valley and Moab. Note that the entrance is on the north end of the campground if entering from the south. Site 10 had a large grass area and a little shade. We camped at Blue Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Lo Lo Mai Springs Outdoor Resort, Cornville, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Lo Lo Mai Springs is a small oasis of water, trees and grass in an otherwise arid area SW of Sedona. The campground accommodates almost all sizes of RV, except perhaps the largest rigs, as well as trailers, tents and numerous cabins along the streams, pond and Oak Creek. RV pads are mostly dirt, although there are usually large concrete patios with picnic tables with grill surrounded by grass. Interior roadways are mostly dirt. The main access driveway from the roadway is paved with many speed bumps. It is narrow with many overhanging branches that rub the tops of large RVs as you come in. Once into the campground the roads are more navigable. All the tall trees provide lots of nice shade. Sites are spacious and the campground was quiet in late September. We didn't use the pool, although it looked nice. Overall this is a good choice for people looking to visit Sedona only 15 min away. Be prepared for entering off the main road with lots of narrow switchbacks. The driveway entrance is a little tight. Tall RVs should stay toward the center of the driveway to avoid many overhanging branches. We camped at Lo Lo Mai Springs Outdoor Resort in a Motorhome.

J & H RV Park (55 + Park), Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

J&H is a nice place to camp east of Flagstaff, convenient to town and the Sunset Crater Volcano. Sites are large and level gravel with lots of room for both a large rig and tow vehicle. Most sites are shaded by mature trees. Restrooms and showers are very clean. There are group picnic and meeting areas with patios and fountains. The campground is not well marked on Rt 89. It is easy to pass by and somewhat hard to turn a large rig around. Stay in left lane when close and look for a small camper sign on the right just before the park. We camped at J & H RV Park (55 + Park) in a Motorhome.

Mesa Verde RV Resort, Mancos, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Only 1/2 mi to the entrance of Mesa Verde NP and visitor center. The all-gravel sites and roadways are well maintained but slightly sloped. Some roadways were a little narrow depending on towed parking. The group picnic area was nice with 2 grills, tables and firepit, as well as a pool and hot tub (for adults only) nearby. Individual sites are well shaded by mature trees except a few gigantic sites at the top level, which were open. The restrooms and showers were very clean and modern with plenty of shower changing area. Wifi was good enough for Google searches, etc. Overall this was a pleasant campground to stay at and convenient to services. We camped at Mesa Verde RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Bayfield Riverside RV Park, Bayfield, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Bayfield Riverview is a very beautiful campground in southwestern Colorado. The campground is beautifully landscaped with many flowers, trees, fishing ponds and streams, and many large areas with lots of green grass. This is the first time in many weeks our dog got to run free and roll around on nice grass. Staff and the owner are very friendly and attentive. Bathrooms and showers were large, clean and well maintained. Showers were spacious. Even Wifi was great. This is a great place to stay near Durango. Very relaxing in beautiful surroundings. We camped at Bayfield Riverside RV Park in a Motorhome.

Peacock Meadows Riverside RV Park, South Fork, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Peacock Meadows is a very nice campground off Rt 160 just east of South Fork. It is well maintained and staff are very friendly and attentive. They are always working on the grounds and buildings. There are only 2 family style bathrooms for the entire campground. But there was never a wait to get in and the bathrooms were probably the nicest we've ever seen in a campground, with nice tile, Asian style furniture and a large roman shower. There was a lot of room for all sizes of rigs with generous space. Although sites were gravel and dirt, not really any grass. There are walking trails into wooded areas leading to a private pond and the banks of the Rio Grande River, both quiet areas with benches for seating and picnicking. This beautiful river area wasn't even used except by us. The river area alone makes it worth staying here again. Wifi was spotty at best and almost unusable. My only real negative is about how sparse the campground is of trees. There is no shade in intense sun at 8200 ft elevation. We thought the back-in sites along the edges were a bit more private than the interior pull-thru sites. We camped at Peacock Meadows Riverside RV Park in a Motorhome.

Goldfield RV Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

A small RV park along Rt 24 between Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. This makes it convenient to local attractions. The park is right off 24 so there is constant loud traffic noise. Sites are extremely close, yet they squeeze large motorhomes and 5th wheels in. Slides almost go post to post - there is no outside living space at all, rather hardly room to walk between rigs. Restrooms are clean. However, the multiple showers use one or two common dressing stalls where clothing and personal items must be kept together if others are showering. This is a last resort campground when there are no other options. We camped at Goldfield RV Park in a Motorhome.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Larkspur, Larkspur, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

The entire campground is built on the sides of some hills. Dusty, rutted dirt roads lead up to unlevel dirt sites. Although dense, low trees provided privacy from other sites almost everywhere. Regardless Route 25 is continuously very noisy at all times of day and night. Bathrooms are clean but worn. Restrooms are scarce - you may have to walk possibly long distances up/down hill on uneven dirt roads at night to restrooms and showers. They'll "generously" rent you golf carts at $45-$55/day to ease the trip up and down hill to the pool and "ranger station". Camping with kids is the only reason to stay here unless you have to. Call for reservations because you may not get discounts, like Good Sam, when doing on-line. Once reservation made no discount is available. We stayed in the new section under construction. It seemed spacious but not appealing. We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Larkspur in a Motorhome.

Fort Collins / Lakeside KOA , Fort Collins, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Maybe the best KOA we've stayed at. Lots of activities available - pool, lake w/ boats, minigolf, walking trails, kid park, etc, etc. Sites are mostly back-in and a little small for big rigs. But there was lots of shade, patios in many and even several with hot tubs at some sites. Restrooms were clean and very available. The people handling reservations (mostly workkampers) were friendly and accommodating to late reservations. Overall an excellent place to stay on the north side of Ft Collins, a very nice little city. We camped at Fort Collins / Lakeside KOA in a Motorhome.

Fort Welikit Family Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has excellent access to Custer State Park, especially the Sylvan Lake area. Its also well situated for Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Wind Cave NP. The campground is on the side of a hill so most sites were tiered. The ones at the bottom, like us, get flooded out with heavy rains. Most sites were back-in with just enough room for the MH and tow. Sites were generally level dirt/gravel or silty at the bottom. There are about 6 restrooms that have both showers and toilets. Sometimes there was a wait. Bathroom floors were dirty and wet, which didn't work well after showering. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Badlands / White River KOA, Interior, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA is located in a tree-line ravine just south of the Badlands Park. It looked like the best campground compared to others servicing the park because all the others seemed completely out in the open and pretty sparse. This was nicely shaded with grassy areas. Site were level gravel, although they could have been better cared for. Like most KOAs it was not luxurious but had lots going on - pool, game area, dog park. It was good to have a lot of kids around rather than only retirees like us. There were all types of campers from tents to large motorhomes. Restrooms were clean, although they could have used more. Cell phone and internet service were non-existent in this valley. Its also far from "civilization". We had a vet emergency which required driving 1.5 hrs to Rapid City (everything worked out okay in the end). We camped at Badlands / White River KOA in a Motorhome.

Dakota Sunsets RV Park and Campground, Salem, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Another very nice, quiet campground in SD. Clean, level gravel sites. Sites were long and easily fit the motorhome and tow. Ours had a 2-picnic table gazebo with the wifi antenna on the roof - great internet. Lots of nice shade, grass and landscaping throughout the campground. 35 min west of Sioux Falls but worth the travel. We camped at Dakota Sunsets RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Oakwood RV Park, Clear Lake, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice and quiet campground. Good value. Lots of flat gravel pull-through spaces for big rigs, most unoccupied or for a few overnighters like us. Most sites were shaded with good utilities. Restrooms were clean with adequate showers, but bathroom building is somewhat old and unfinished. The big problem with this place is finding it. DO NOT RELY ON GPS - not even close and no clear directions! They should add their long/lat coordinates to their website. Until then you must call to have them "guide you in".
