Fort Boonesborough State Park, Richmond, Kentucky

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

The main attraction is the reconstructed Fort Boonesborough which was not yet open for the season. We were able to take a short trail from the campground to the fort and take exterior pictures. Bathrooms, showers and laundry were adequate if not pristinely clean. The staff were nice and the camp store had a good selection. We could not reach the water connection at our site so be aware the location of connections are not convenient on many sites. It rained while we were there and our campsite turned into a mud pit. Sites closer to the camp store were on higher ground. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Motorhome.

White Acres Campground, Bardstown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The manager was very nice and helpful. We felt safe in the campground. It has a convenient location to Bardstown attractions. It has full hookups and bath house with hot water. However, we didn't expect unheated shower rooms that, while clean, were very rudimentary. They only had 50 amp connections but the manger did lend us an adapter. The area around the campground could use some clean up and maintenance. We camped at White Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

Seven Points Campground COE, Hermitage, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed overnight at Seven Points Campground. It appears to be well managed. Our site was well developed with lots of trees. The campground itself is small with one shower house and one bathroom building. There is a very pretty beach area on the lake. We got a one night reservation for a Sunday night a few days ahead but it was the only site still available. Very popular campground with a nice location close to Nashville. We camped at Seven Points Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Pretty, shaded campground that is very convenient to the Natchez Trace Parkway. There is a Kroger very close. The campground has laundry, showers and full hookups. The sites are gravel and vary in size and quality. We camped at Campground at Barnes Crossing in a Motorhome.

Natchez State Park, Natchez, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very pretty, shaded park conveniently located near the Natchez Trace Parkway. Laundry, shower and hookups available. Avoid site 27 as it is one of the few sites without shade and also gets muddy. This park was fine as a stopover in transit or as a base to visit Natchez but it is not a destination itself. My AT&T cell service was spotty and unreliable in the park. We only stayed one night. The office was not located near the campground and I never saw any park employees. I don't think there were any trails but since the office was not convenient I never got a park map. We camped at Natchez State Park in a Motorhome.

High Falls State Park, Jackson, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed this campground and the trail and view of High Falls. The park staff were excellent. It would be rated higher but the men's shower only had cold water and the women's only had hot water. Not sure which was more uncomfortable. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Fayetteville RV Resort (formerly Fayetteville / Wade KOA), Wade, North Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really well managed RV campground. Conveniently located close to I-95 for overnight stays but far enough away to avoid road noise. It is clean, the staff are friendly and there are a variety of services available on site. This is a good transit stop. We camped at Fayetteville RV Resort (formerly Fayetteville / Wade KOA) in a Motorhome.

F. D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain, Georgia

Overall Rating:

This is an awesome state park in a beautiful part of Georgia. In addition to camping there are cabins to rent. Activities include swimming, horseback riding and hiking on more than twenty miles of trails. Nearby attractions include Roosevelt's Little White House, Callaway Gardens, and a Wild Animal Safari. Our camping site was level with adequate bathrooms. We camped at F. D. Roosevelt State Park in a Motorhome.

Warriors Path State Park, Kingsport, Tennessee

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed an overnight stay in the campground at this state park. Park attendants were efficient and helpful. Our campsite #22 overlooked the Holston River. Be sure to review sites carefully before reserving as they vary in size, quality and scenery. Some sites are not level. We walked the Devil's Backbone trail and enjoyed the views. As the brochure says, it is one of the more challenging trails in the park but the payoff is worth the work. We camped at Warriors Path State Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Chiswell RV Park, Max Meadows, Virginia

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a RV Park that also offers storage. We stayed overnight while in transit and it was perfect for that purpose. The location close to I-81 and I-77 make it an easy stop. It is basically a field with parking spots overlooking a pasture with some frisky cows. However, the staff were nice and the facilities were clean and well maintained. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Natural Tunnel State Park, Duffield, Virginia

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This state park has a lot of cool things to see and do. We walked from our campsite at Lover's Leap loop via the Gorge Ridge trail to Lover's Leap. This is a cool view of the Natural Tunnel and the site where the Cherokee maiden and a Shawnee brave jumped to their death according to signs at the site. From there, we continued down the Lover's Leap Trail down to the visitor center and chair lift area. The chair life and visitor center were both closed until April which meant the only way down to the tunnel was the Tunnel Trail. This trail is only 0.27 miles long and has many stairs and switchbacks making it doable for most. The Natural Tunnel and Stock Creek running along the side are truly worth the walk down and even worth the walk back up. We took the Gorge Ridge Trail back up from the visitor center parking lot which was easier and shorter than the route we took on the way down. Bath, shower and laundry facilities were clean and new. Our campsite was level and well maintained. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

We stopped here as part of our tour of the Wilderness Road. Starting at Warriors Path State Park in Kingsport, TN you can pick up the trail to Cumberland Gap and then on to Fort Boonesborough. This is a natural and worthwhile stop along the route.

Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground, Ewing, Virginia

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We loved visiting this national site. The rangers at the Visitor Center were very nice and helpful. We enjoyed the film in the center and the history displays. We spent two nights in the campground which was about 25% full in late March. There was only one bathroom functioning at that time but it was clean. The shower nozzles needed repair as they were leaking but the water was warm. Even with these minor flaws, the campground was so peaceful and relaxing. We took a seven mile round trip hike from the campground down the road to catch the Boone Trail to the Wilderness Trail to the Cumberland Gap and then up to Tri-State Peak. Note that several of the attractions like Gap Cave and Hensley Settlement tours were not open for the season while we were there. It still looked like winter as the trees had no leaves. But we really enjoyed essentially having the trails to ourselves. What a treat! Note that there is no water at campsites so come with your fresh water tank full or fill up at the available area when you arrive. We camped at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park / Wilderness Road Campground in a Motorhome.

Levi Jackson State Park, London, Kentucky

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We visited this state park before most of its attractions were open for the season, which left just a couple of hiking trails for entertainment. Our campsite originally reserved was not available on arrival due to water problems. No worries, they moved us to another site and were very kind. Unfortunately, the second site had electrical problems so we moved to a third site. Everyone was very helpful but it still took three sites before we could settle in. The bathrooms are very nice and clean. The laundry was also nice. This park appears to be popular with the locals and offers a lot to the community in season. There were lots of people enjoying the basketball court which is not separated from the campsites. Our review may be an anomaly based on the timing and circumstances of our visit. We camped at Levi Jackson State Park in a Motorhome.
