Thousand Trails / Chestnut Lake, Port Republic, New Jersey

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

In fairness, they opened specially in early Nov for our club rally, so I can't criticize too much for the lack of services. But I was not impressed. Sites were generally small (short) for larger rigs, especially when adjacent to seasonal people. We felt like we were too close to the road. Several grassy sites were soft w/ depressions that could collect water after rains. Newly redone sandy sites had very deep loose sand - several people had a little trouble pulling in and leveling. We had to move from our first site because the water wouldn't turn on. Neighboring seasonal people dominated water and cable connections. Roads along the side were tree covered but branches hung down too low for us. The bathrooms in the main building had only 1 toilet and 2 showers each, although there was a second, maybe larger restroom building, which was closed while we were there. I wouldn't call the main building restrooms clean but not dirty either. The pool was new with a large nice patio. Its probably nice during the summer. They have 2 nice banquet rooms for parties, which we took advantage of for our large group. If you haven't been here before, drive around to check out the site size and spacing before parking, especially with rigs over 35'. Overall we probably wouldn't stay here again because the pool and communal areas didn't compensate for the conditions of the sites. We camped at Thousand Trails / Chestnut Lake in a Motorhome.

Pine Cove Beach Resort, Charleroi, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is conveniently located off Rt 70 in western PA. The sites are spacious and well maintained with nice gravel pads, large grassy areas on the sides and back, some adjacent to a pond. The main attraction here is the pool club, which was closed when we were there. As a result the campground was quiet with mostly seasonal or long-term campers. We reserved the site by leaving a message the day before and never met anyone at registration. Restrooms are clean. There is only one working washing machine and no change machine to use it. Overall it's convenient to use, if passing through.

Parking of large rigs for registration is not convenient. We were not given a site map and no one was present at registration, so we chose to disconnect to get into the campground because the entrance is not clearly marked. The keypad to open the campground gate is too low to be used from the driver window of a Class A - we had to have 1 person do it from the ground. We camped at Pine Cove Beach Resort in a Motorhome.

Muscatatuck Park, North Vernon, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice little park in southern Indiana. There are only about 8 sites that can accommodate large rigs. But they are relatively spacious and nice with full hookups. The smaller sites are in the woods, and are also very nice for small to mid-sized trailers and tents. Almost no one was staying there the Sunday night we stayed. That made it very private. Bathrooms were dirty and we didn't use the showers because of it.

Park staff are only available Mon-Thurs. But we were able to book the site the next day by asking for a call-back on their voicemail. The campground and park access road is a little narrow and curvy for large rigs. So we disconnected and drove the car ahead to watch for traffic - maybe not totally necessary. We camped at Muscatatuck Park in a Motorhome.

Chatfield State Park, Littleton, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here only 1 night passing through Denver with a 35' MH. We would have preferred Cherry Creek SP because it is better shaded. But Chatfield is equivalent in every other respect - nice (pay) showers and bathrooms, paved parking pads, nice gravel picnic area with table, smaller evergreens which give privacy but not relief from the sun. Nice view of foothills in the morning. We still prefer Cherry Creek but this is very nice as a second choice. We're happy with Colorado State Parks, except the pay showers. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

St. Louis N.E. / I-270 / Granite City KOA, Granite City, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

We just stayed 1 night passing thru Rt 70E/270. Roadways and sites are gravel and level for a large motorhome. Hookups were adequate, except that our cable connection didn't work. Sites were mostly shaded by large trees, although slightly tight and not well defined - my slideouts hung over my neighbor's picnic table and carpet (who were generous to themselves with their spacing). As others have mentioned, the campground is surrounded by industrial and trucking facilities. However, the campground is ringed by trees and fencing, and we really couldn't see or hear activities at those places. Traffic noise from surrounding highways and railways was moderate and consistent but not very loud. The price was a little high for the campsite size and industrial area of the campground. But it was convenient when needed when none others were available on our route. KOAs usually meet expectations but are not luxurious. Reservations were easy to make and we were led to our site by the pleasant site attendant. My GPS was not able to find KOA either by address or lat/long. That's probably because it's inside the driveway of some type of industrial or construction business area. But it was not hard to find following signs off exit 3A of 270. Under similar circumstances, we would stay here again. We camped at St. Louis N.E. / I-270 / Granite City KOA in a Motorhome.

Salina KOA, Salina, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Driveways and sites are gravel, but firm and level, with a small grassy area and picnic table. Most of the campground was shaded with large trees. Distance between sites for large vehicles was not luxurious but adequate. It is right off Rt 70 so there is traffic nearby, although we weren't bothered by noise. Overall it was a good stay and pleasant surroundings. We camped at Salina KOA in a Motorhome.

Canyonlands RV Resort & Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are mostly gravel with a concrete pad - a bit tight but more than many others we have stayed at. The concrete pad is a bit narrow for a big Class A, although okay for a smaller RV. Parking of tow vehicles was very limited, usually in the narrow driveways or in back of the picnic table. There is only 1 shower facility for all these sites with only 3 showers each for men and women - very limited. We frequently had to wait for showers during normal "rush" hours. This situation definitely need improvement. The entry from the south is a very tight turn to the right with limited space to park to register. The real value in this RV park is the proximity to downtown Moab, about 0.5 mi south and a short drive. We camped at Canyonlands RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

When driving up from the south be aware that the right turn into the campground is very tight over a narrow gradual curb. Then there's the General Store that must be avoided by going further to the right. If you have a large Class A with tow, there is very limited parking near the registration building. If others precede you, parts of your rig may extend into the road at that right-hand turn.

Goulding's Lodge & Campground, Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

The Goulding lodging and campground facilities seemed to have grown tremendously in the last 10 yrs when my family was last there. Campground sites were still well spaced with small trees usually between sites and adequate hookups. Restrooms were clean and well maintained. Access to Navajo tours was right there and convenient. If you're visiting Monument Valley, Goulding is a good place to stay. We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Cedar City KOA, Cedar City, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Decent RV park to stay at right outside Cedar Breaks NM. It's located on Main St., right off Rt 15 with easy access to shopping, etc in town. Cedar Breaks is about 30 min away. Road noise was heavy on Main St. on weekday mornings. Sites are spacious with gravel driveway, concrete patios, picnic table, small lawn area and lots of shade trees where we were. There are no fire pits in individual sites. We camped at Cedar City KOA in a Motorhome.

Ruby's Inn RV Park and Campground, Bryce Canyon, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

This campground and inn has grown tremendously in the past 10 yrs. The campground is huge. Sites are nice gravel although some are significantly sloped. The big rig sites in the back are open with a small patch of grass. We were given a pull through site up front under the trees at first. However it was too small for our 35' class A MH and tree branches rubbed on the top. So we had to move to the open big rig sites in the back. The registration people are not familiar with parking large RVs and recommended 2 other sites that were too small with low hanging trees. It's best if you check out the site first before trying to drive the RV there first if you have a large one. We camped at Ruby's Inn RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Thousand Lakes RV Park, Torrey, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice, scenic RV park about 11 mi. to the west of Capitol Reef NP. Sites are spacious and shaded with small to medium trees. Nice gift shop. Great views of cliffs and hills outside Capitol Reef. We stayed here about 12 yrs ago. It has improved and gotten largers. Try the nice BBQ dinner they make in the pavilion - delicious meal, great value. We camped at Thousand Lakes RV Park in a Motorhome.

Loveland RV Resort, Loveland, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is conveniently located off of Rt 25 in Loveland. All the sites are shaded by tall mature trees. There is a playground, pool, mini golf and dog run. Restrooms are clean. Showers are nice. The back grassy areas of the park are occupied by seasonal campers. The front gravel areas (with no grass) are used for nightly campers. These sites are slightly small and arranged in a staggered parking pattern where the passenger (door) sides of RVs are facing each other. The only way to arrange your picnic tables is to position them side-by-side with your neighbor, which doesn't allow much privacy. Unfortunately that means that the 2nd RV to each pair of sites usually ends up with no private eating area because the 1st RV gets the optimum table between the 2 rigs. We didn't like this too much. There is also a lot of road noise from Rt 25 and Rt 34. We probably would pick another campground next time even though the facility is clean, convenient and the staff is friendly. We camped at Loveland RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Pikes Peak RV Park, Manitou Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Pikes Peak RV is a small RV park close to downtown Manitou Springs. There is a free shuttle into town that stops right out in front. The sites are very tight. But the staff helps you park and get plugged in. They are all very nice and helpful. Restrooms and showers are clean and large. This is not a park where you sit out and admire the scenery, rather a staging point close to the town and local attractions, such as Garden of the Gods, which is within walking distance. Although most of the sites are shaded by large trees. We would consider staying here again. Not a bad place despite the size. We camped at Pikes Peak RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Cherry Creek is truly an oasis on the south side of Denver. Campsites are very large and spacious - probably the most space of any campground we've been to. They are arranged in circles around large grass areas with lots of large shade trees. All or most of the full hook-up sites have level, nicely paved pads. Each site has a nice large picnic table and clean fire pit. We didn't use the group sites, but there are 3 large campground circles for medium to large groups of RVs and tents - very nice and private if you're with others. The only negative is the traffic noise. The traffic on Rt 225 is fairly loud in the morning and rush hours. High powered boats on the lake can be very loud too. Although neither of these was a deal breaker. We will definitely come back to Cherry Creek. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.
